I am going to lose this 2 stone, for good!!

FlossyMcgrew · 03/03/2014 12:19

I will be taking "after" pictures on July 1st.

I took before pictures yesterday and they are awful. I have at least 2 stone to lose. I have joined other threads here before, with some success. Then quit after getting halfway to my goal and gaining everything back in half the time it took me to lose it.

I am 5 foot 6, have been wavering around the 12 stone mark since having my 2 dc within 13 months. Youngest is now 2.

In my "before" pictures (which I won't post until I get to post them with my afters!). It is painfully obvious that nearly all of my weight is around my middle. This is particularly worrying as my family history is full of diabetes, heart problems, cancer, strokes- you name it.

My plan is this:

MFP to track my calories

30 day shred or alternate 30 min workout 5 times a week

More conscious eating. Re-reading Paul McKenna, "I Can Make You Thin."

Easy on the carbs. My current 2 slices of toast breakfast, 2 slice of bread sandwich and crisps lunch, and insert random carb heavy dinner here, is doing me and my middle no favours.

Drink more water. At least 4 pint glasses per day.

Chew gum instead of mindless snacking.

No baking. I can think up any excuse to bake, and then of course I have to test my product--no more!

And that is basically it.....

I am hoping that I can make all of these things my new way of life, rather than a diet.

I am tired of hating myself in every picture.

I am tired of refusing to buy new clothes in this size, and looking like a slob as all of my clothes are old and don't fit properly.

I want to be healthy and I want to be here for my kids for as long as possible.

I want to be a good example for my kids.

I would like to feel attractive again.

I am going to check in here at least once a week. Monday morning weigh in to keep me honest over the weekends. Please feel free to join me, or cheer me on.

I don't want to be a diet bore in real life so I am going to use this thread for my rambling instead.

So here goes......

Week 1

Please do anothernumberone!

And Funky I'd say that's a great result--almost 4 pounds in less than 2 weeks, well done!! They say that's a good target, 1-2 lbs a week. I hope that's right, as I have 16 weeks until my after pictures, eek!

I am visualizing the new me: wearing cute clothes that fit properly, not self conscious, no double chin, smaller healthy waistline, happy, healthy and active.

Right then I am going to do it thanks Flossy. I was going great guns before Christmas but life completely got in the way. I want to attack once and for all. This is as bad as it has been for me.

FlossyMcgrew · 09/03/2014 08:40

I am the same anothernumberone, but think of it this way, before Christmas wasn't that long ago, 4 months, and if we are diligent this time and don't give up, we can be at our goal in the same amount of time! 4 months will fly by. I am sure at times it will crawl, but before we know it we can be the success stories, I can't wait!

Hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine today!

Good luck :)

OP I am in the same situation as you except im an inch taller and just the one baby. I dread to think what weight I would be after two babies Grin

According to the S trainer app on my new phone I will successfully shed two stone by the 18th August if I consume 2100 calories per day and burn 580 calories per day, equating to a weight loss of 1.1 pound per week.

Seems easy doesn't it? I'm just finding it impossible to lose weight whilst breastfeeding. The water retention is insane.

I am looking at trying the paleo (sp?) diet. Well, at least some of the concepts such as cutting out grains and upping the vegetables. My diet currently involves alot of grains and dairy and it just seems to make the bloating worse.

A pound a week... doesn't seem so bad does it?

RunningKatie · 09/03/2014 18:46

I'm aiming for a pound a week, it's been hard this weekend - been out to places that serve bacon cobs, i really fancied one but restrained myself. This had better work!

I've not shredded this weekend but today i did 5.5 miles on the bike at the gym, then we did a walk and i carried ds in a sling so classing that as weight training Wink

How often do you all weigh yourself? I've got into the bad.habit of weighing daily which i don't think is helping.

FunkyBarnYard · 09/03/2014 19:02

I weigh on Saturday morning before breakfast but after a wee GrinGrin

AnnaDoreta · 09/03/2014 19:45

Hello! Welcome to all the new people.

