Call me vain, but I'm trying to work out how much weight I will need to lose after having my baby, I have put on 2 and a half stone so far...

Can any one tell me how much weight I'm likely to lose after I have had my baby e.g in terms of fluid lost, weight of baby , placenta etc, I've put on 2 & a half stone so far at 34 weeks, & now weigh about 13 & a half stone. Can anyone give me a rough estimate?

the day b4 and day after i had ds3 i weighed my self i lost 16 lbs,(he weighed 7lbs 6oz) but..... 5 weeks later i had gained about 5 lbs i guess that was milk and stuff...
my friend just had her baby 2 weeks ago she has lost about 16lbs aswell so far,
i think its diffrent for every one though, and it depends on baby size and stuff to,

That sounds reassuring! I was pretty crap at losing weight before I was pregnant, so am really worried that I'll never get back to my pre pregnancy weight. i suppose I won't be worrying about it that much once I see my baby for the first time!

i woodnt worry about it at all, boath me and my friend took the idea when we wear preg that we wood be dieting on and off for rest of our lifes anyways so we wood just relax and eat wat our bodys wanted while preg,
and also theres no real point dieting if u plan on B/F eaver cos your body will need the extra,
once u stop that im sure the weight will drop off cos u will be running about after baby, do u know what u r having ?

Breastfeeding is a fab way to lose the weight-- it just comes off without any effort ( in fact I was eating 4 meals a day for months and after 6 months I was the slimmest I had ever been !)

Would just like to say that bf doesnt necessarily help you lose weight, i put on a lot of weight whilst bf both times but lost it quite quickly once i stopped. Was definitely worth it though and you have such great boobs no one notices if your belly is a bit flabby anyway!!
Think it was prob that i was so hungry that i just ate whatever i wanted and spent a lot of time sat around with baby attached and nothing to do but eat! Am now 14wks pg and definitely intend to bf again but will try and make more of an effort not to put on weight, wont try and lose any til i stop bf but will try not to pile it on this time.
And from what I remember 2nd time i was only about half a stone heavier after having him than i was prepreg. I think!

How tall are you ?

I gained 2.5 lbs with DD1, taking me to 10st 5. Within 10d ays I lost 17lb) & was 8st 12. Then when up to 9st, (eating too much!)

With DD2 I gained 1st 8lbs, 10 days after she was born I lost 14lb & was 8st 12 !! (she is now 13 weeks & I am STILL 8st 12, want to be 8st 4lb)

So, depends on water retention, I think that applied to me as I couldn't wear my wedding ring.

I have a theory about losing weight once you've had a period (I lost 5 lb in one week, but after 11 months)

Just don't overeat & watch your sugar intake (don't eat artifical sweetners instead though)

Mojomummy · 20/10/2006 23:42

2st 5lbs, not 2.5lbs !

sallymadge · 21/10/2006 11:39

Yes I think i might have water retention as my rings keep getting stuck on my finger, only 5 weeks to go now, so I guess that means I will lose a lot of weight in fluid.
