How much weight did you lose by giving up alcohol?

Just that really.

I have had to admit to myself that I have a beer belly and it needs to go!.

Please tell me how much you lost in a month (or more) by giving up booze; either on its own or in addition to MFP or something.

Thank you!.

I gave up alcohol 3 months ago and have lost 32 lbs. it has made a massive difference, not only the alcohol calories themselves but the lack of hangover eating and having the energy to exercise consistently

MrsBoldon · 03/08/2014 08:13

Wow skippy! That's seriously impressive. Well done!.

I'm not sure it's going to make me more likely to exercise as I am very avoidant but it should definitely make a difference in terms of calories and yes, eating a vat of pasta while hungover!.

Fingers crossed!.

You might surprise yourself w the exercise! Good luck with it, it's the best thing I have ever done for myself

goldrabbit · 03/08/2014 09:35

Hi OP.

Wow skippy that is amazing!

I drank a lot on Thursday but nothing but a beer since, which is highly unusual for me. I usually have a bottle of wine or more on Friday and Saturday nights, sometimes Sunday too.

I'm never up this time on a Sunday usually (no DC! Grin), more like midday, and we're about to go for a walk. Wondering if I can really cut back on the booze as I definitely need to lose weight.

goldrabbit · 03/08/2014 09:41

Sorry OP, that wasn't sharing my experience at all, just wanted to join you! Am thinking about going to weight watchers as mfp doesn't really work for me, or doesn't seem to.

MrsBoldon · 03/08/2014 10:14

Hi Gold! We can both see how it goes. I worked out I drink about a whole days calories in booze a week (cringe) so giving it up even for a month should make some difference?!.

nothing, but i wasnt trying

Mustangspirit · 03/08/2014 10:33

I stopped drinking 6 weeks ago and have lost a stone! No change of diet or exercise, still do none Blush

The first few weeks my weight hardly changed and I was disappointed but it has started to drop off now so do persevere. Yes to more energy and being up, ready to start the day bright and early. I didn't drink daily btw. I'm just one of those that can never have "just the one".

MrsBoldon · 03/08/2014 12:17

A stone! I don't really need to lose much more than 1.5 stone so that would be brilliant!.

I stopped drinking 3 weeks ago and haven't lost a pound! Several years ago I stopped drinking for 12 months - still not a pound off. I don't get it. I don't replace the wine with high calorie soft drinks, maybe a cup of tea or water. When I think of how many calories I must consume in wine it doesn't make sense.

amyhamster · 04/08/2014 10:44

To stop myself drinking I let myself eat more treats like chocolate so it doesn't help !

gamerchick · 04/08/2014 10:48

It drops loads off me as well, especially as it knot a big eater anyway.

Definitely worth giving up. I know they say go onto vodka and stuff but that doesn't really help with the carb fest that is necessary the day afterwards.

gamerchick · 04/08/2014 10:48

*I'm not

isabellnecessary · 04/08/2014 10:53

I lost a stone in 6 weeks when I stopped drinking because I found out I was pg.

Joey8 · 14/08/2014 17:18

I don't drink anymore either and find it definitely helps in keeping my weight in check.

I've lost about 4 stone so far (over a period of years) but that was with healthy diet and exercise too.

Sometimes I don't think people realise just how many calories and sugar there is in alcoholic drinks and when do people drink? (you hope) in the evening- and having all those extra calories in the evening can't be good!

Especially as people have said, you go on a binge / hangover eat the next day!

I say definitely go for it! It doesn't mean you can never drink - maybe reserve it for special occasions :-)
