Weight loss chat

A space to talk openly about weight loss journeys and challenges. Mumsnet hasn't checked the qualifications of anyone posting here. You may wish to speak to a medical professional before starting any diet.

Blatantly nosey - but also a little bit of an amateur survey

  1. How tall are you?
  2. How much do you weigh?
  3. How much would you like to weigh?
  4. When was the last time you steadily maintained that weight for, say, 5 years?

As its all anonoymous on here, feel free to join in without judgement. I'll kick off if I must

  1. 5 ft 3"
  2. 11 stone 6lb
  3. 9 stone 6lb (not exactly sylph-like for one so short)
  4. 1981 - 1991 I weighed 9 stone or less.

I'm kidding myself, aren't I?

Thank you Dinny. I am overweight but not obese, as suspected really.

weighs 11st6
and would like to weigh 9st13

(not that I'm having a really dull day at work, or anything...)

expatinscotland · 08/01/2007 16:23

Go to yoga!

You'll feel SOOOO much better.

Judy1234 · 08/01/2007 18:24

Couldn't as my son was going out although in the end he's in and my daughter's back too but I didn't know that was going to happen. May be tomorrow then.

fortyplus · 08/01/2007 19:11

Xenia - at the risk of sounding like I'm stalking you... have you ever read 'The Sugar Addict's Diet'? I borrowed it from the library - got to about page 3 and thought 'This is ME!'
Funny, really, because I always think of red wine as my diet downfall - not sugar.
My weight has fluctuated to extremes over the years - 5'10" min 9stone 12, max 15 stone. The times it has gone haywire have always been when I'm stressed - the max being just after my Dad died - he'd been in hospital following a stroke & my Mum became very hard to cope with - she was really going to pieces. I think it's because I'm usually very laid back; I just don't know how to 'do' stressed so I can't cope with it.

Judy1234 · 08/01/2007 19:12

Yes, it describes how I am too. A good book.

fortyplus · 08/01/2007 19:22

So this year I'm keeping the fruit bowl well stocked, eating 'no added sugar' muesli for breakfast, cutting down on the wine, exercising more and I'm going to lose 2 stone. No one else in my family is overweight.

twoisenoughmum · 08/01/2007 22:03

Brilliant, Mrs Badger. How interesting. Is 9st 13lb a realistic weight for someone 5'6"? It sounds like it is when you consider Victoria Beckham is 5'6" (I think) and weighs under 8 stone.

Hoping for a happy and fulfilled 2007 for everyone, whatever weight you are ...

xx

5' 9"
somewhere between 11 and 12 stone

wigwam, dont listen to that 9 stone rubbish! I have never been under 10 stone in my adult life - when I look really thin, I am still 10st7. Anywhere under 12 stone will be fine.

MrsBadger · 09/01/2007 08:28

twoisenough, 5'6" and 9st13 means a BMI of 22.5, slap in the middle of the 'healthy' zone, so I guess it is realistic.

fortyplus · 09/01/2007 09:46

I'm sure it's partly down to whether you're fit with muscle tone or just soft and flabby. For a start muscle weighs more than fat, so you'd be the same weight but smaller.
Even when I was 15 stone and feeling gross, people would say things like 'But you're not fat, are you?' I think it's because I've never slumped and waddled like a fat person.
So, ladies - if you're a bit overweight - try to feel positive about yourself - walk tall, don't turn your feet out, and start exercising, because even if you don't lose an ounce you'll look and feel better.

roseylea · 09/01/2007 10:00

Just realised - I am 5ft 6, and I weigh 9 st 13lbs!

I am Miss Average!

Wuxiapian · 13/01/2007 11:17

Now, I wish I was 5'8! Wishful thinking there. I'm actually 5'5. Tut!

MuckyAnthea · 19/01/2007 09:50
  1. 5 foot 7
  2. 72 kilos [just over 11 stone?, sorry scales only in kilos]
  3. 9.5 - 10 stone
  4. was around 9 stone until 2000, when my 'friend' advised me to join weightwatchers with her. So off I went, became consumed with counting points all the time, and subsequently ended up putting on 4 stone over the space of 6 years. Last year I decided enough was enough, and I bought 'you are what you eat' and re-educated myself. Now I eat healthily and exercise, and am trying to lose the last bit of excess weight so I can get back to the old me.
