How do you measure your body fat percentage?

Hi

I do circuit training and have been really working on trying to lower my body fat percentage as I find that the most useful measurement. I started at 33.5% and last time I was measured I was 28.3%. I find that really motivating. My trainer has stopped measuring it for clients though so I need to find another way.

I've looked into scales and electronic devices that pass a current through your body but the general consensus seems to be that they are massively inaccurate and can vary by as much as 10% depending on how much fluid or food you have in your body and when you last exercised.

Calipers seem to be the most accurate affordable way of doing it (this is how my trainer measured it) but you need someone to help you do it and it's really hard to pick exactly the same spots to measure each time and to apply the same amount of pressure.

Does anyone know how else I can get it measured?

Calipers are the most accurate way. I go and see someone who does this for me. Not sure there is another way but you could buy the calumets and get your dh to do it ( it probably comes with a guide)

Yes, scales are inaccurate, but if you do it at the same time every week it'll give you a picture of if you've moved.

Monday morning, after a wee, for me! I took the initial number the first time I did it with a pinch of salt, but am pleased to see movement in the right direction Smile

(Your point about having someone who's trained to use callipers is a good one)
