Anyone fancy a no-frills sensible eating/exercise thread?

I have lost 4.5st in the last 2 years and I still have 2.5st to go but I'm so fed up with faddy diets and counting things, they've gotten me this far but I need to move on!

I just want to retrain my appetite and my attitude to food by eating sensibly, having a little bit of what I fancy now and again whilst getting fitter too.

Anyone care to join me?

me please! all I want is to shift a stone but it's taken me 3 years to get started. would be great to help each other x

shitebag · 18/05/2015 10:24

Hello, don't feel quite so lonesome now :o

Well done for getting the motivation together, its the hardest part isn't it!

Today is my fresh start so I have my day all planned out as I find that helps keep me on track.

Breakfast: Mug of green, 2 boiled eggs and one slice of toast.
Lunch: Chicken and sweetcorn soup and a pear.
Dinner: 2 sausages, mashed potato, gravy brocolli and carrots.
Snack: Fat free natural yogurt and handful of raspberries.

Exercise: Davina 7 minute dvd Warm up, tone & sculpt and total stretch.

I will probably die after this and then I won't have to worry about my weight haha.

I'm with you! I've got 2 stone left to lose (have already lost 9lb) and have set myself the goal of doing it by my holiday which is 28 weeks away. I'm hoping that doing this sensibly will mean I stay on a slow and steady 1lb a week loss! Weekends are my downfall - had my MIL to stay and she is lovely but brought so many snacks. Plus the weather was lovely so we kept ducking into pubs all weekend to sip a gin, feeling rather blue this Monday!

Made it out for a run this morning though, so it's not all bad!

nutellaontoast · 18/05/2015 13:56

Hello yus, please may I join in?

Got a wedding to go to at the start of July. Bought some dresses online to try on, made the hubs take a picture of me in them....oft. I need to drop 3 stone but this is me so a zero treat thing isn't going to fly.

I have All the Healthy Things in to eat, following Dale Pinnock recipes largely, must do some more on the cross trainer. Have made a good start but some support would be fab :)

nutellaontoast · 18/05/2015 13:57

Just to add I know I'm not going to reach target weight by July (dammit)....

shitebag · 18/05/2015 14:08

Hi Scribble and Nutella, the more the merrier and all that :o

Well done on your loss so far Scribble and your plan sounds totally doable! Evenings are my downfall, watching TV once kids are in bed used to be snacks galore for me Blush need to keep my thoughts of it when I'm sitting. V.impressed by your running! I'm hoping to start C25k next week when DH is home so we'll see lol

Nutella, no treats doesn't work for me either. Everything in moderation is key I think its just finding that balance isn't it?

If you find out how to loss 3st by July please feel free to share ;)

scribblegirl · 18/05/2015 14:19

I started with C25k, it's really good! What's really helped me is that DH is on a similar kick at the moment and we've friended on MFP - it's getting a bit competitive! damn men being allowed more calories

You day today sounds lovely, sausages for dinner doesn't feel like a diet Grin We've got chicken marinading away whilst I'm at work for steaming tonight but really all I want is pizza! Probably not helped by getting an offer email from Pizza Express five minutes ago...

nutellaontoast · 18/05/2015 16:16

Ummmm pizza.

Soaking some mushrooms for a pearl barley risotto... And we appear to have just bought a juicer from the charity shop?! (I thought it was a food processor and dispatched DH to get it as ours is kaput)

So this healthy eating thing may be involving juice now :)

shitebag · 18/05/2015 16:30

Ssssshhhhhhttttt, no pizza!!!

I'm off out for an Indian on Saturday so that's my treat this week.

My brother swears by his juicer although he uses his to bulk up rather than slim down.

OP posts:
scribblegirl · 18/05/2015 16:42

Ok, ok, pizza doesn't exist here Wink

Saturday night is one of my friends' birthdays and I'm hotfooting it down to my mum and dad's for a roast on Sunday, so I do need to stay on top of things this week if I am to enjoy!

Does anyone have a particular day for weighing themselves? I've got into the habit of Friday mornings so that it's at my very best weight before the weekend starts!

