Who has lost a lot of weight on their late 40s (or older)?

I am in the middle of a big move to another country. When we finally get settled again I need to get fit and healthy. I am now 46, has anyone lost 2 stone or more at my age or older and kept it off?

I am hopeful as I am doing no exercise right now and I managed to lose a lot a couple of years ago. Due to all the uncertainty of our move the last 2 years I have found it very hard to focus on myself.

Several friends at my gym have.

One lady lost 3 stone in time for her 70th birthday.
Another is 6 stone down and she's early 50's
another is 7 stone down and late 60's

its harder but entirely doable.

I'm 45. I've lost 5.5 stone and kept it off for over a year.

I had a wake-up moment on my 50th birthday! I signed up for weight watchers online, took up running (first exercise I'd ever done!) and lost three stone. That was 14 years ago and although my weight occasionally fluctuates by 4 or 5lbs, I've kept it off. I think the secret is not looking on it as a diet but as a permanent lifestyle change.

46 yrs here! I lost a stone between last August and this February. I am doing well keeping it off. I never went to the gym but followed a home video and just mentally cut down on carbs (no specific diet) I've reached my target 9st 5lbs. It can be done.

ItsaTenfromDen · 30/05/2015 06:29

52, 26lb down since the end of January, 14lb to go. Just trying my best every day to make the right choices. Not much in the way of exercise, but the plan is always to step it up a little

Crouchendmumoftwo · 03/06/2015 09:40

Thanks Zeis10, I want to lose at least half a stone more. Im 11 stone now and in 5'9 so I want to be 10.5 stone and then 10.3 stone if Im really honest. Would be great before my hols in July!

Fiddlerontheroof · 03/06/2015 09:43

I'm 43, I've lost 5 stone since last summer, slowly, 1-2lb a week..it's very very doable. xxx

I am 65 and have lost, slowly and gently over the last eighteen months, the three stone I put on during the menopause. I have done it purely through moderate low-carbing and reduced portion size. I do one keep fit class a week, walk vigorously and do a lot of gardening (I personally think gardening is the best exercise). I am 9 stone, BMI 21 and have maintained the same weight since February.
I haven't changed my exercise regime at all.
I love our low-carb diet, which uses up lots of the vegetables we grow.

oddfodd · 03/06/2015 10:01

I have lost 1.5 stone since February doing 5:2 and am 50 :)
