Fit bit calories

Can anyone help please? Yesterday my fitbit registered a calorie burn of 3000, which sounds great but I only did 6500 steps. I've had days where I've walked 15 to 20000 and it's said 2200 to 2500, which seems far more reasonable. I lost it for a while and have only just started wearing it again, plus I updated the software, so I suppose it could be down to that. Can anyone suggest a fix? I know I can stop it altering my calories on mfp, but that was the whole point!

Did you have a lot of active minutes registered? Other than it being broken, that's the only thing I can think of that would give you a bigger calorie burn for less steps.

Bizarrely it seems ok today. If it goes funny again I'll bring it up with fitbit.

My fitbit did not register all my active minutes one day, basically said I'd done zero when I had done at least 60. It caught up with itself the following day, just a glitch.
