Need to lose 2 stone - addicted to sugar

Thecatgotmytongue · 29/05/2016 22:57

I need to lose 2 stone and I'm definitely addicted to sugar, I eat lots of chocolate and sweets.

I've zero willpower, but really want to lose weight. I've followed a low carb diet before, but don't know if I can manage now. My weakness is comfort eating and the last year has been extremely tough.

Anyone like to join me for motivation? Maybe we can exchange recipes, ideas? Weigh in together?

I'm 12 stone 3 and would like to get down to 10 stone 7 or less. I'm 5'7 and 51 years, so age is not on my side!

TheCAt.
Thats how I found out about the sort of diet I told you about.
I stopped smoking. While I was trying and mostly not smoking but having some slips, I found after having a cigarette, about twenty minutes later, I'd long for chocolate.

I realised there is a link between smoking and levels of sugar in the body in some way. I think all cravings can be linked.

So I looked up 'no craving' supplements, and no craving diet.

I have not smoked for a long time and I do not eat chocolate all the time - just a very little very dark.

If you have the frequent small meals with protein, fruit, vegetables etc the sugar longing will die down. Your body will rebalance itself.

That sounds interesting. Sweets (not chocolate) alcohol and fizzy drinks are my downfall. I've also got a problem with bombay mix at the moment which I can't stop shovelling in.

Overall I think my diet is fairly healthy but maybe too many carbs and big portions. I drink vodka with coke which I know is really bad, I'm also partial to the odd gin and tonic. I realise that alcohol is not good for losing weight.

I'm so pleased to be free of cigarettes though - I was properly addicted. I guess I need meal plans.

Not a good weekend here either, and started today with a double decker as my cornflakes and almonds didn't keep me full up. Sad. Got a couple of busy weeks ahead so going to have to get a grip and be a bit more disciplined and organised

I need a plan of what to eat, all healthy options, to lose weight. I can't think on my feet at the moment, too busy and stressed.

I shopped last night but was tired, hungry, in pain, and had H following me round moaning at my lack of organisation.... It's a wonder I didn't just buy chocolate biscuits!

Not ideal!

I did ok most of yesterday actually after the doughnut breakfast! I had a slice of bread and butter fur lunch, then roast chicken, new potatoes and plenty of veg for dinner. I did share a pack of crisps later and had a piece of cake from the local bakers, lemon drizzle.

Today I had bread and butter fur for breakfast, a ham sandwich and singe raspberries for lunch, dinner will be left over chicken with potato wedges and veg.

Losing weight is so hard as you e older i think. I restored my weight lose plan again on Sunday and am low carbing (but not no carbing). I find more protein keep me fuller longer.

A sample day for me is:

Breakfast: One slice of toast with some protein or filling topping- poached egg, peanut butter, avocado, few slices of cheese.

Lunch: Big salad with few things on - prawns, chicken, feta, avocado, pine nuts, halloumi cheese etc.

Dinner: meat or fish cooked simply with loads veg and a few potatoes. Last night i did cauliflower cheese with mushroom, onion and bacon then baked in the oven.

Snacks: hummus/dip or fruit or berries and natural yogurt

No wine!

So far i seem to be doing well and don’t get too hungry. I began a while back at 86kg and am now 82.2kg at 5’6” and age 53. Aiming for 76kg to start with. I am being boosted by being recently diagnosed with osteoarthritis and want to try to relieve the pressure on my knees and hips.

bluesky that sounds nice. Well done on your weight loss.

I eat salad every day, but struggle with vegetables. I don't really cook much, prefer to roast a chicken that will then last three days.

Well, it's been a bad few weeks - but I have been moving house. I need to get my act together now though ... I've been existing on cake and chocolate, stuff I could grab quickly in passing Blush

I hate my figure, my tummy is bulging and I can't suck it in anymore! Does anyone do exercises to get rid of excess tummy?

Bluesky

In my opinion, from a lot I have read, your approach is just right, and should also help against cravings for sugar. It's the frequency of eating something, the protein and the fresh fruit & vegetables that do the trick.

A lot of other stuff is cheating the body and the body and brain knows it and just sends out more and more craving signals..

Hi Cat,

I lost the plot for a while there. Had some scary news medically and turned to sugar in a big way. I'm on some new meds that made me totally Space out (at work) on the first day but seem to be settling down now.

So, I'm almost back on my feet with the meds, so need to start fresh with food. Time to get back on the low carb horse.

Sorry to hear that Sad

I've been moving house and very stressed, my eating has been rubbish.

I'm finding it very difficult to get back on track.

I'm starting afresh today - can't carry on like this. Hating the double chin, the fact all my clothes are right, the wobbly flesh ... BlushSad

I've had 3 eggs scrambled with a couple of cherry tomatoes, a tiny bit of cheese and some spicy relish for breakfast/brunch.

I can't give up my milky coffee though! I'll try and cut it down to one.

I can't allow myself anything sweet at all, it just escalates and I can't stop.

I've ordered some online shopping for tomorrow with lots of low carb choices.

I haven't been too bad today. But I did have a little bar of chocolate, and a few sweets, oh and some ice cream.... Hmmm it seemed better til I added it all up! Oops

I weighed myself this morning .. I weigh 12 st 5, more than I thought Blush

I missed breakfast because I had to rush to a doctor's appointment, but I've just had a lovely steak with salad for lunch.

Planning chicken and more salad for dinner.

In the end I had roast belly pork with salad for dinner, then later a snack of 7 cherry tomatoes.

Pretty pleased with that. I had nothing sweet apart from a few raspberries. No bread, pasta, rice or potatoes. If I can keep going, I'll be really pleased .. I usual lose the motivation about day three, when I realise I'm not slim yet Blush

That's not good Sad Next time could you grab something quick?

I had a good low carb day: bacon and egg for breakfast, chicken salad for lunch and again for dinner followed by a few strawberries and raspberries. No snacks, no sugar! Feeling happy about that Smile

Yesterday was dd's birthday party. I spent all my evenings last week after work baking so you can imagine what my calorie intake was like (and it was all sugar!)

I have a house full of left over buns/cake which I intend to sample today. Then I will be good again from tomorrow. Honest!

I came to work with the best intentions but no breakfast (DD had a morning meltdown because I dared to put sun cream on her). So I settled in with small handful of mixed nuts only to be alerted to the biggest tub of jelly beans that I have ever seen in my life (must be several kgs) that one of the lads won on holiday! (He actually won 2 but he can't eat that many jellybeans (he is an amateur, but a skinny one!) we've worked out its 4kcal per bean but I've lost count how many I've scoffed. Had a plain turkey sandwich on brown bread to try and redress the balance. Just need some fruit and veg as am guessing apple jelly beans don't count towards my 5 a day!
