Anyone else just eating healthier/less and moving more?

KnickKnome · 03/01/2015 21:58

I've tried every diet known to man (and done quite well on some- I was down 50 lbs before Christmas, though dreading seeing the damage an all inclusive holiday and Christmas has done!)

I've had enough of counting calories/points/syns or whatever. I'm fed up of following plans or drinking shakes. What I really want to do, after years of yo yo dieting, is to eat healthy stuff (not low fat stuff though) that excites me, in slightly smaller portions and do exercise that I enjoy. I want to cut down/out fizzy drinks (already cut these out), sugary foods, chocolate, processed stuff etc.

I not only want to lose weight, I want to lose it (and enjoy it whilst doing it) and maintain it. Yes it's a cliche, but I don't want to diet, I want a lifestyle change. I want to be able to go out to a restaurant for special occasions and not worry over how many syns/points etc the food will 'cost' me, but be able to enjoy it. I don't even know if this makes sense, but after spending so long on different plans, I'm so excited to just eat stuff that's not dictated to me, but stuff I think I should be eating.

I've just done a meal plan for next week, and an online food shop which has got me really excited to start (yes, I'm weird! Grin)

I still need to lose at least another 50 lbs. Does anyone want to join me?

Could I join please? I have a fifteen week old daughter and now weigh about the same as I did two weeks before giving birth (11 stone) I am breastfeeding her, and also don't want to calorie count etc.
Today I ate
Porridge for breakfast
Chicken wrap and salad for lunch
Scone with scrape of butter mid afternoon
Slice of toast with peanut butter (oops) at children's tea time
Small portion of ravioli for supper.

My problem is really with portion control. I struggle not to serve myself as big a portion as my husband ( who has a fantastic metabolism and can eat whatever he wants Sad). I'm also permanently knackered as Dc2 feeds at least once and usually twice in the night still. Being shattered means My willpower isn't as strong as it should be.
Exercise wise I am going to try to push the double buggy more during the week. I've joined a post natal exercise class and I'm trying to get out both weekend mornings on my own for a power walk of about 45mins. Fingers crossed this works otherwise I'm going to have to do a food delivery plan again like I did after dd1.(dealt with lack of willpower because I was so fed up with myself that I had to pay someone to sort out my portions that I stuck to the diet they delivered). Sorry for rambling.

lowcrabdiet · 31/01/2015 06:08

Hi Fifikt 10 come on in. Pushing a buggy is awesome exercise.

My DH had one of those amazing metabolisms until he hit about 32. Then it started to catch up with him And now he can't just chimp through a packet of biscuits without coconsequence. Is it wrong for me to be utterly gleeful a little bit pleased about that Wink

Silverjohnleggedit · 31/01/2015 06:34

Welcome fifikt, lowcrab is right, pushing a buggy is great exercise and the baby loves it, especially on those days when they are a bit restless screaming their heads off.

Last night I fell off the wagon.....

So I intended to have a few drinks, I did not intend to have lots of chocolate! On the plus side all the chocolate I had was organic and over 70% cocoa - that's practically a health food, isn't it? Downside - I cleared our supplies....probably a large bar but I did not go any further, I did not eat the lovely little Greek melt in the mouth biscuits that dd made during the week, and I did not eat the Twix or the After Eights or any of the sweets or ice cream and I stopped drinking and fell asleep. So bad but could have been and usually is a lot worse. Maybe the hypnosis is helping a bit.

We're out for dinner tonight in London to a lovely Indian, no pudding temptation but the pre-dinner cocktails will be more than enough indulgence for the evening.

lowcrabdiet · 31/01/2015 09:11

Aw that doesn't sound too bad Silverjohn you should be proud of yourself for reigning it in when you would previously have gone for the biscuits etc

We went out for dinner and bowling for dh's birthday last night. It wasn't grown up than it sounds, there is a recently opened, achingly pretentious cool restaurant and bowling alley nearby. The food was bloody lovely, and dh's bum doesn't half look lush when he's bending over to bowl Wink

But something has disagreed with me and I've spent half the night nursing stomach cramps. So today's menu looks like it will just be plain toast if anything at all Sad Is plain yogurt meant to be good for bad stomachs? That might be preferable to toast!

Hope you all have great weekends

lowcrabdiet · 31/01/2015 09:12
  • was more grown up
Sootball · 31/01/2015 11:36

I had some very good news yesterday so I did opt for 2 glasses of white wine. First drink I'd had since Christmas and this morning was not as pleasant as I'd hoped.

Fallen a little off the healthy eating campaign but still dutifully adding meals to mfp and my fitbit is highlighting to me just how much exercise it takes to lose any weight.

On the 30 th December I was 15st, I'm now 14.3 and I have promised myself non food rewards at 13.7, 13, 12.7, 12, 11.7 and 11 which is my goal I will hopefully hit by my 40th birthday in 2 years time.

lowcrabdiet · 31/01/2015 12:30

Wow, Sootball you are doing amazingly well. I'm seething with jealousy a little bit jealous.

Silverjohnleggedit · 31/01/2015 13:04

Pmsl @ lowcrab perving over her dh's bum. Hope you're feeling better. Mint tea might help - or a hot water bottle.
soot you're doing really well, why no treat at 14?

Sootball · 31/01/2015 13:58

Silver and crab thank you - I think the only reason that stone has come off so fast was because it was purely through spectacular overeating and in fact now I have started to manage portion control much better then it is coming off. I predict the rate will slow suddenly at 13.8 ish and it will be a long hard slog to lose the last stone for definite can you tell I have been here before?

