How much did you lose before you could tell just by looking?

On the 12th Jan I was 12st 10lb, and I am now 12st - I realise this isn't a massive amount but I feel different, even if it is mainly psychologically! I am 5foot four and want to get down to 10ish (would love slightly under but we shall see!) I tend to wear loose clothes so they aren't a great indicator.
How much did you lose before you, or anyone else, could see?

I am tres short and round and really you just could not see any loss till three stone on the dot

(Still another three to go, urgh)

Nancery · 02/03/2015 20:59

How frustrating! But bloody well done on getting off three stone, good luck with the rest of it too!

I have lost nearly 2 stone and almost 2 dress sizes, i can definately tell as can hubby (cant keep his hand off me - lucky me) but no one else has noticed or said atleast. I am short and weigh 14st so still a way to go. Well done for loosing 10lbs.

dementedma · 02/03/2015 21:01

About half a stone

IgnoreMeEveryOtherReindeerDoes · 02/03/2015 21:09

2stone but then it was people I hadn't seen in a while, nobody that I see often has noticed Hmm well they haven't commented.

I only noticed when I could start getting back into my old clothes, things like getting jeans above my knees!

I kept a log of my measurements rather than weight of scales. I'd be happy to get back down another dress size.

Well done on your weight loss so far.

I started SW at 20st 4lb. People started noticing after I lost a stone. I'm now almost 2 stone down and I can feel it in my clothes, my fitness, etc. Only another 4 stone to go...sigh!

FoodieMum3 · 02/03/2015 21:21

I noticed it on myself when I lost half a stone but most people didn't notice until I had lost 2 stone I think.

I never talk about weightloss though as I'm shy and uncomfortable about it.

I've lost almost 4 stone and now even strangers (who I might know from supermarket, bank etc) comment or ask how I lost it but I always get embarrassed and play it down Blush

I think if people know you're losing weight then a stone is very noticeable. If they don't know, it probably won't be as obvious. Hope that makes sense!

Nancery · 02/03/2015 21:37

FoodieMum3 that does make sense!
I semi wish I had measured parts of myself before I started - I've never previously bothered with scales, I just knew if my clothes felt looser but I've never previously had this much to lose either!
Looks like it will take a while to be obvious then? I too am a bit shy about talking about it, generally anyway, so haven't said anything to anyone other than my cousin who I told I was 'trying to get fit again.' Im finding that seeing how much I've managed to lose so far has made me more enthusiastic, previously I fell on the first hurdle!
Thanks for saying well done - same back to you too! This is the first time I've managed to maintain enthusiasm and that 10lb means a lot!

Well done on your loss Nancery. In the past I have needed to lose about a stone before people noticed. I think it also depends when you start buying new clothes.

My dsis and I have just started ww two weeks ago. My starting weight and height was the same as yours. We took photos of each other in leggings and a vest top and plan to do the same every four weeks so we can see the difference our efforts are making. Maybe going forward that would be useful for you?Smile

Nancery · 03/03/2015 17:09

Thanks. Yes, I think the leggings option might be a good one (and not too hideous, I don't think I could cope with a bra and knickers shot!)

I think the leggins photo idea is excellent. Coincidentally, my youngest took a photo of me this morning in my leggings and I was horrified. Where the hell did all those chins come from?

hiccupgirl · 08/03/2015 08:21

About 2 stone but I was over 16 stone to start with. By 2 stone down I had to start buying smaller clothes as the other ones were falling off me and people started noticing.

Jamrollypolly · 08/03/2015 09:04

Great thread op, I was wondering the same thing. I started sw in January have lost 1 stone my husband has lost 1 1/2 stone everyone notices on him but no one says anything to me. I was starting to get disheartened but I know Its made a difference because I usually wear a size 20/22 and yesterday I bought a jacket in a size 16! My motivation now is being able to go into any shop and buy what I like rather than looking for the biggest sizes. Again I wear loose clothes so I suppose until I change my wardrobe people won't notice especially as I haven't told anyone apart from my mum, husband and children I'm doing SW.
