And is it to do with dress size or what?

I don't understand 'build'. I get weighed at Boots and the machine asks what build I am to assess what ideal weight I should be. I always put medium???

I would say that I am large framed (alas, will never look dainty, however thin I am). I have large hands and large feet (size 7), broad shoulders and lots of muscle. I am 5'9" and look slim at 11 st. At 10st 10lb I look quite ill, and that still gives me a BMI of 23. So I naturally suit being at the larger end of the spectrum weight wise.

Bad thing is though that if you start at 11 st something and then get pg (I am 15 weeks) your weight will look quite depressing written down. I therefore refuse to be weighed for the duration of the pregnancy. I did treat myself last time and I was 14 1/2 stone when I delivered!!

dinny · 02/10/2006 12:56

so is it foot size? hand size? I've got biggish feet (7) and big hands but really narrow wrists/hips/ankles. am asking as dh thinks I am a weird hybrid and says my feet look like those big clown shoes compared to legs.

I think it is to do with your wrists, will try and find. Something like if you put thumb and middle finger round your wrist and they touch/overlap then certain build..

CountessDracula · 02/10/2006 13:03

here

joelallie · 02/10/2006 13:05

A wrist size of more than 7" gives you a large build I beleive. Haven't got a tape measure with me or I'd check. Whatever it is I have a large build and will always be big not matter how thin I get. Broad shoulders, very tall - should have been a Russian shot-putter. Always wanted to be a dainty little thing

dinny · 02/10/2006 13:25

thanks for that, CD - that makes me small frame as 5.6 1/2 and wrist is 6"... so maybe I am odd as feet are a seven and really wide!

Joelallie - think I remember reading a post where you said you were 5.11...? that is tall - bet you look really slender and glam!

sooo, does a small build mean you can weigh less than someone of same height then?

auntymandy · 02/10/2006 13:26

fat

flack · 02/10/2006 13:30

Why does it matter, dinny? My answer was (whispers before she gets stoned) "hourglass", but don't know if that's to the right question.

dinny · 02/10/2006 14:30

Flack - dh been telling me am v odd shape (charming) as has have disproportionately large wide feet! so he says...

NotQuiteCockney · 02/10/2006 14:31

Ha ha ha ha. My wrist is 6". I am 5'6". So I am small-framed, apparently.

I have massive shoulders, I wear size 9 shoes, and I'm quite muscly besides. I am by no measure small-framed!

Enid · 02/10/2006 14:34

I would have said 'sturdy'

but aspparentlyu I am 'medium'

JessaJackOLantern · 02/10/2006 14:36

I just fall into medium. Am 5 3 on a tall day and have 6 inch wrist. I do have small hands and feet, but they are small not dainty. I am short, not petite if that makes sense!

lazycow · 02/10/2006 15:43

So does being 5ft 7", having feet size 81/2 (sometimes 9) feet and 8" wrist make me enormous then ?. And this is after I lost 4stone !!

Actually build really is as important as height - my friend who is the same height as me and weighs exactly the same (we both went to weightwatchers together so I know) looks more overweight than I do. Problem is my target weight is the same as hers but I know that is too low for me.

The numbers do look depressing though. I actually looked pretty OK at 12 stone (size 12/14) which is what I weighed the first time I got married. Most people would feel positively fat at that weight even at 5ft 7

bossykate · 02/10/2006 15:47

renaissance painting...

lazycow · 02/10/2006 15:48

Actually my wrist size is 7.5" not 8" I read it wrong - still rated as large for men though - let alone women. No wonder bracelets never fit me

dinny · 02/10/2006 20:33

ah, Bossykate, not seen you around for ages..where's your alter ego gone then?
