Needing to lose 4st+ - support thread!

Since I want somewhere to track my progress I'm gonna do it here and have it act as a support thread for anyone else who wants to join me - because it certainly feels daunting and we can use all the help we can get!

I am 5 foot nothing and post DS (almost 6 months) I weigh (as of this morning) 95.2kg which I believe is around 14.5stone, but I avoid using st and lbs as I find it triggering. I would like to be back down to my pre-baby weight of circa 80kg by BiL's wedding in June. So...

HippyJess
SW: 95.2kg
GW1: 80kg (June)
GW2: 68kg (September)
UGW: 58kg (March 2016)

Short Term Goal: Do Davina's 15 Minute Fit every day for a week, starting today. I did it, and some of the easy versions were hard :( which is why I need to keep going.

Hope someone out there will want to join me! Hoping to post once a day to keep myself on track :) now off I go to make myself an omelette and veggies for lunch!

Hi everyone

I haven't read the whole thread but can I join? I would love to lose 3-4 stones. I joined weight watchers in December and lost about 1 and a half stone. However I am really struggling at the moment. I haven't lost anything for the past 3 weeks and have probably gained. I just feel frustrated with the slow rate of weight loss.

Hello 5seconds.

Are you sticking to your plan, or have you gone a bit off-piste? Either way, I know the feeling. Also, I was reading (sorry, 'I was reading...' is a bit of a theme of mine) about someone doing either Weight Watchers or the other big one whose name escapes me at the moment. Anyway, she was filling up on the 'free' food, and her weight loss stalled after a while. It turned out that she was simply eating too much free food.

I've just had a few minutes loss of control where I consumed a lot of pointless calories. I could slap myself. I know it's not the end of the world, and I still have a calorie deficit for the day (just) and most of the time I'm really controlled, but I just really don't know why I did it. Even as I was doing it, I was regretting it. Bah, no room for smugness or complacency.

pippistrelle · 09/05/2015 20:48

Vicki - I am shaking my fist at those mean people. What is wrong with some people?

But fitting in to something you haven't worn for a while is a great feeling, isn't it?

pippistrelle · 11/05/2015 14:53

Well, I paid for my mini-binge by putting on 2lbs which takes me back to my plateau. I know it can't be 'real' weight, iyswim, because there's no way I've consumed 7000 extra calories, so it must be water retention or something. Grrr!

Hope everyone else is doing well and sticking it to the adipose tissue.

5secondstilltakeoff · 12/05/2015 07:34

Hi pippi

My problem is I have weeks where I stick to the plan and lose pounds. Then i think i have been good let me have a treat. But thr problem is once I have one treat my appetite for sweet things just becomes huge and I binge. Last week I had visitors over in the weekend end one of them brought a cheese cake. Wrecked my whole week. I need to find ways to stop at one when I indulge. My strategy isnnormally to avoid treats by not buying them or chucking them in the bin but I cant do that indefinitely I live with 3 other people and cant keep chucking away their sweet foods. Anyone else have this problem

pippistrelle · 13/05/2015 11:24

Oh yes.

In fact, I find I have most success if I eat extremely repetitively, rather than small amounts of a more varied diet. It's almost like some foods might act as a trigger to loss of control.

Overall, 3lbs down this week. Happy with that. I need to learn not to panic about fluctuations if I'm going to insist on weighing myself daily. Ideally, I should probably weigh only weekly but, for focus, I feel a need to do it every day.

vickibee · 15/05/2015 09:41

Once again my weekly weigh-in at WW last night, only two pound this week (but I did eat out twice). Total loss since mid Feb is 1 stone and ten pounds so I am starting to feel the difference. Still a long way to go though (need to lose another 3 stone at least)

5secondstilltakeoff · 15/05/2015 10:35

Congrats on your weight loss vicki. Do you still lose weight when you use your weekly points as well as your daily ones. I always go over my daily points as I spread out my weekly ones for the week. I am wondering whether i should just stop using the weekly ones to get a quicker result.

YY to repetitive meals and avoiding triggers to your appetite. My main triggers are any dessert type foods but bread, eggs and cheese can also be triggers.

vickibee · 15/05/2015 11:51

I don't tend to use my weekly points at all. My daily PP is 35 because i weight 17 stone - this is enough if I stick to filling foods. I have given up biscuits/ cakes/sweets/crisps etc completely and the funny thing is I dont miss them. For breakfast I have rediscoverd grapefruit which is zero!! I used to eat my tea with my son when he got home from school around 5pm and was snacking later. I have put tea back to 6pm and can last while bedtime. 7 while 9pm are the worst times for me thinking and craving food. I have a glass of water of diet drink. It is bloody hard and even though I have lost loads there still seems an impossible journey

pippistrelle · 16/05/2015 16:08

I understand the 'it seems impossible' feeling, but you're doing really well, Vicki, at losing weight consistently.