I weigh in on a Monday so will be interesting to see how I get on tomorrow.

I've definitely been eating much less bit some unhealthy fatty things do still creep into my diet. I guess that as long as I'm making improvements to my diet that's got to be a good thing.

I've done so many diets in the past and have always put the weight back on. Now I'm trying the theory of changing things slowly (and logging them on MFP so I'm more aware) and not really being on any specific diet, then I might be able to sustain it in the long term. I know the weight will come off more slowly. I'm not in any hurry.

Hope all Monday weighers have a good result.

FlossyMcgrew · 09/03/2014 21:34

Evening everyone!

Hi colafrosties I have also lost some post dc, was about 1.5 stone lighter last may, as I was a bridesmaid. Then basically completely relaxed, ate and drank whatever I wanted that wedding week and then didn't get back on track and it all came back. Nightmare that it comes back so easily.

I didn't lose ANY weight from breastfeeding nirishma, I felt as though I'd been duped! :) I have heard great things about paleo, I think it's the basic "clean" eating, avoid processed foods idea isn't it? A pound a week definitely seems do-able. Hopefully by changing our habits rather than doing anything drastic, we can all keep it off.

RunningKate I have chosen Monday as my weigh in day. I will weigh in the am, also before breakfast and after wee--every little helps! But must admit I do sneak peeks throughout the week, but only ever in the morning,I have heard your weight can fluctuate so much throughout the day, but morning is lowest, and that's the one I want to see :)
I like your "weight training."

My 3 year old actually weighs about the amount I would like to lose. Which sometimes feels a bit overwhelming, as I can't carry him for very long these days--except I AM carrying that amount all the time, but not for much longer.

Hi Anna I am really working on being extremely honest and accurate with MFP, and in doing so, it begins to make sense how I got to where I am! Good luck to you tomorrow morning. The thought of my weigh in is keeping me away from biscuits right now!

Good luck everyone.

Hello, I'd like to join you all as well, please!
I'm 5'4" and hovering around 11st 12lbs. I 'should' be about 10st, but the closest I've been to that since kids was 4 years ago, between the two boys, when I got down to 10st 7lbs.

I eat healthily, but need to cut down on my portion sizes and I dramatically need to up my exercise, which has been totally destroyed by colds and asthma up until now this year (soggy, yucky, cold winter).

Food wise, I'm planning to do 16:8 fasting and cut down on carbs in my evening meal.
Exercise wise, I'm starting with some gentle bike rides, a swim and (once this latest sodding cold has shifted) back onto The Shred with my old pal Jillian.

I'll be weighing in on Monday mornings, post-wee of course. Fingers crossed for tomorrow...

AnnaDoreta · 10/03/2014 07:06

Fluffy it is frightening how many calories are in same things. I always thought I was pretty aware of this kind of thing but I'm clearly not as well informed as I thought I was

I also agree with the clean eating and am so good about this with my kids (although they do have the odd treat too) but just don't seem to be able to do the same for me. Must try harder!

Anyway - had my weigh in this morning and I've lost 1.5lbs so I'm really pleased. I've got my oats and greek yoghurt for breakfast and soup for lunch, so with some fruit for snacks, I'm all set for a good day at work - if I can avoid the cakes which always seem to be lurking!!

Look forward to hearing everyone else's results this morning.

AnnaDoreta · 10/03/2014 07:07

Oh my goodness, I have a total inability to properly remember nicknames on here - Flossy
I drive myself round the bend!

FunkyBarnYard · 10/03/2014 07:13

Well done Anna!

FlossyMcgrew · 10/03/2014 09:17

Welcome Bimblebops that's the first I've heard of 16:8, heard of 5:2, 3:4 etc. I try to avoid eating late, but may try and be more strict about it and adopt Anna's "kitchen closed" rule.

Congratulations AnnaDoreta!! Well done, and it sounds like you are well prepared for continued success today. I know exactly what you mean, I always try and make sure that my kids have healthy snacks and balanced meals, time to make myself a priority too!

