Hi I was wondering if anyone had been referred by their GP for example to weight watchers and how did you find it? Did it work?

I have an appoinment soon and was looking for some advice.

Thanks

Watching this thread with interest.

I was going to book an appointment to find out about this. I think you can get a referral to a local sports centre for exercise advice and subsidised classes/gym membership - I'm not sure whether this is a local or national initiative.

Yes I did, it was great. It made me feel that I had to go every week, because someone else was checking up on me IYSWIM. Left to my own devices I'd have come up with excuses after a few weeks I'm sure! Grin Grin

My nurse told me it was available to anyone with a bmi over 30, not sure if it's a local or national initiative.

Bored of football could you tell us more please? Did you do the weight watchers?

Sorry I've been away for a few days!

I'm in Wales, not sure if it was just a local initiative. It was for women with bmi of over 30 who were trying to conceive or already had children.
Rather than my doctor referring me I just had to call a number that was advertised in the surgery waiting room.
It was for 12 weeks free at weight watchers, all the information came through really quickly and I just had to pick which group I wanted to go to. The leader at my group obviously knew that I'd been referred but she never mentioned it to me, you're just treated the same as everyone else.

I highly recommend it as a kick start for weight loss, after those 12 weeks you'll be seeing results and it's easier to motivate yourself to keep going.
