Weight loss chat

A space to talk openly about weight loss journeys and challenges. Mumsnet hasn't checked the qualifications of anyone posting here. You may wish to speak to a medical professional before starting any diet.

Blatantly nosey - but also a little bit of an amateur survey

  1. How tall are you?
  2. How much do you weigh?
  3. How much would you like to weigh?
  4. When was the last time you steadily maintained that weight for, say, 5 years?

As its all anonoymous on here, feel free to join in without judgement. I'll kick off if I must

  1. 5 ft 3"
  2. 11 stone 6lb
  3. 9 stone 6lb (not exactly sylph-like for one so short)
  4. 1981 - 1991 I weighed 9 stone or less.

I'm kidding myself, aren't I?

5'6"
11st 4
10st would do (9 1/2 would be amazing - anything less than 9 and I look seriously ill).
I weighed around 9st from 18 to 33. Then I had 3 DCs in 3 years and the extra weight stayed.

Fascinating - keep 'em coming.

You said it, Spidermama (about the dissatisfaction thing).

What are we supposed to make of it all?

  1. 5'0"
  2. 8 stone exactly
  3. 8 stone exactly (honestly)
  4. Have always weighed between 7-7.5 stone and have always wanted to be 8 stone. Just need to tone up post baby tum and bum then I'll be happy
pooka · 07/01/2007 22:13

Oh I'm under no illusions that I will ever be as thin as I was pre-children. Wouldn't want to be either as looking back I was gaunt (should add that this was when supposedly at my most healthy).
But I would like to lose some of my wobble, mostly my thighs.
I have never had a very healthy opinion of my size - was bulimic in my mid-teens for a while. Of course now I look back and realise how pointless and shallow it was.
Have to say that having had the children (and having been at my thinnest through exercise rather than binge/purge) I now realise that there are more important things in life. If anything it was having the children that corrected my view of myself. Yes, I would like to be slimmer, but more toned than anything.

nikkie · 07/01/2007 22:19

I am 5ft
Never weigh myself so no idea but have been similar for about 5 years now since I had dd2

nikkie · 07/01/2007 22:20

Want to lose some weight -I work in dress sizes .
I am big 12-14 atm want to be big10-12

twoisenoughmum · 07/01/2007 22:23

Pooka - glad to hear you have a better understanding of yourself. That is such an inspirational story.

Oh God, if I could only go back and tell myself at 14 that I was not fat at 8/12 stone, I really really would. That's when I first went on a diet - and I've never weighed that little since!

What a mess.

Oh I'd love to go back and give my 16 year old self a good talking to about all manner of things.
I'd be so sad if dd was as painfully lacking in self-confidence and vim. Saying that, I suppose we all learn from our mistakes with age.

  1. How tall are you? 5' 6"
  2. How much do you weigh? 9 stone 3
  3. How much would you like to weigh? 9 stone or just under
  4. When was the last time you steadily maintained that weight for, say, 5 years? Have pretty much been this weight since having ds1 nearly 6 years ago (except for 2 pregnancies in between!)
Pablothelittleredfox · 07/01/2007 22:39

Actually, I'm not bothered about being lighter. I look OK, just need to tone up and yes, probably lose a few pounds of my tum but that's it.

expatinscotland · 07/01/2007 22:42
  1. 5ft., 4in.
  2. I don't know. Size 10 on bottom and size 12-14 on top.
  3. I haven't weighed myself in years.
  4. I've never had a weight issue. It never varies more than 5lbs. excepting pregnancy and post-partum.
themoon66 · 07/01/2007 22:57

Spidermama.... perhaps so many respondants are unhappy because this thread has been posted on under Weigh Loss Subject heading?

Perhaps only those looking to lose weight would think to click on this heading?

Only a thought. I hate to think there are that many unhappy women out there.

Judy1234 · 07/01/2007 23:13

"Clearly we're supposed to be bigger as we get older and have children as most of us seem to get bigger. "

No, I think a huge proportion of the nation are getting far too fat and the Govermnent and many others are trying to do something about it. It's a national crisis. People eat too much and of the wrong foods.

expatinscotland · 08/01/2007 09:04

Getting older and having children doesn't automatically = obese.

My 39-year-old first cousin's obesity killed her. That plus our strong family history of heart disease - including her own father's death from it - was enough to cause her to have a massive heart attack.

She left behind a 2-year-old daughter.

As a consequence, I take exercise, portion and weight control very seriously.

  1. 5ft 4
  2. 9st 12
  3. Am happy with this weight
  4. Apart from 2 pregnancies, I have maintained this weight (give or take a pound or 2) for the past 15 years.
PersonalClown · 08/01/2007 09:12
  1. 6ft
  2. About 12 stone (haven't weighed myself in a while)
  3. Between 10 and 11 stone would do me fine.
  4. Now. I don't seem to fluctuate with my weight. I put it on having ds and most of it stayed. I'm a size 12 so don't really care. Hoping to join a local gym again now that I've moved and ds is now in school so I can tone up a bit.
prettymum · 08/01/2007 09:15

  1. 5 ft 8"

  3. 10 stone 7lb
  4. Pre-children (oldest is now 10). I lost 3 stone going to WW in about 1989, and kept it off until pg in 1996, and then BOY did it pile on. Lost it, lost more after mc, put on v. little with second pg until stuck in hospital from 31 wks. Then it all piled on again. I was 13 stone 7lb at my heaviest last year (not pg, just lots of comfort eating), and have just joined WW again to get the next 2 stone off (ha ha ha ha ha)
