Dieting but not super excessively every second day, anybody tried it? (1000 cals)

I'm about ten pounds overweight and for the last two years I've been trying to lose the same 10 lbs. I lose five and then they creep back on.

I have tried the 5:2 and in theory I like the idea, and the science but I find it really really hard.

So, this is what I've been doing for the last week and I think, so far, it's easy. But will it work??? In a normal day I probably eat about 1750 approx, so it's still a deficit of about 12,000 cals or 3 pounds in one month.

I'm not in a hurry. It is two years ago that I realised / accepted I'd gone up a dress size so I have patience. I want something that's going to work in the long term.

Anybody else tried this?

Sharing not Sharks - damn pints of wine....

MagalyMaman · 28/08/2015 09:29

It's probably down to the really depressing reality that your TDEE is much lower than women are lead to believe, by labels. We're always told that 1800 is normal for a woman, but I'm certain mine is way less. I think I only need about 1570 and that'd be with a bit of gentle activity. I'm in my forties and only 5'1" though.

I have to laugh at your description there, not dangerous except for people who annoy you !!

Very inspiring MagalyMaman! I've got just under a stone to lose and didn't get on with 5:2 either. I found I was totally lethargic on the fast days, pardicularly in the afternoons, and I just didn't have the energy to race around after my toddler DS. My TDEE is 1583 according to that calculator (set to sedentary but I'd say I was a little more active than that). Feeling very inspired and will start tomorrow Smile

MagalyMaman · 30/08/2015 20:29

If you've done the 5:2 then it'll be a breeze! I had a normal day today but skipped wine at lunch at my parents house. Small supper. Tiny. Tomorrow a 1000c day but as I have to go to the dentist at 10.30, that's the morning blocked off anyway! It'll be fine. Then Wednesday and Friday. Last Friday I was due to do 1000c but I had an interview and a date so I had two normal days in a row and then just took it up on Saturday. I allow that. I'm nice to myself Grin

Imagine going on a date when you're on a 500 day! No second date.

Scarydinosaurs · 30/08/2015 20:57

I'm doing the t25 at the moment and that's a brilliant reintroduction to exercise. Little and often with only 25 minutes each day. I've noticed a huge difference and have lost lots with adjustments to my diet too.

Another 1000c day today. I'm looking forward Confused sort of Grin to the 11th september because by then I'll have been doing it for a month and I really want to see what the results are after a whole month. After initially losing a surprising amount of weight quite quickly, it's stalled again. I'd like to lose another five pounds.

Fuckitfay that chick pea and spinach curry sounts good. I must look in to the online boot camp.

I did it again on Friday so now I'm free for the weekend. Not to go mad, just to not count calories, and, I can have the big treat of milk in tea! growing used to green tea and peppermint tea.

But... just updating. I'm 9'2lbs and I can pull on a pair of waist 28 levis jeans that I bought when I was fighting fit.

The last time I was 9 stone two I fitted in to smaller clothes though as I was doing jillian michaels every day! Now that I know that this is working for me I might try {bolsters up energy} and do jillian michaels twice a week. Just twice a week. Can't face it five times a week like I used to be able to.

MagalyMaman · 05/09/2015 12:25

The jeans are still hard to do up so I need to keep going for a bit yet.

How's it going OP? I still haven't started but you are definitely inspiring me!

MagalyMaman · 20/09/2015 20:52

Still going with it!

The first three weeks I was really gung ho, doing three 1000c days a week, the last three weeks it has been harder with various things i had planned, I could only do it twice a week. I put on one pound, but I'm going to keep going with it and hope to do three 1000c days this week and I'm aiming to dip under the nine stone (just)

Sounds like you are doing really well. Something I could consider on a long term basis. I might have missed it, but do you set a limit on calories on your non-1000 days?

MagalyMaman · 21/09/2015 13:27

No not really, but then, I never binged, I wasn't really eating the wrong things (apart from the odd glass of wine and a few too many crackers while I prepared the dinner).

So I'm an uncomplicated eater. It's not emotional eating or bad habits. I had simply been eating about 1.1 times as much food as I needed over a long period of time and had gone from 9 stone to nearly ten.

So this brings the over all calorie intake down. I'm also drinking less wine as I can only drink it on a normal day, and wine is a bad habit so I find myself reaching for it less often even on the normal days. I wasn't that bad with the wine!! I'm making myself sound a lush!!

Yesterday, I had a big lunch at my parents' and I didn't eat again today until 1 o'clock (going against all the advice! but I felt fine. Just had one slice of toast with a mushed up banana on it). Today is a 1000c day and now it's half one and I've fitted a 24 hour fast in. First time I've done that. I'd consider it next time I go to lunch on Sunday.

I'll do it again on Wednesay. I'm out on friday evening, for a curry and a couple of beers!! so I'll do it on Saturday.

It's actually easy. Friends have started to notice! My daughter who is 13 has a gimlet eye and she wouldn't praise me for no reason, she told me Ilooked better in my jeans. Phew, she's a harsh critic.

Another month on Magaly - (my daughter's teacher's name!) how are you doing?

MagalyMaman · 14/11/2015 13:36

I'm 8 stone 10 now. I am still doing it. I was out last night so I'm doing it today........

Really pleased. I haven't been 8 stone ten since the summer I got pregnant with my DC1

I'm so glad I've just seen your thread OP and I'm going to start tomorrow.

How much have you lost in total and how long did it take?

MagalyMaman · 17/11/2015 08:21

I was about 9 stone 11 when I started this 11/08
Now I'm about 8 stone 10. So definitely lost over a stone! I am pleased with it.

I had been doing it for two months and I was 9 stone 2 and had been for weeks and I was wondering, is this it then? Stalling at 9 stone two when I still have love handles and back fat!??!

Then suddenly I lost another six pounds ! I think that might be because of the way I'm fitting a 16 hour fast in on the 1000c days. I now try and postpone eating on those days until as late as I can manage. That kick-started another loss.

Also, the

I started it yesterday OP and so far so good. I have some exante food left over from the summer so I had three 200kcal meals yesterday and I'm eating semi normally today in that I'm not stuffing myself with rubbish.

It's great for me because I can handle low cal eating as long as it not long term.

I'll report back next week when I've done a full 10 days.

Alexjoy · 18/11/2015 12:58

Massive congrats OP.

I'm definitely going to try this. Need to shift 7-10 pounds before Xmas and reckon this will work.

As you say 1000 isn't that bad and it means quick, easy loss! Genius!

troubleatmillcock · 18/11/2015 16:55

OP, this is a revelation! You've done so well - a stone, wow!

I need to lose perhaps 10 pounds by Xmas. Would feel loads better.

Just been looking at some meal plans online for 1000 calorie days and it looks do-able. Obviously no wine, treats etc but lots of veg and protein.

Will certainly give this a try. Might also try and be veggie on these days, as what really bumps up your cals is meat.

poorbuthappy · 18/11/2015 17:09

Am marking my place to read this tomorrow at lunchtime with my glasses on!!!

Loveleopardprint · 18/11/2015 17:11

I would like to try this. Could you give me some ideas for breakfast/lunch and supper please? You have all inspired me with this thread but would like some actual food ideas. TIA
