Need to lose 2 stone - addicted to sugar

Thecatgotmytongue · 29/05/2016 22:57

I need to lose 2 stone and I'm definitely addicted to sugar, I eat lots of chocolate and sweets.

I've zero willpower, but really want to lose weight. I've followed a low carb diet before, but don't know if I can manage now. My weakness is comfort eating and the last year has been extremely tough.

Anyone like to join me for motivation? Maybe we can exchange recipes, ideas? Weigh in together?

I'm 12 stone 3 and would like to get down to 10 stone 7 or less. I'm 5'7 and 51 years, so age is not on my side!

The protein powder cannot replace meals. It can just a be a way of adding protein so you are having more overall in the day. For example if you don't have milk with porridge you could add some to that and some seeds and berries. You need to get your main protein from the actual food.

Having 3 actual meals and two or more small snacks with a balance of protein, vegetables, some whole grains is what will keep you feeling full and not hungry for sugary food. If you do not have these it is natural to grab for sugar and fat.

That is a big help if you like white fish, salmon and some eggs too. That will make your choice much bigger.

KindDogsTail · 16/06/2016 00:56

Ian Marber says try to have just one cup a day because it gives a kind of shot of cortisol to the body that can be a bit like sugar - you feel well a first but them maybe hungry quite soon after.

I agree Cappucino is better than latte. TheCat does not have milk though or soy. Pret do very good protein snacks too, including high protein sandwiches, and whole fruit.

Thecatgotmytongue · 16/06/2016 01:22

Unfortunately if I go out I do have milk Blush I can't resist cappuccino.

Was naughty again yesterday as hang overs are getting evil as I get older, but back with it today

I weighed myself (I can only think in kgs I'm afraid) and was 85.6kgs Blush

stressedandalone · 16/06/2016 09:34

Oops posted too soon! Cat, I hope you are doing ok today.

stressedandalone · 16/06/2016 09:39

I really like some of the M&S fuller for longer meals but every time I get hooked on one they discontinue it Sad but I would definitely recommend them. I prefer the ready to eat ones than the ready meals.

StickTheDMWhereTheSunDontShine · 16/06/2016 09:48

Fuller longer is balanced for you, now. Had a nice spicy beef noodle dish, last week. Expensive but satisfying.

Steering clear of count on us, though. Low protein stodge.

StickTheDMWhereTheSunDontShine · 16/06/2016 09:52

I'm the same as you with milk, thecat

Have to be careful with lactose that I don't go beyond my capacity to tolerate it which means I avoid it at home so I usually have more choice when I eat out.

I think they are too.

The principles in those recipes are worth copying at home. They are expensive to buy ready done.

stressedandalone · 16/06/2016 19:38

2 choccy bars today Sad the ADs are making me feel rough. Hope your willpower is intact cat

KindDogsTail · 16/06/2016 20:19

Stress
I am sorry you are feeling rough today.

Thecatgotmytongue · 17/06/2016 00:12

Sorry to hear that stressed Sad

I'm doing ok actually. I got some rye and spelt bread, it's very heavy and filling, lovely. I had a slice with cheese for breakfast and the same for lunch. For dinner I had half a mozzarella pizza with a big salad. My snacks were scrambled egg and mixed nuts Halo I've had one milky coffee (lactose free) and lots of black coffee. I walked for half an hour to the charity shop and back.

I am going to have an orange club biscuit with my bedtime coffee, but that's the first sugar all day. Feeling quite pleased with myself.

What a brilliant start, TheCat.

Do you think you could have a little protein (a few nuts) with your bedtime coffee as well as the penguin biscuit? To help stop a chain reaction of a sugar circle. They would probably taste nice together as well.

Thecatgotmytongue · 17/06/2016 02:09

Thanks Smile Yes I'll have a few nuts next time.

How's it going cat? I'm still well and truly off the wagon. DD refused to leave the house (having one of her bad days) and I haven't been to the supermarket in ages so lunch involved bagels and marmalade (was hoping for cream cheese but it was mouldy) and went downhill from there... Hope you are doing better. Planning is key I think.

notagiraffe · 18/06/2016 14:31

Cat I stopped eating refined wheat carbs and sugar a few days ago. (Also have a stack of weight to lose and zero motivation but the reason for stopping was tiredness.) I definitely feel a little bit more energetic.

Thecatgotmytongue · 18/06/2016 14:44

I came to confess Blush

Yesterday I was out all afternoon. I ate a huge chicken baguette and drank two glasses of white wine spritzer! Then at bedtime I got the sugar cravings and had three !!! orange club biscuits Shock

Today I've had two slices of rye bread with butter and cheese, but also a pack of crisps.

I usually put on weight if I restrict what to eat Blush but anything moderate we should enjoy food Smile

When I noticed I was eating too much sweets, I swapped sugary food with honey, mango, Apple which helped me stay away from sweets and chocolate then eventually "lost interest" or forgot about these food existed, and I ate one sweet and made me feel sick..

Also skin condition improved and flat belly, lots of benefits by cutting down the sugar Grin

I would say reduce gradually rather than stop eating sweets completely, that worked for me Smile

KindDogsTail · 18/06/2016 15:21

The Cat
Could you eat some vegetables? And fruit for sweetness?

notagiraffe · 18/06/2016 17:22

But chicken is good for you. And at least you had soda with the wine to dilute it. Not so bad if you look at it like that... Smile

KindDogsTail · 18/06/2016 20:06

Brilliant over all!

StickTheDMWhereTheSunDontShine · 18/06/2016 22:29

If the orange clubs are to tempting, then maybe you need to decided WIGIG.

Wine is still my weakness. I had to walk past my favouite chippy twice, just before dinner time, tonight, when I was already ravenous after lots of walking. I resisted!

I've learnt not to have a whole bloody sarnie with my wine, mind. The late evening snacking has been one of my biggest problems.

Thecatgotmytongue · 18/06/2016 22:34

Normally I don't buy orange clubs for that very reason, but my bf brought them round Confused

I've discovered I have many triggers .. Boredom, stress, unhappiness, being with company in the evening ..

Today has been more or less a write off, I think I need to get my house move over and done with, then I can concentrate on cooking healthy food again.

Today I had rye bread for breakfast, a ready meal lasagne for lunch (I'm emptying the freezer ready for moving it Tuesday) and rice and salad for dinner plus half a big pack of Doritos!

Yep that's me - I crave sugar and need to lose 2 some to be reasonably happy with my body. Slightly younger but not by much so we're very similar. I'll join up with you. I finally stopped smoking a year ago so sugar has been a substitute which needs addressing . Smile

Thecatgotmytongue · 19/06/2016 00:33

Hi shggg245, I stopped smoking ten years ago, before then I barely ate sweets or chocolate!

When do you eat most sugary stuff? What's your diet like in general?
