Needing to lose 4st+ - support thread!

Since I want somewhere to track my progress I'm gonna do it here and have it act as a support thread for anyone else who wants to join me - because it certainly feels daunting and we can use all the help we can get!

I am 5 foot nothing and post DS (almost 6 months) I weigh (as of this morning) 95.2kg which I believe is around 14.5stone, but I avoid using st and lbs as I find it triggering. I would like to be back down to my pre-baby weight of circa 80kg by BiL's wedding in June. So...

HippyJess
SW: 95.2kg
GW1: 80kg (June)
GW2: 68kg (September)
UGW: 58kg (March 2016)

Short Term Goal: Do Davina's 15 Minute Fit every day for a week, starting today. I did it, and some of the easy versions were hard :( which is why I need to keep going.

Hope someone out there will want to join me! Hoping to post once a day to keep myself on track :) now off I go to make myself an omelette and veggies for lunch!

A pound more off for me. I can't remember my last update but I've lost 15.75 pounds now. I'd like to lose another 5.25 lbs before the kids go back to school (4 weeks time for us).

siiiiiiiiigh · 25/07/2015 08:24

Finished my binge. I have a slight hangover and am sick of sugar.

Starting over.
Again

siiiiiiiiigh · 25/07/2015 08:53

I'm half an inch down on my waist. So, that's a total of 2.5" off my waist.

So, that's quite good.

LondonHuffyPuffy · 25/07/2015 18:28

That's excellent, siiiiiiigh, Hope you're feeling better about stuff today.

congrats to pippi and downtown for inch/ lb loss too. And vicki, 1/2 lb gain is not bad. I can swing by whole kilos in a week

I am currently 83.9kg or 13 stone 2lb. 12 stone something is within sight!

1.5 lbs is good.

Soup unless creamy is filling and low calorie. I make massive pots of chicken or lamb broth and freeze portions the same volume as a bought tin of soup. One portion comes in at around 125 calories and will do for my lunch or dinner.

I don't set out to make it low calorie. I want to make it filling.

I get my biggest couldron pot and put a little oil, fry off some diced onions, quite a lot, 2 or 3 large, 200g chopped lamb or chicken, fry off for a little longer then add sliced leeks - 3 or 4, couple of bunches of celery finely chopped, 6 or 7 carrots sliced, turnip (I cook turnip in the micro first to make it easy to peel), a kettle full of boiling water, chicken stock cubes, some salt and cracked black pepper and about a 3rd of a packet of pearl barley which I wash thoroughly before putting in the pot. I let it boil then simmer for half an hour and it is ready. It usually too thick so I top it up with boiled water from the kettle.

I then divide it into portions and work out the calorie value of each on my fitness pal by creating a recipe.

The soup is so chunky and thick you don't need bread. The frozen portions make a quick lunch or dinner. If I have that for one meal and a normal, not too over the top meal for the other, I end up having a low calorie day without being hungry.

pippistrelle · 26/07/2015 14:54

One and a half pounds IS good, mumslife! (Not 'mudslide', as my autocorrect keeps wanting to call you.) I'd happily take that at the moment, as weight loss seems to have slowed in a very irritating way here. Not helped by the fact that I had a bit of a breakfast binge today - trying to keep food intake minimal for the ready of the day. Was also a bit slack yesterday. And the day before... It's not even because I'm hungry. I think, fundamentally, I'm just a bit greedy.

Protein is your friend for curbing hunger, and providing energy - so eggs or meat (chicken or turkey, in particular, are very low calorie).

siiiiiiiiigh · 26/07/2015 14:54

prawn salad's really yum. I like a bit of mayonnaise and salad creme mixed together with a huge sprinkling of cayenne pepper. Really nice. or basalmic vinegar on salads. I really like a good salad. Surprisingly.

Sardines are good too, high in fat, but, the good fat. Very filling and cheap.
very tasty with the tomato tinned ones mashed up and put onto rivet/oatcakes.

frozen grapes were mentioned upthread - now a convert, so, thanks. Previously I only liked my grapes fermented.

eggs. Lashings and lashings of eggs.

sparkling water with a drop of lemon/lime juice. You can pretend it's gin. Surprisingly good, especially with crushed ice.

siiiiiiiiigh · 26/07/2015 14:58

My fitness pal's been mentioned a couple of times. I used it a long time ago, and gave up because of the shame of endlessly entering tunnocks teacakes.

But, it remembers you! So, turns out I am 17lbs down from when I started on MFP. That has totally changed my mindset. I HAVE lost weight, and, importantly, kept it off for a year. I've lost enough to make a difference to my health.

So, am all motivated and going out for a run/waddle with smallest kid this afternoon. Took him to Krispy Kremes and didn't even want a doughnut. I WANT to be down a size. No time frame. Just down a size. That's what, half a stone? 10 lbs? From an 18 to a 16?

pippistrelle · 26/07/2015 14:58

I tend not to talk to anyone very much about losing weight and certainly not admit my weight I feel too embarrassed and ashamed.

This is SO me, keepon. So much so that I actually downplay the amount of weight I've lost if anyone asks about it, because I don't want to admit out loud how overweight I was.

siiiiiiiiigh · 26/07/2015 15:02

Keepon - I think you make imprtant points.

It's the long term motivation which is challenging for me. I can "be good" for a day, a week, a month - and then, oops, I'm inhaling lard because something has upset me/worried me/bored me/whatevah.

I don't understand why the advice is all about how to stave off hunger pangs. Who eats because they are hungry?

Thin people do, I suppose. The rest of us eat for other reasons. And, I have not, ever, (despite reading up, going for counselling, joining every gym available, doing visualisation etc) found anything which has helped me understand why I sublimate my emotions in a sweetie wrapper.

It's totally illogical behaviour. And, very, very common. All insights gratefully received.

DunnTrying · 26/07/2015 15:11

Is it to late to join, I'm at my heavist ever and so despondent about it, I've tried many times to loae thw weight and like keepon said I don't tend to talk to anyone about it as one I'm embarrassed and two everyone seems to have signed me off as a failure at losing weight. I pkled on weight with my two childeen, now 4 and 2, and probably have about 3st7lbs to lose? I woke up today wirh a real I've got to get a handle on this attitude and looked through threada etc dor inspiration and experiences. I'm 33 in about 3 mths and I want to at least be 2 stone lighter as my oqn gift to myself....

pippistrelle · 26/07/2015 15:11

Pound loss to be down a size, I think, must vary enormously from person to person, siiiigh, but just to give an indication, I've lost 46lbs, and have lost 5 inches from chest, 5 and a half inches from waist and 7 inches of arse. So, about 3 sizes, making it roughly 15lbs a size. I am short though, so if you're taller, I think you'd see a difference faster. And of course, as you get smaller, then it takes less weight off to change size, so the 15lbs really is only a very rough approximation.

DunnTrying · 26/07/2015 15:13

Ps I am also a huge comfort eater, I hidw myself away and aecret binge when eeally down, and as much as I love my children, doing a full timw phd, and bekng a pretty much ft atay at home mum to two very boisterous, excitable, full on childeen and very little aleep, does not help.... the comfort eating is the bit I need to get hold of as actually all in all our gwneral diet is pretty good. Sad

DunnTrying · 26/07/2015 15:15

Applogies for typo - not used to this phone!!

pippistrelle · 26/07/2015 15:19

It's never too late to join, Dunn. Welcome.

siiiiiiiiigh · 26/07/2015 15:24

Dunn, I'm the same - we eat well as a family.

It's the nibbling that's a problem, really.

Love your name - like Yoda? "do, or do not do, there is no try". I'm done trying too.
