Just read this morning that 'too much fruit can make you fat!' I really hope this isn't the case as I'm not eating much at all apart from salads and soup with the occasional slice of bread but I eat quite a lot of fruit to fill myself up.

I will more than likely eat 2 apples, 1 banana, 2 tangerines, handful of raspberries etc etc.

I try and eat raw veg in my salads like broccoli and cauli and carrots and cabbage, celery etc.

This has worried me, now I think I'm never going to lose weight because I eat loads of fruit :(

I'm doing a bit of walking (with 9MO DD strapped to my back) the route I do, twice a day is down hill on the way there but up hill on the way back (steep up hill).

Please someone reassure me I can lose weight doing what I'm doing, I jut keep reason things that make me think I can't do anything roght

and weight is just a number - at the end of the day you know you aren't 8 stone Wink . It does give real evidence of it working.

Ha ha! Yes thats what people want to believe that eating too much fruit makes you fat and if only I could cut out that dreaded fruit I'd be wafer thin!

Everyone's body is a little different and everyones brain is a little different. If you have 5st to lose then teh diet which will work for you will be the one that you can sustain week in week out making small changes and losing about 1-2kilos per month

Short of gastric surgery or drugs thats the only way that people have lost weight long term, finding the diet that works for them and plodding away at it whilst adding a little more exercise.

Of course thats tougher than it sounds.

Kewcumber · 17/05/2014 17:57

If you were trying to lose 7 lbs to your ideal weight then maybe eating too many bananas/pineapples/grapes might make a difference.

Kewcumber · 17/05/2014 17:57

How long did it take you to put the weight on? It should take you a similar time to get it all off.

Joules68 · 17/05/2014 18:03

Eat as much fruit as you like!??dangerous advice.

Kewcumber · 17/05/2014 18:06

Yes avoid that dangerous fruit. That's most peoples problem when losing weight - fruit...

PassAFist · 17/05/2014 18:10

OP, what is a daily menu like for you? Is it possible that you are not eating enough food?

Joules68 · 17/05/2014 18:18

In fact any 'diets' which advocate 'eat as much as you like' are dangerous.

JohnnyDeppsfuturewife · 17/05/2014 18:23

I would agree with kewcumber, we're all unique and need to find a way to lose weight and sustain that loss that suits us.

I have lost over 60lbs using mfp. I eat lots of fruit and I think the people on my weightloss thread do too. For example if I want a snack then i do find apples and bananas filling and easy to eat if I'm on the go and perhaps might have had a cake or crisps before. I also like to finish a meal with melon or pineapple or berries with a couple of tablespoons of plain yogurt.

I have cut down on other carbs and sugars considerably so I definitely think carbs (pasta, potatoes, bread) were a problem for me before.

evelynj · 17/05/2014 20:03

Well I have 5 stone odd to lose-lost 2stone 6 lb so far with slimming world in 3 months. I find it easy to follow tho I love bad food & drink so have some v bad nights here & there.

I know I won't ever be perfectly healthy but eating fruit is better than cake! OP, try not to worry & either get some scales or start weighing yourself once a week somewhere-if I didn't have the scales I certainly wouldn't be so motivated or know how far I'd come already so it's important for your self esteem. Also take your measurements as losing inches is probably what you're really after, (well I am-I'd be happy being 20 stone if I was a perfect size 10 ;)

Good luck on your journey-it's a marathon, not a sprint!

Kewcumber · 17/05/2014 20:12

And OP hasn't said she isn't losing weight - she doesn't actually know!

Lizzylou · 17/05/2014 20:14

Kewcucumber is absolutely, totally, talking the truth Smile
Just very sensible and a refreshing change from the different plans banging their own drums!

prawnypoos · 17/05/2014 21:14

Yes, bread was a big problem for me - I have switched to brown bread and, at the very most, 2 slices a day!

I used to eat crumpets - loads of them lathered in butter and loads of white toast too! But have stopped that. The kids eat the brown bread and it doesn't bother them.

Today has been hard, I've still been good but I felt kind of resentful that DP, DSD and DD were tucking into sausage butties whilst I was eating tomato and basil soup with no bread - it was nice though and filled me up - had a massive salad for lunch too. Plenty of leafy salad

'dangerous advice' pmsl Grin . It's fruit not cocaine! !!!!

tobysmum77 · 17/05/2014 22:17

op what is true is different things work for different people. As a result an Internet forum will give highly confusing advice.

Joules68 · 17/05/2014 22:18

The eat all you like bit is the bad bit. Wasn't referring exclusively to fruit, obviously! Someone upthread mentioned it with regards to ww

Joules68 · 17/05/2014 22:19

Eat as mych as you like is also part of the 'slimming world' philosophy..... So on green days it was unlimited pasta Hmm

JohnnyDeppsfuturewife · 17/05/2014 22:41

Sorry you had a hard day prawnypoos. You did really well. Ihope your evening is going well. I did lots of housework in the early days and painted my nails a lot as I found I wanted to snack more at night.

How old are your dcs? Do they ask for things like sausages? In the beginning i changed all our diets so I never had to watch them tuck into something that I wanted but my dcs were preschool so didn't notice. That sounds a bit cruel but I allocated portions differently so if we ate the same thing I would have a mountain of veg and minimal carbs. I didn't want to tell them I was on a diet either and it worked, they didn't notice. And I used recipes from the hairy bikers diet cookbook which didn't feel like diet food.

tobysmum77 · 17/05/2014 22:46

I'm still confused about why its dangerous. Slimming world works for many people? Confused Isn't it about eating till you are no longer hungry rather v than a whole kilo of pasta? It may not have worked for you. ww worked for me, well if I can stop losing on maintenance but that's a different issue and may get me a Biscuit Grin .

Kewcumber · 17/05/2014 22:55

you could choke on a grape?

Kewcumber · 17/05/2014 22:56

I think "eat as much as you like" should be better phrased as "You can eat as much as you need" I don;t think its intended to be taken as a dare...

Whitershadeofpale · 17/05/2014 23:00

Weight watchers doesn't say you can eat as much as you like , fruit and most veg is just points free as long as you stick to 5 portions a day any more than that and you have to count it.

WW works for me but I'm no zealot, I think any way of eating or plan that says you can eat as much as you like isn't going to be beneficial in the long term.

Joules68 · 18/05/2014 00:04

Why would you need to count it on we then? It's fruit....oh,wait..

Joules68 · 18/05/2014 00:04
