Anyone tried being hypnotised?

I've been struggling with my weight for close to a decade. I have depression and anxiety and have tried many, many ways to loose weight but I have a real emotional connection with food and can't break my cycle of being depressed because I'm overweight and then eating because I'm sad that I'm fat. :(

I have been trying so long to do it and yoyoing that I've lost all confidence that I can loose weight.

I just don't know where to turn. The place I'm going to is the highest rated place in the North West so I'm confident its a real trustworthy establishment.

I've tried slimming groups. Vlcds. Wws slimming world. I really don't know where else to turn.

It didnt work

Im still fat

ChittinIt · 15/07/2014 22:02

Well there's nothing that works for everyone and I know it won't make me loose weight, but I'm hoping it can give me confidence in my ability and help break some of my negative connections.

I was hypnotised just today about weight loss - the minute I left I felt the old compulsions to eat come back but I am fighting them (so far). I am in NW as well so interested where you are going so highly scored?

I went to a local place mainly as easy to get to and she successfully stopped me biting my nails.. but my feeling is really it has all been down to willpower not the actual hypnosis ..

ChittinIt · 15/07/2014 22:07

Its the Manchester hypnotherapy place in didsbury.

fab - good luck! I should say that since I left her (very lovely) practice, I ate a small dinner and not snacked once... nothing short of miracle.. now to ensure it happens ever day - look forward to hearing how you get on!

Lovaal · 15/07/2014 22:22

I've had successful hypnotherapy for fear of flying and smoking cessation. I highly recommend it for both of those.
However, I've tried it twice in the last 20 years - several sessions with two different therapists - for weight loss and it didn't help at all.
Will be interested to follow the thread.

CarolBornAMan · 15/07/2014 22:22

not at all strange - very relaxing and in some ways really nice to openly discuss issues and concerns with some one who understands. I had hypnosis before with some success, hence giving it a go. I would say go with very open mind and listen carefully during the hypnosis as it is very tailored messaging ...

CarolBornAMan · 15/07/2014 22:25

agree on mixed success - had it to conquer anxiety over driving and to cure nail biting - worked well for me. Also did try 15 years ago for weight loss but with no success. However, I think I am in a better place now to focus on weight loss than then - hypnosis is not the absolute solution - it is just another tool to help support the changes needed to help lose weight .. I feel ready to focus and this is just a way to help address the bad habits I am in and to reverse some negative thinking that sabotages me

Lovaal · 15/07/2014 22:30

I agree, Carol, its not just about the hypnosis itself. By the way, I'm in the NW too, so will be very interested to hear your progress.

CarolBornAMan · 15/07/2014 22:32

yes happy to share - I guess external interest in progress is another way to keep me on straight and hopefully narrower!!

CarolBornAMan · 16/07/2014 20:29

So ChillinIt, how did you get on.. I have had a very good day - no snacking or mindless eating, went for a run with my trainer and am sat here smugly content .. for now!!

Sinfandel · 30/07/2014 21:51

I'm keen to know how you're both getting on now, a couple of weeks later?

CarolBornAMan · 31/07/2014 10:17

Hi - thanks for asking - am going OK! I knew this would not be a lose a stone in a week programme but I am changing my eating habits which is what I wanted - I could graze all day but this has been stopped and so have lost a few pounds already but most of all feel free of a bad habit.. I am aware it is easy to slip though and so think will be going back for some reminder sessions just to keep me strong in early days of breaking a habit.. I keep looking at my nails for inspiration - i gave up biting them after hypnotherapy and they look fab - so damn sure the rest of me will do to!

Sinfandel · 01/08/2014 16:01

It sounds as if you're doing really well Carol. Changing your eating habits is what will stay with you in the long term, rather than just dropping loads of weight really quickly. It sounds really positive so far. Well done.

nicename · 01/08/2014 16:08

I used to treat people - weight management was the trickiest for some reason! Our society is very food focussed!

It takes a lot of willpower. Hyopnotherapy can shove you in the right direction but it is all down to willpower and substituting somethinb else for the food (so finding the 'something' you want more than the food - fitness, size 12 dress, health, etc).
