Started Whole 30 yesterday - anyone want to join me?

I saw someone mentioned it on a thread recently, and it is basically clean eating for 30 days. I have quite a lot of weight to lose, but also have asthma which I think could be improved if I reduced the inflammation in my body.

Anyone else doing it?

Hello, can I join you? :) I'm on day 11. I need to buy more veg...the past few days I've mainly been eating chicken, sweet potatoes, nuts, and grapes because that's what I have, but I need some green in there!

I'm going to give making my own mayonnaise a go this weekend.

BerylStreep · 02/10/2015 09:03

Hi CheerfulYank, welcome!

How are you finding it so far? I am waking earlier (also struggling to stay up beyond 10pm!), bags more energy, and my asthma has improved massively. Not to mention my need to keep putting more holes in my belt!

What are you planning for dinner tonight?

How are you getting on Katnipp & WoodenSpoon?

Going down a belt notch is fab! I've already gone down one due to less bloat probably rather than actual weight loss.
I am starting to feel much better now too. I've been taking a multi vit as well and feel like I have more energy.
I've been having porridge for breakfast. Today I've got soup for lunch and a beef casserole for dinner. Some fruit for snacks.

Katnipp · 02/10/2015 16:44

Been ok so far. Couple of days with lots of salads - making most of the sunshine.

Planning to do a red curry tonight. Got a spice mix and will use coconut oil to make paste and then coconut milk. Prawns and loads of stir fry veg. DH will need to sit otherside of the room while he scoffs his rice!

Been feeling good and slept well (baby's teething stopped which also helped).

Quite fancy trying making mayo too. Be nice to have a different salad dressing!

BerylStreep · 05/10/2015 10:30

How is everyone?

Today is the last day of week three for me! I still feel great.

Katnipp how was your red curry? It sounds lovely.

WoodenSpoon & CheerfulYank how are you keeping?

Making pork meatballs tonight which I am serving with sweet potato mash and sugar snap peas. Lunch is going to be spiced cauliflower soup. Weather is awful here today and I need warm food.

My asthma has improved massively. I've just done a peak flow test, and my previous personal best was 300. It was 350 this morning, so I am delighted.

Katnipp that curry sounds lovely. Well done Beryl. That's a great achievement and result re asthma.

I'm still sticking to unprocessed food but alas I lapsed today. I had a really hectic morning and didn't have time for breakfast.
I had to be out most of the day so succumbed to biscuits this morning. They tasted awful to me but were purely functional.
Im going to make a bean stew for dinner.

Katnipp · 05/10/2015 22:45

Day 15 for me so now half way! Curry was lovely - had leftovers for lunch today.

I've found it strange what I'm missing. My morning cappacino - still getting daily caffeine hit from black coffee (just the one) but it's not the same. And cheese, which I love but don't eat that often.

Today was the first time I've craved sweet things. Didn't give in so am very pleased.

Trying to avoid scales but am definitely losing inches. Old pair of jeans do up! Hopefully be wearable by the end.

Shepherds pie with sweet potato mash tomorrow and making chicken soup with left overs from Sunday roast. Agree the weather change means warm and comforting food is needed. Salads just don't work so well in the winter.

BerylStreep · 10/10/2015 09:38

I'm on day 25 today, only 5 days to go until I see the scales! I'm looking forward to a glass or two of wine on Thursday, but I think I will probably go straight back on to another 30, as I feel so good.

Katnipp you must be on day 25 too? How are the jeans feeling?

CheerfulYank how are you getting on?

WoodenSpoon I hope you managed to put the biscuits behind you and are back on track.

I need to plan some meals for the weekend. I hadn't really got my act together last night and ended up eating an orange and having a handful of almonds. I've got half a roast chicken in the fridge, but can't think what to do with it.

Day 20 here. Had hard week with cravings but managed to resist. Despite there being quite a lot of temptation in the house. Drinks out last night. Ate before I went - so no snacking and stuck to one g&t. So all in all good going. Quite a few people commented on how well I was looking which was great.

Clothes all feeling looser - and tried on old pair of jeans. They do up but still a little more odd needed until they fit.

Need to think of some new foods. Getting bit fed up repeating some of the meals a lot.

Think I'll stay on this for an extra 5-7 days then have a week off before deciding next plan. May be more a 5-2 approach so I can have odd meal out or few drinks. Definitely can't be this strict long term!

BerylStreep · 15/10/2015 10:36

Katnipp you are doing really well - keep it up! Almost there.

So yesterday was day 30 for me! I jumped on the scales this morning, and I have lost 8kg - almost 18 pounds!! I still have quite a lot to go though - I am currently 92.4kg and would love to get to around 80kg although I know it takes time.

To say I am delighted is an understatement. I have been looking forward for weeks to having a glass of wine tonight, but actually now that I have done all 30 days, I don't think I want it tonight. Before this, I drank far far too much white wine. My asthma has improved massively, I have so much energy - I feel great. I'm going to continue eating like this for the longterm as it has so many health benefits.

I tried the pulled pork recipe which I can really recommend, although the recipe calls for 1 1/2 tbs of salt, which is far too much. I used 1 tbs which was still too salty so if I was making it again I would only use 1/2 tbs and would also use slightly more water than the recipe calls for. Pork shoulder is ridiculously cheap - the joint I bought was £3.80 and did us for 3 nights.

I also bought a spiraliser from Lakeland - we had pulled pork shoulder on steamed courgette noodles last night.

WoodenSpoon CheerfulYank how are you getting on? Keep going!

Beryl that is fantastic. Well done! Shows that changing what you want is working if you've turned down the glass of wine.

Think I'm about 14 lb off so far and noticed difference at gym last night. Could just push myself that bit further. Need to lose another 2 st to get 1/2 st into health weight Bmi and give myself some room for fluctuation.

Popped in food info into mfp and got a shock. Some days were under 900 cals. Seems too little so have been making effort to have some small snacks each day including nuts to ensure I get enough.

Am loving how well I feel. Hope to keep it up.

Hello all, I thought I would revive this thread to report that I have lost over 5kg since my last post in October!

I've been sticking with the Whole 30, although too much wine is creeping in. Even so, I have lost over 13kg since I started in September. I was actually even heavier before I started officially, so I think I have lost 15kg in total.

For anyone who really wants to lose weight and feels they have tried everything, I would really recommend looking at the Whole 30. Not only have I lost weight, I feel great too.

My DH has joined me, and is noticeably thinner, and nowhere near as stressed or cranky.

Merry (choc free!) Christmas!

Hi Beryl. Well done. Did you lose all your weight using the Whole 30 or did you move on to paleo?

BerylStreep · 27/12/2015 18:39

After I did the Whole 30 I pretty much stayed doing the same thing. I introduced some alcohol, and also made banana & blueberry muffins for occasional snacks - which whilst Whole 30 compliant, probably aren't strictly in the spirit of it.

I'm going to start a new Whole 30 after New Year - I can feel Christmas dinner taking its toll!
