5' 6" and what weight and dress size?

So, I could probably be described as having a touch of body dysmorphia but I am quite surprised by my dress size considering my weight and appearance.

Nosey nosey, I know, but I'm supercurious what size other people are compared to their weight if you're happy to share...

Joining in to agree that frame size is important. Im 5' 3.5" and very small boned. Even so, when i was tipping the scales at 13st I wore size 22 trousers and mostly tents on my top half.

I'm now about 11 st, fit comfortably into size 12 of the jeans i had before and size 16 tops. I expect to end up around 8.5 sone. If I get there, i will be wearing different brands, as the current brand of jeans stops at size 10, which i can already get in to but are currently too tight for all day comfort.

So, frame size matters and sizes very a lot between different manufacturers. Often even the publicised measurements for garments include a greater or lessor allowance for ease of wearing. I wish they just published the actually waist measurement of a pair of trousers and let me up my own mind.

Funny, don't mind saying this out loud since I have been loosing weight steadily this year. I was very miserable when i reached this size on the way up, now on the way down its compliments on looking well from all quarters.

5'6, 10 stone and a size twelve, ten in some places.

I'd like to be 9.7, from experience, that's my perfect ten, but I'm lazy...

aseaandthreestars · 22/07/2015 10:13

I'M 5'6" and weigh 9 stone 5. Since de-regulation, I think that clothes sizes are pretty pointless and not helpful to buyers at all.

I've got a kilt that's 20 years old, it's a size 12 and it fits, but is fairly snug. I tried on a dress at the weekend that I bought in 1997 (very frugal here) and it fits perfectly, it's a size 12. But, all of my recent buys have been size 8 - Sainsbury's size 8 trousers pretty much fall off.

This. I have a pair of size 20 Matalan shorts that fit me, but my size 16 Matalan dress is huge. My size 16 Oasis dress doesn't even pull down over my chest, but my size 14 River Island coat looks deliberately oversized. My size 18 Primark work dress looks lovely with my size 14 New Look blazer Confused

Twinkie1 · 22/07/2015 12:30

Size 12, 5'7", 10st 10lb.

I have body dysmorphia and won't wear anything smaller than a 14 so no one can see the body under the clothes. Friends and my DH tell me I'm ridiculous but the past eating disorder mentality is there in my head. Some days I feel ok but other days I am horribly sad at my bodies size and shape.

User543212345 · 22/07/2015 12:33

5'5.5"
7st13
Size 4/6

I probably look way better at bang on 9st and a size 8. It's easier to shop then too.

plumstone · 22/07/2015 12:35

11.10 size 14 - feel awful - I am much happier 10.10 and a size 12 - which I will be by Christmas!! Grin

The plus is being an hourglass the weight is very evenly split and at heaviest 12.9 and a very tight size 14 I still have a waist!!

larnieperty89 · 22/07/2015 12:39

I'm 5''6 & weigh 9 stone 11lbs I've squeezed myself into a a pair of size 12 h&m jeans but I fear the zip may burst at any moment. My baby girl is 4 months & im trying to start some form of fitness regime but previously I was 9stone 3lbs and a happy size 10 - Don't want to be an uncomfortable 12Shock

Sootgremlin · 22/07/2015 12:45

5' 6" and ten stone at the moment, 18 months post dc2. I don't feel good on it even though a size 10/12 (12 on top - still breast feeding!) as it just doesn't suit me. My fighting weight is 9st 4 but would be happy to lose half a stone when I stop feeding and get back to 9st 7. Then I'm 8/10.

Sootgremlin · 22/07/2015 12:47

I see loads of people that are probably technically 'bigger' than me but that look so stylish and well-proportioned in comparison, I seems to lose all sense of how to dress my shape when I put weight on.

Dynomite · 22/07/2015 13:50

5'7''
9 stone and 12lbs
size 8-12 (i'm quite heavy on the bottom but very slim waist/top - buying clothes, especially trousers is always a bit difficult)

aseaandthreestars · 22/07/2015 16:25

One of the issues that this thread seems to prove is that judging clothes by weight just doesn't work, we all come in such different shapes. The system used to work so well, you'd know that clothes would fit your measurements and weight didn't come into it.

I don't care if I'm a size 10, 12, 300 or cosine divided by tangent, i just want to pick up a dress and know it will fit me.

louloo8 · 23/07/2015 01:16

5'4, 11 stone, anything from a size 8-12. I think I carry my weight well but I need to get down to my lowest of 9 stone again as that was my happiest.

Athrawes · 23/07/2015 01:46

Around 11.5 stone and size 12/14. And I think I look OK for my age (45). I swim a bit and do see other women my age - some are achingly gorgeous and either slim or rounded but others are just skinny and boney (they look great in clothes though).

chickydoo · 25/07/2015 11:51

5ft 7 ( well actually 5ft 6 &3/4)
Weighed 8stone 6 this morning
Clothes size 8, sometimes 10
Am small frame with muscles

StillFrankie · 25/07/2015 13:33

5'5

14 stone 11 (sometimes go up to 15 stone though)

Size 18, 38D boobs, apple shape

bunique · 25/07/2015 13:55

This is really interesting but all it makes me think is how much more I have to lose!

Touch over 5ft6, currently around 12st9 and a 14/16. Have been 16st and a size 22in the past. Aiming to get to 11st4 as that's a mythical weight I was aged 15 before I piled on the pounds. But all these 9 and 10st people are making me think I should reevaluate downwards!!

Branleuse · 25/07/2015 14:18

5ft 6, and 64kg, which is about 10stone 2.
im about size 12.

Dowser I share your mystification! I suppose it depends on exactly how your weight is distributed...I have a horrible figure with a fat belly and big boobs but stick like arms and legs. I look a bit like an orange with cocktail sticks stuck into it! Maybe if my weight was more evenly spread, I'd be a smaller dress size.

I don't have stick thin arms or legs. I could understand it if I did. I have big boobs, wide hips I do have a waist albeit at 33 ins it's a big one!

Crutchlow35 · 25/07/2015 19:49

I am 5'7. Weigh 11 stone. Started the year at 14. I was an 18/20 but now a 12/14. Smart work jackets are still a 16. I have big boobs. I want to shift another 7-10lbs.

TalkinPeace · 25/07/2015 19:58

Dress size
Its not a real thing
because every manufacturer uses different dimensions
in fact some manufacturers use different dimensions for different styles within a size.

AND
Frame shape has a massive impact on what your happy weight is for each size.

You need to look yourself up here
www.cockeyed.com/photos/bodies/heightweight.html
and see where you fit in.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 25/07/2015 20:06

I'm 5'6" and I've just hit 10stone, having lost 8lbs.

I'm a size 12, loose fit, not tight.

I do have some random size 10 clothes but that's vanity sizing.

Hopefully · 25/07/2015 20:06

10st 12lb, size 12, very occasionally a 14 in trousers. I am large framed (big hands and feet, broad shoulders) and feel my best at about a stone lighter than I am now, at a size 10, but smaller than that I look disproportionate due to shoulders.

justcallmethefixer · 25/07/2015 20:10

8, 10 size 10 or 8 depending on shop, but a 12 for jackets I want to do up due to wide shoulders

fanciesdefrancais · 25/07/2015 20:56

So interesting.

And thanks for the links, talkin