I'm not rewarding at 14s because I amn so close and feel motivated for now. I have also recently bought the fitbit which to be fair was pretty expensive.

Silverjohnleggedit · 01/02/2015 13:43

Big cheer - I've just done a 20min run and I really enjoyed it and I didn't stop once! We'll say nothing about the sugar I feasted on last night except to say that I don't think the hypnosis is working!

AimlesslyPurposeful · 01/02/2015 15:15

A 20 minute run! Blimey, I don't think I could run non stop for 2 minutes. Well done you. Envy

11lbs off in a month is fab Sootball. Envy

You are lucky having a DH with a nice bum LowCrab. Mine has the arse of an old silverback gorilla. Envy

Anyway, moving swiftly on...

Exactly 10st this morning. Will I ever see 9st something on my scales ever again? Can someone come and lock my kitchen?

Haven't eaten anything yet today and am having a bit of an ulcerative colitis flare up so plan to have some fish, soup or scrambled eggs later but not hungry at the moment.

Hope everyone's weekend is going well food wise.

MrsHooolie · 01/02/2015 18:36

I made a cauliflower crust pizza today,it was gross!
Attempting a new chicken dish now from Anna Richardson's new book. I really like her recipes.

Silverjohnleggedit · 01/02/2015 18:49

Mrs Hoolie I felt exactly the same about the cauliflower crust. Had an amazing dinner - an Indian style roast. Dcs and their friends had sticky toffee pudding and ice cream and I resisted, actually wasn't even tempted, I hope I'm back on track.

lowcrabdiet · 01/02/2015 19:35

Sootball how are you finding the fitbit? I keep thinking about getting one, but not sure if thats coz I really want one or just because lots if other people have them now. What do you use yours for? Is it worth the hype?

Silverjohn HURRAH!!! it must have felt brilliant to run after the rubbish month you have had! I'm so impressed that you managed 20mins right off the bat too. Well done!

Aimlessly ulcerative colitis sounds painful! I hope your flare up subsides really soon.

My weekend has gone a bit to pot. My dodgy tummy went on until midday today and gave me a really odd appetite. I have no fruit or veg and but far too much toast and a large helping of chicken nuggets Confused

Anyway I seem to be back to normal now. My protein powder arrived so I will be trying that next week if I get stuck for breakfasts/Lunches. I must say I'm getting sick of the sight of poridge!

When I ordered the powder the website had a measuring tape on offer that is specifically made for measuring body parts (clearly it's meant for body builders to track their gains not frumpy mams to track their losses but what the hell. It works a treat so I'm gonna keep track of inches as well as weight because ultimately I'd like to get back to building muscles and I know that might make weight losses appear deceptive.

I also bought davina mccalls cook book and I'm gonna have a shot at making her sugar free brownies. It's my birthday in a couple of weeks and if they are any good,I'll make them again instead of a cake.

Can you tell it was pay weekend Wink

Ok DS seems to be asleep so I'm gonna sneek downstairs to do an exercise dvd

MrsHooolie · 01/02/2015 20:00

I don't think I could ever turn down a sticky toffee pudding. Good work!

Silverjohnleggedit · 01/02/2015 20:23

It's easy to turn down sugar while sober, the chalkenge us after a few glasses of wine and once I start I am unstoppable.

I bought a fibfit a couple if years ago. I used it daily for about 6 months, it did make me walk further and I got quite competitive and then I lost interest but I am fickle. Dh uses it now as an alarm clock - it vibrates in your wrist.

Silverjohnleggedit · 01/02/2015 20:24

God damn predictive text - challenge is

nevergooglebrandybutter · 01/02/2015 20:51

good going everyone. great run too I see.

I have had a baaad weekend. tired and ate badly. canceled Saturdays run in favour of rest so hopefully will be energized tomorrow instead.

Terramirabilis · 01/02/2015 23:55

Another half pound gone! Fell off the wagon yesterday with chocolate ice cream from a local producer. It was worth the calories though. My new goal is to break into the 140s (measuring in lbs not stone as am in the US) by the end of Feb. (So < 10s 10lb to save you working it out).

I was wondering if we should have a weekly weigh in day for motivation a la Weighwatchers?

AimlesslyPurposeful · 02/02/2015 02:03

Terra - Well done on your loss! We have a weigh in on Monday. I get on the scales every day but how much I've lost (Or not lost!) is determined by the Monday weigh in on this thread.

Had a slice of toast this evening followed by a bowl of soup and then, because I felt a bit empty just before bed, I stupidly had a few squares of chocolate which didn't hit the spot at all so then ate three slices of toast.

Hope the scales are kind in the morning!

Silverjohnleggedit · 02/02/2015 06:59

Gained 0.9kg. Shock

MrsHooolie · 02/02/2015 07:56

Argh silverjohn
Put it down to hormone levels or bloating ??.My scales haven't always gone down since starting this thing even without big binges.
I'm sure that extra bit wil disappear quickly.

MrsHooolie · 02/02/2015 07:57

I have woken up with swollen glands and sore throat. Not sure I can face my exercise dvd today,so tired.

Silverjohnleggedit · 02/02/2015 08:52

Or muscle gain from my 20min run Wink I'm back on it though - yesterday I only had dinner and wine.

Silverjohnleggedit · 02/02/2015 08:53

Hope you're not coming down with something Mrs hoolie
