Has anyone gained weight when doing 30 day shred

This is the first time I've done it since reaching my goal weight. I've always lost when doing it before but I suspect that's largely down to me still losing more fat than muscle gain.

However this time I'm on day 8 and have gained 3lbs in that time. I've been following my usual eating habits and haven't gained that much weight that quickly in years, even when pregnant!!

No idea what's going on. Trying to tell myself it's muscle as I don't feel j look like I've gained and my clothes are all fine but I have gained almost an inch on my hips which I suspect is my bum (it's usually rather flat but it's becoming more shapely due to the workouts).

Feeling a bit meh though as I have a big night out tomorrow and now don't feel as good as I wanted to.

Yes, this happened to me. After doing lots of research (googling!), the most plausible explanation seems to be that when you do more exercise than usual, your muscles retain extra water to help repair the tiny tears in the muscle fibres (part of the normal process of building up strength) So, it's not the weight of extra muscle, but is not fat either.

Not much help when you want to see the scales shifting downwards, but I did feel a little reassured that I wasn't gaining permanent weight.

(Incidentally, I gave up on about day 13 as I just couldn't do stage 2 of the shred!)

Thank you.
I'm not doing it as advised really as I get bored with the same level every day.

I'm doing five days on one day off and day 1 im doing level one, day two a kettle bell workout, day three level 2, day four kettle bell then day five level 3. Keeps it more interesting and keeps my muscles guessing more.
I've definitely noticed a difference in my arms and bum but not a lot on my tummy yet.
Going to drink a lot of water today and see if that helps.

Thanks.

Erm, yes. When I say I gave up on day 13, I actually mean it was about day 30 but only the 13th time I'd done the workout!

And I didn't do any other workouts in between - so hats off to you, and I'm sure you will notice a difference soon Smile

ah...thank you for this!

I am doing Beginner Shred and losing weight at about half a pound a week. I look much better after a loss of about 5lb but I have been really disheartened by the rate.

I guess this might be why. I was working out 3 days on, 1 day off but think I will change up now. TBH it's more important to me that the scales go down - I have a lot to lose - so perhaps I will think about a different workout and go back to Shred later on.

I've always plataued or maintained with shred but lost inches, which I prefer.
