Hi I am a 12 year old girl, thirteen soon. I am quite slim and weigh around 6 st 10 lb and am 5 ft 1 in. When I wake up my stomach is completely flat, but before I go to bed I swear I look pregnant and I don't know why. I walk 30 miles a week and have a healthy balanced diet. Is this normal? Do I need to work up my stomach muscles to hold it in a bit more? I'm really desperate because my friends do not have this problem so I need advice!!!

Aw. You're only young sweetheart. You need to get your mum to go with you to the doctors to see if you have any food intolerances.

You're way too young to be worried about your tummy. Please don't compare yourself to your friends. Everyone is different, our bodies behave in different ways, we all mature at different rates, we all have different things we like or dislike about ourselves. You are fit and healthy and slender and you don't need to worry if your tummy sometimes sticks out a bit. Everyone's does. It's normal and natural and you mustn't start trying to change it or stop it from doing that because your body is developing and changing and you might hurt yourself.
If it really swells up a lot then Dowser is right it could be that your stomach is reacting to a certain food type and producing more gas or something. Talk to your mum about it, explain you're worried and ask if you can talk to the GP about it. If it only happens sometimes, you could try keeping a food diary to see if you notice any patterns. But really, try not to obsess about it because it is probably not half as bad as you think it is and by staring at it you will make it seem bigger than it actually is!

Thank you for advice! I don't think I have any food allergies but I think its worse after dairy or carbs. I'm going to try and lower my intake of those foods. Also I think I'll up my water intake as I don't drink enough. Thank you for the advice. I'll try and keep you updated with how it goes.
