Raspberry Ketone etc

I keep seeing these ads on FB claiming that celebrities (and naming them) are losing massive amounts of weight by taking Raspberry Ketone and some cleansing pill or other, and Garcinia etc and showing pictures of them going from fat and flabby to slim and toned. The story is usually that the "secret" of their weight loss is now out, and all down to one of these pills, one taken at night and one in the morning. There is always a special offer of the pill and cleanser for around a fiver.

I'm sure it's bullshit, but I can't see how they can name people (Dawn French) and I think Kate Middleton recently, although they don't show pictures of them. I know Dawn French lost a lot of weight when she split with Lenny Henry (but looks like she's put some of it back on) whereas Lenny has halved in size.

Then there is this Clean 9 thing, and aloe vera gel and bees honey and garcinia someone is trying to sell me at around £100 for the full package. Assume that works because you eat next to nothing for about a week and then very low calorie meals.

I still think my son is right "Eat less, move more" but am curious about these so-called magic potions.

I would avoid at all costs.

The celebrities who's pictures they use have most likely never used those pills, if they have lost weight it's probably down to diet and a very good PT.

I also hate all these "detox teas" that certain celebs advertise on their Instagram and Twitter. It's utter crap and they're paid to advertise it to people who are silly enough to believe they'll make a long term or any difference

The only way to lose weight is to consume fewer calories than you expend. The celebs you see endorsing a product may well have used it, but you can bet your bottom dollar that they upped their exercise and/or reduced their calorie intake at the same time.

They are pure snake oil.
The slebs do not comment because they know that to really lose weight involves

  • hard work
  • changing your whole approach to food.

Huge amounts of stress often help (Henry / French)
and Norovirus can have amazing effects (a friend of mine)

but there is no pill that will do the trick
because of the way the metabolism and the neural feedback systems work