I try to focus on small milestones rather than on the big, daunting, impossible picture. And I try to have as many as possible in mind. So, when I lose one more pound, I will no longer be the dreaded 'O' word (merely 'overweight', but hey ho...) One more pound after that, and I'll have lost two stones. Today, I bought myself a new top, exactly the same as one I bought in February or March, but two sizes smaller. Okay, it's a t-shirt rather than a tight buttoned thing, but it's a 12! (I should add that I am not a tall person so even if I were a genuine size 12 person - and I'm not (yet) - I would still be overweight for me. But it's all progress.)

LondonHuffyPuffy · 17/05/2015 21:22

Hi Everyone. How are you doing? I'm having a snack craving so posting here instead. I don't have a sweet tooth but am desperate for something sugary right now. No fruit in the house... big mistake! I've already had half a solero today (made DH eat the other half. What a hero Grin )

The walking is going well. I did 18.3km yesterday. Was aiming for 20km but needed a wee at 15km with no public loos in sight so walked home v fast!

yay for size 12 tshirt, pippi that's great progress!

I'm off to drink water

DH is eating a Magnum

He is most definitely not a hero right now

pippistrelle · 17/05/2015 21:51

LTB, Huffy. It's the only way...

Amazing walking prowess. Seriously impressive.

LondonHuffyPuffy · 17/05/2015 23:19

I agree! Either that or shove his Magnum where the sun doesn't shine!

Cheers. I'm loving the walking! Gave myself a break today though.

Pound by pound, we're going to do this. Thanks for the support x

5secondstilltakeoff · 17/05/2015 23:47

London wow 18.3km is amazing. Roughly how long do you walk for? I have been wanting to increase my activity level and do more exercise. When i first lost weight (pre kids) i lost about 20kg mainly by exercising daily in the gym. However i had a csection last year and have been really cautious about doing strenous workouts. I have been walking though nothing close to what your doing. I just walk for half an hour.

LondonHuffyPuffy · 18/05/2015 00:02

18.3km took about 4 hours but 1.5 hours of that was spent mooching around Tate Modern. If I walk home from work via the Thames Path, which is about 10km, it takes about 1.5 hours. I don't walk that fast though and usually stop at M&S on the way to buy nice salad and prawns or something for dinner! That motivates me for the last 4km

LondonHuffyPuffy · 18/05/2015 00:05

I really recommend the FitBit. I use that and also MapMyWalk. It's really helped to motivate me. That and M&S prawns!

pippistrelle · 20/05/2015 10:15

Two stones down, two to go! And I'm no longer in the obese BMI category. But I suspect that this is the point at which it's easy to lose focus and back-slide. I have done before (although I haven't got this far before) and I really don't want to do it again. We've got a few days away coming up, and I'm a bit worried about disruption to my routine, as I really rely on routine to keep me on track.

vickibee · 20/05/2015 10:28

good for you Pippi, thats at least two dress sizes, a good excuse to buy new clothes! I have clothes in my wardrobe in a range of sizes and things come out when they fit.

I am hoping to have lost two pounds at my Weigh-in this week as it will mean I have lost ten percent of my body weight (you get a cheesy certificate for that) It is much harder when you are away from home as most cafe food is not filling and healthy.

pippistrelle · 20/05/2015 10:54

Thank you, vicki. And fingers crossed for the cheesy (low fat variety) certificate this week.

I have bought a few new things, but I also have a supply of previously optimistic online purchases that didn't fit me, but I liked them and kept, in the hope that they might fit me one day. Well, now they do! It's mostly summer stuff though, so I just need some warmer weather now.

pippistrelle · 20/05/2015 11:18

Oh, and I've made room for the previously non-fitting clothes by sending three big bags of now too big clothes off to the charity shop. So, I can't afford to get bigger again. That might help me resist the lure of the cream tea on my long weekend away...

LondonHuffyPuffy · 20/05/2015 21:38

Nice work, pippi! That must have felt very satisfying, taking the old you to the charity shop!

I fit comfortably into a pair of size 16 trousers today. I bought them in a fit of optimism about 2 years ago. Well chuffed with that. Hoping I'll be taking them to the charity shop in a few weeks Grin

vickibee · 21/05/2015 20:28

Three pounds off this week, I got my ten percent award at ww and a key ring as a gift! I have lost 27 in total, only another 40 to go. Onwards and upwards.

pippistrelle · 22/05/2015 11:40

Happy for you, vicki! (And, somehow, I don't think you did it for the key ring!)

And well done to Huffy too: it's very satisfying to have some tangible sign of progress.

vickibee · 22/05/2015 14:30

I am going out for a meal tonight with friends and the menu looks pretty calorific! I fancy a steak (no chips) and blow my pro-points for once, got to have some pleasure in life!!!

LondonHuffyPuffy · 25/05/2015 17:37

Gah. Big blow out day yesterday. Drank loads of Wine and ate loads of crap. Can't bring myself to stand on the scales. Back on track today.
