weight loss whilst breastfeeding

I think I've been blaming breastfeeding for my lack of weight loss since DS was born 5 months ago. I'm still 2 stone over my usual weight Blush

I'm so hungry and rushed all the time I'm making terrible food choices. I do exercise a couple of times a week but could do more. Any tips for staving off these hunger pangs? I'm drinking buckets of water as bf makes me so thirsty too!!

Hi, I'm breastfeeding and losing weight too. I've lost 19lbs since New Year's Day. I've been trying to stick to 2000 calories a day, tracking everything on MFP and doing 30 day shred. I'm now trying to up my exercise a bit by walking 4 miles with my double buggy (plus children!) a couple of times a week. I've still got 5 stone to go until I get to my goal weight.

Like you, I've really struggled with feeling hungry all of the time and just binging on whatever can lay my hands on. I've found that if I plan my meals and snacks then I'm not so bad. I've also found a website called Greatist had some good ideas for snacks and meals on it. High protein seems to be working well to keep the hunger pangs at bay most days. And my favourite snack at the moment is apple slices with either peanut butter or cashew butter to dip them in. Seems to satisfy that craving for sweetness.

Feel determined to use breastfeeding to my advantage this time round - it means I can eat more calories per day yet still lose weight! But it can be so difficult as well to resist stuffing my face all the time... at least all of the water we're drinking should be flushing the fat out. Smile

Thanks RoeDeer! And big congrats on your weight loss! Must be so motivating to have made such a good start, you've motivated me! I think 19lb off would make me feel like a new woman.

Definitely will check out that website and the apple slices is a great tip, I love almond butter but usually have it on a bagel Blush

Thanks, I am pleased with how it's going but it feels like such a long way to go still. How have you done so far? Oooh, almond butter on bagels sounds like my dream! I just keep telling myself: you can eat it once you're thin!

Would you join a slimming group? Slimming world is ok for breastfeeding mums if you join via a group rather than online. You just have to eat and drink more healthy extras than if you were following it normally.

I haven't done well at all, I lost 4lbs and put 2lb back on over my birthday Hmm

I have thought about sw dolly but money is a bit tight so was hoping to go it alone. Do you have to sign up for a full year membership? Could be good to be held accountable each week!