I've not got a juicer as I don't really like fruit - I'll eat veg until the cows come home but I've not got a sweet tooth (lardy arse is thanks to savory treats rather than sweet ones). That said I know people who love them!

shitebag · 18/05/2015 16:55

I don't have a set weigh day now, but up until a month ago it was a Wed night at Slimming World. I'm happy to join you on a Friday for a skinnier start to the weekend :o

OP posts:
scribblegirl · 19/05/2015 16:59

Horray for Friday.... not sure I'll be saying that when I get there!

Have been ok today - made an enormous jar salad (www.buzzfeed.com/carolynkylstra/mason-jar-salads) for lunch today and have a stir fry lined up for dinner. A friend is popping over though and there's about a 99% chance we'll wind up opening some wine...

How did you find SW shitebag? I can understand wanting to switch onto something less 'count'-y but I've never been able to get my head around the idea of unlimited pasta, there's no way on earth I'd lose weight with that!

shitebag · 19/05/2015 17:46

Ooh salad sounds good, I'm having a terrible day today! Had a surprise baby shower (yes, I cringed when invited) and had a bacon roll followed by 2 slices of cake and I have been brought 2 cheese and onion pasties from Gregg's from 200 miles away which I obviously have to have for dinner so ERM... Yeah! Extra 10 minutes exercise tonight, no food after dinner and back on track tomorrow for damage limitation Blush

But then again this is why I prefer to be sensible and have a little blow out every now and again rather than being strict, will also be having an Indian on Saturday but no more treats for a few weeks afterwards.

I was 13st 7lbs last week so even a pound off would suit me tbh.

I did SW for a year and enjoyed it but then my weight loss stopped and they kept telling me I wasn't eating enough and to snack more on fruit and veg but I don't want to have to snack. Seems crazy to me and yes I'm a carb-a-holic too.

How's it been going today Scribble and Nutella?

I've had a good day today although I skipped breakfast and had a long lie so not quite as healthy as I should've been!

Breakfast: err a cup of tea
Lunch: Spicy tomato and lentil soup
Dinner: Homemade chicken fried rice (used 2 sprays of fry light) and 8 prawn crackers
Snack: Natural yogurt and a banana

Exercise: Davina 7 minute DVD (again :o) warm up, fat burner, box fit and stretch.

Need to get back to proper healthiness tomorrow so will go back to planning ahead this evening.

On me lunch break, just ate a massive salad and half a square of very dark chocolate, rhubarb and porridge for brekkie.

Been quite good this morning... The thing is though I work in an ice cream shop! So half a scoop of gin and tonic sorbet and a tote of white chocolate fudge sauce may have been partaken of, for professional reasons ??

Still, that's why zero anything is not going to work!

The main thing I need to do now is get off my bum and onto the cross trainer...

scribblegirl · 22/05/2015 16:33

Weigh in day! Lost 1lb this week. Pleased but a bit grumpy - I had AF had turned up the day I weighed in last week and I'd convinced my self that the water retention would go woosh (not literally I hasten to add) and I'd shed 4lbs without trying Wink ah well.

Shitebag your Wednesday sounds amazing! Very well done. Ditto your Thursday Nutella - how you manage to be good when you work in an ice cream shop of all places is beyond me! I'm in an office with no snacks so work is where I hide from naughty food...

I was very good today and had soup for lunch AND racked up my fifth gym visit this week!

However... DH and I are meeting at the pub after work. Where we will have a couple of drinks and likely order some kind of takeaway. I'm pushing for Thai and pretending there are no calories at all in thai green curry and spicy prawn crackers...

nutellaontoast · 22/05/2015 18:47

Feck yeah Thai green curry. Enjoy it :).

Well done on your pound! Flowers

I'm down 1 or 3 pounds depending on whether you believe the scales now or this morning... Thinking 1 really! But nearly a stone since Christmas, so.

Have ordered Dale Pinnock The Medicinal Chef.

Today:

1 slice low GI toast, peanut butter and a little fruit spread
Pearl barley/mushroom risotto
2 small slices pizza, bean tomato salad with vinegar only dressing
1 square dark chocolate
And a sample of Kinder Bueno ice cream... Accommpanied by the obligatory mmmm that's good mumble. Sometimes I have the best job lol

Also, the coast dress I spent £125 on for two weddings this summer has arrived... In a deliberate size under. So I have to lose the spare poundage now!

How ya doing shitebag?