I feel as though I have to give background with my weigh in today:

Week 2
12 Stone 2
5 lb loss.......

I am of course happy with this, but also a bit skeptical. I think I must have taken my "before weight" at a really heavy moment? Probably pre-wee ? I had list 10lbs through Jan and Feb by low carbing, and then botched it big time and gained it all back in 3 weeks, but maybe it wasn't all the way back, if that makes sense?
So in a way, this is really my start weight. I still have at least 2 stone to go, and I am not stopping this time!!!

Good luck everyone :)

FlossyMcgrew · 10/03/2014 09:19

Oh,and you can call me Fluffy if you want, but hopefully I will be getting less fluffy everyday! Grin

OP posts:
AnnaDoreta · 10/03/2014 13:45

Don't take this as your start weight. You would have lost some weight this week and often the first week is a big loss. If you're not comfortable taking the credit for 5lbs, then take it as a 2lb loss and adapt your start weight accordingly.
If it were me, I'd take the 5lb as a motivator! But just make sure your expectations are realistic for the loss next week, perhaps a 1lb loss to offset the big loss this week.

Well done anyway!

I can't take the credit for the kitchen closed trick - it was someone on another thread but it really stuck with me as a great way of thinking.

Looking forward to seeing the other losses on the thread.

RunningKatie · 10/03/2014 14:19

I weighed this morning - still 12st11. And still 5ft4.5 Sad .

Bit despondent as i can see how much i've got a grip on my food and how i've increased my exercise. However i suspect i might be about to start one of my random bleeds, i cannot wait to have the contraceptive implant removed as it's not suiting me now.

A 5lb loss is amazing fluffy

I am off to sling group, i have shredded, walked to and from playgroup twice slinging ds so I am having a biscuit and two proper coffees whilst i'm there! Wink

AnnaDoreta · 10/03/2014 16:44

Hi Katie.
Please don't be despondent. Weight loss is such a funny thing and doesn't always reflect how the week has gone. Hormones are also funny things. My recent weight gain coincided with having the coil fitted.

This time next week will be a different story I'm sure.

FlossyMcgrew · 10/03/2014 20:00

Ok Anna, you've convinced me to take credit for a 5lb loss and run with it! And my kitchen is closed, except I do still need to clean it... You are right, will brace myself for next week to balance this out.

And yes RunningKatie (sorry was calling you RunningKate) don't be discouraged! Well done for all the walking and shredding today.

Motivational quote that I saw time:
"It's a slow process, don't make it slower by quitting"

Random question for you ladies, how did you find the coil? I have been advised to try the mirena coil to help aleve some period issues, but I am hesitant for lots of reasons. I suppose it works differently for everyone and I won't know how it affects me until I try it.

Good luck everyone!

OP posts:
FlossyMcgrew · 10/03/2014 20:04

is it aleve or alleviate? Alleviate is what I mean

OP posts:
AnnaDoreta · 10/03/2014 20:11

Generally I've found the coil fine except for a few issues:
1 - I have put on weight but that also coincided with me going back to work and sitting on my bum eating cake so perhaps a coincidence.
2 - random bleeding. Never quite know when it's going to come or how long it will last. I've had it for almost a year now and it doesn't seem to have settled down.
3 - in the beginning I could, on occasion, really feel it and it was quite uncomfortable for an hour or so and then would be back to normal. This hasn't happened for ages now.

On balance, I'm keeping it because I don't want another baby and can never seem to remember the pill properly.

I have the mirena by the way.

Bimblepops · 10/03/2014 21:31

Hello all,
Well done on your loss, Flossy, absolutely take credit for it.
I weighed in this morning at 11st 10lbs 8oz, I've got a long way to go, but up for the fight!
Aiming for a swim tomorrow, but my 16:8 is likely to be scuppered as I'm supposed to have breakfast ahead of a blood test. So it'll be very light eating tomorrow.
Onwards and upwards!

Toowittoowoo · 11/03/2014 12:00

I weighed yesterday but didn't get a chance to post:-
