Not so much a weight loss but an exercise one. What is the definitive exercise to prevent/eliminate/STOP these 'Bye Bye' arms - or do I have to wave like a 2 year-old from now on?

Known as bingo wings up 'ere Tinker.

You need that one at the gym you know where you bring your elbows together with weights.

Far to much like hard work. Could try lifting a few pints or glasses of wine.

Twink · 06/04/2004 12:42

You need to sort out your triceps. Have a look at this which gives a couple of exercises to help.

Otherwise Google 'flabby upper arms' gives loads of ideas.

Oooohhh dinner ladies arms!!

Apparently - as Oprah has found out to her peril the only thng that really works is SURGERY!! AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!

Tinker · 06/04/2004 12:42

Gym? What is this gym that you speak of? Oh, for the days when these thoughts never crossed my mind.

Sorry, Googling.

Tinker · 06/04/2004 12:44

Thought surgery was a no-go cos of all the blood vessels - not quite at that stage yet.

Knew Twink would come to rescue.

Ok then 'specially for you Tinker, a lying down exercise:

Lie on your back with knees bent, ideally on a bench, feet near bum. Hold a full (sealed !) beer bottle in each hand (full size not mini bottles of Stella).

Straighten your arms out above chest, then move arms out to the sides, bending elbows so your upper arms are parallel with floor and return to start.

Other one is same starting position but lower arms behind top of head (don't drop the bottles)

Much easier to demonstrate than explain !

I used to have a teacher " fatty m" was her name and when she rubbed the board all her fat would wobble. When I taught I would tense my arms to avoid this happening!

The exercises in Twink's post are very effective. I would recommend joining a BodyPump class, if you are anything like me, lack motivation and need somebody shouting at you. BodyPump exercises and tones all the muscle groups but there is an entire track devoted to triceps.

spacemonkey · 06/04/2004 13:35

bingo wings here in essex too and I've got them too

Janh · 06/04/2004 13:36

Carol Vorderman has them too so it's probably a lost cause. (She'd get rid if anyone could).

Sonnet · 06/04/2004 13:52

swimming - breast stroke - will help.
Had flabby upper arms all my life and when I was into sawimming a couple of years back they firmed up incredibly well - although did take about 6 months of swimming 3 times per week before i noticed

Tinker · 06/04/2004 15:46

Thanks for all the tips. Sadly, can't swim, so can't do that one Yes, should really go to a class. If I try to do anything at home, even just getting into the lying down position seems too much effort. Carol Vorderman would have brought a video out if she knew the answer. So, beer it is then.

Or bat wing jumpers. Would go for beer meself.
