gym / exercisers, who's got a treadmill? And do you use it?

I fancy getting a treadmill, but dh concerned it's a big expense and we won't use it.

Just wondered if anyone's got one and if they stick to it or if it's gahering dust?

Dh suggested renting one for a month to get a feel for it,, but no one seems to do rentals.

Can you just go out and run? I know family circumstances mean not everyone can - but it's cheaper than a treadmill and your trainers don't take up much space!

i don't have a treadmill but i do have a cross trainer which i use 3-4 times a week. i got it off ebay. try and get a second hand one there must be loads of folk off loading them.

well, I used to but now lo is 3, I can't leave him alone, got no one else to look after him, can't exactly run far with him. In 2 years tim problem solved but I'll be as fat as a hefer by then. Or am I being blind to the solution? How does one run when one has a little one and no childcare?

that is the reason i got the cross trainer. by the time dh gets home it is too dark to go out running. i just pop on the 'machine' as it known in this house and do 30 mins and it is done.

I run with friends - we used to dump the little ones on our alternate dh/dps. Mine look after themselves now though so I don't have that problem anymore

or skipping is good. if you have room for a treadmill you definitely have room to skip. i would do this but i live in a flat and didn't fancy landing on my neighbour in the middle of it.

well dh often not back till 8 ish so can't go after he's back, and I also want him to be able to get some exercise as he could really do with it. Skipping is ok but not something you can do while watching tele. I also don't think I could stick to it for half an hour whereas I could with a treadmill. I got a little trampoline, but problem with that is boys jump on with me or have tantrum if I use it in day, and too noisy to use at night. Dh refuses to use trampoline, but he would use a treadmill, I think. He also quite likes running, but getting in late prevents him (and me)

Sounds like you need a treadmill then ernest. Do you have space for it in the house? We have a rower in the garage and it's gathering dust now the weather is colder.

I'm hoping it'll get to 23rd december and dh will still have no idea what to get me, so buy one in desperation, lol.

Most treadmills actually fold up. As long as you have the space to open them out when in use I think they can be fitted in somewhere. I don't have one at the moment (use gym one) but intend to get one when move to new house. It is so restrictive exercise wise when you have small children, especially in the evening. I'd imagine a treadmill would be a godsend as you can fit in 30 mins independent of weather or childcare. I wish i'd had one after my son was born.

was at shops today and say a cross trainer basically half price. I phone dh to ask about ti. Yey, he agreed I could get it. Went back - already sold. Just in those 5 minutes. I was so gutted, I litterally almost cried.

Decided cross trainer way to go - thanks pesme for that - cos more muscle groups, my fav. machine in gym, and most imp very quiet so can use easier when kids in bed or when watching tele. Also have bit of a dodgy knee, so no thuding great from many respects. Can't believe my 5 minutes dither loast me out on hundreds of francs.

Hi, just an update. Phoned around different branches of that shop that had the cross trainer on offer and found one that offered me that same one, with an even bigger discount, so saved even more, and what's better, it was boxed, not ex display, so it's now intalled right in front of tv. unfortunately wasn't expecting to have to watch Thomas the beedin Tank Engine but never mind. That's my Christmas pressie sorted, lol
