Got a Fitbit for Xmas - anyone want to 'compete'?

I'm 9 weeks postnatal and looking to get this flabby backside into shape - DH bought me a Fitbit for Xmas which has been surprisingly motivating so far! I don't know anyone else who has one and thought others might be in same boat. Post here if so and we can get cracking on reaching our targets!

I have been thinking about buying one with some xmas money. Which kind have you got and what does it measure exactly? Do you sinc it with MFP?

SummerDreams13 · 30/12/2014 21:31

I've got a Fitbit One - through my iPhone app or online I can see how many steps taken, calories burnt, equivalent floors climbed and active minutes throughout the day. I've synced it to mfp so logging food through mfp and mfp takes into account how many calories burnt through the Fitbit. Seems quite effective so far Grin

Hi, I got a FitBit for Christmas too. PM me your email address and I'll try and add you. I'm aiming for 15,000 steps per day.

bakingtins · 31/12/2014 19:55

I got a fitbit one at the end of November and would appreciate a bit of incentive to use it. I haven't synced it to MFP but willing to give that a go. I am 7m postnatal and have lost most of the weight then lost motivation. I think I need to lose about 10 ob but will weigh in and see what the damage from Christmas is tomorrow.

SkyHighWhy · 01/01/2015 00:52

I have one! I need to lose a little weight to help reduce my blood pressure. I bought Weight Watcher's scales and am apparently losing about 1 lb a week through cutting down and taking more exercise, ie walking more. The FitBit is helping: I find it incredibly addictive! I have a FitBit Flex, which you wear on your wrist.

I haven't used MFP at all. Will I get more out of my FitBit if I also follow MFP?

This whole fitness lark is new to me ... well done to those who are tackling the post-baby weight. As my youngest is 20 I have to find another excuse for being overweight Grin!

postmanpatsnewyearresolution · 01/01/2015 12:51

I love my Fitbit! I recommend using MFP too. If anyone wants to add me I am snailrunner on MFP and hopefully this will take you to my Fitbit page.

Julius02 · 01/01/2015 14:14

I bought a Fitbit flex earlier this week and love it so far - I need to lose a couple of stone before April so need to get moving more and start eating healthily. Have never used MFP but will try it and see if I can work out how to synch it with the Fitbit.

Would be great to have support from others to keep me motivated!

I'd appreciate advice from anyone using MFP/fitbit about setting nutrition goals. MFP says my calorie use is about 1700, fitbit when I am walking my 15000 steps says 18-1900. Neither of them allow for breastfeeding which is supposed to be 'up to' 500 cals a day, presumably a bit less as Dd has one FF and is having some solids, though she still BF a lot. Guesstimate 300-350 cals? To lose 1lb a week which I'd be perfectly happy with I need a deficit of 500 cals a day. MFP is suggesting 1200 cals a day which just isn't enough, so I'm going to have to manually adjust it. My estimate for use including BF is 2000-2250 a day so does 1500 seem like a good starting point?

SummerDreams13 · 04/01/2015 12:11

Baking, I'm def no expert but 1500 is a reasonable target for me when not BF and trying to lose weight, so i'm aiming for 1800 a day as I'm exclusively BF. I personally wouldn't go any lower as I think it could start to dry up supply and also might send your body into shock mode aka storing more fat iyswim. Be good to hear other viewpoints though! Anyone who wants to compete, PM me your email and I'll try and add you. Did a long walk with bubs and DH on NY day and got to 15k steps - can't tell you how good it felt! Such good motivation!

Thanks summer I'm going with 1600 for the moment which is allowing myself 400 Bf calories on top of the 1200 that MFP recommends for my weight/height. I can eat 3 sizeable meals on that. I've not used MFP before, prev did Sw to lose baby weight. It is interesting to see where the calories are creeping in. We often have veg soup and bread for lunch, I was restrained at 2 slices of bakery bread today rather than half a loaf but that's still 450 cals and made my 'light lunch' of soup, bread and a yoghurt 700 cals....Easy enough to see why bread is my downfall.

postmanpatsnewyearresolution · 04/01/2015 20:34

baking I think 1600 is a good number, I never use 1200 as it just isn't enough IMO whether you are breastfeeding or not (and my youngest is 15 so I'm definitely not!)

twinkle183 · 05/01/2015 15:48

Finally got my fitbit flex today so will be starting tomorrow.... Happy to have anyone add me as a friend!!! Mfp name is the same as here... Have about 2 1/2 - 3 stone to loose! X

bakingtins · 21/01/2015 15:16

Hi everyone. I have massively fallen off the Fitbit wagon this week, spent most of it in hospital with DD, would be surprised if I managed 15k steps the whole week. next week shaping up to be similar but then I'll get back on it.

Sootball · 22/01/2015 22:50

Can I have some fitbit friends? I need the motivation!

bakingtins I hope your daughter is home very soon x

Sootball · 28/01/2015 10:55

Bump

bakingtins · 28/01/2015 11:21

Thank you. She is out of hospital but we are still having to go in a few times a week. Just about managed to average 10,000 steps in the last week. I have PM'd you my email address.

hi can I join? I love my fitbit but been on a course this week and done barely 2000 steps each day! ! back to it tomorrow

lljkk · 28/01/2015 19:34

My Flex says I did 15.5k steps today. Hmm
I reckon I did max half that. In need of serious calibration.

twinkle183 · 28/01/2015 20:12

Me, me.. (waves hand) please add me!! I also got a fitbit flex for xmas and have been wearing it almost everyday.. on the days when I am work I have to wear it in my pocket! I am on MFP as well as twinkle183. PM your addresses so I can add as I really need a kick up the bum to get this weight loss under control.

Sootball · 29/01/2015 13:55

There is a mumsnet fitbit group - I am fatalice!

lljkk · 30/01/2015 13:01

Has anyone else precisely measured their stride length? I am 80.6 cm.

I sat thru half hour of biochemistry lecture yesterday (whoosh, over my head). So I jiggled my leg impatiently and Fitbit recorded about 600 steps. Not Impressed.

It's also useless at recording whether I'm asleep or awake. Have decided to leave it on a table when I'm indoors unless I'm doing something active (like vacuuming).

Sootball · 30/01/2015 19:36

Mine is a bit pants at recording sleep time, although it has proved I'm not getting enough!

felttippens · 14/02/2015 20:18

How do I join the mumsnet group on fitbit x

AnotherGirlsParadise · 22/02/2015 19:51

My Fitbit Zip should be arriving on Wednesday (weirdly excited!). As soon as I've figured out how to sync it to MFP etc, I'd love to join you all!
