I am going to lose this 2 stone, for good!!

FlossyMcgrew · 03/03/2014 12:19

I will be taking "after" pictures on July 1st.

I took before pictures yesterday and they are awful. I have at least 2 stone to lose. I have joined other threads here before, with some success. Then quit after getting halfway to my goal and gaining everything back in half the time it took me to lose it.

I am 5 foot 6, have been wavering around the 12 stone mark since having my 2 dc within 13 months. Youngest is now 2.

In my "before" pictures (which I won't post until I get to post them with my afters!). It is painfully obvious that nearly all of my weight is around my middle. This is particularly worrying as my family history is full of diabetes, heart problems, cancer, strokes- you name it.

My plan is this:

MFP to track my calories

30 day shred or alternate 30 min workout 5 times a week

More conscious eating. Re-reading Paul McKenna, "I Can Make You Thin."

Easy on the carbs. My current 2 slices of toast breakfast, 2 slice of bread sandwich and crisps lunch, and insert random carb heavy dinner here, is doing me and my middle no favours.

Drink more water. At least 4 pint glasses per day.

Chew gum instead of mindless snacking.

No baking. I can think up any excuse to bake, and then of course I have to test my product--no more!

And that is basically it.....

I am hoping that I can make all of these things my new way of life, rather than a diet.

I am tired of hating myself in every picture.

I am tired of refusing to buy new clothes in this size, and looking like a slob as all of my clothes are old and don't fit properly.

I want to be healthy and I want to be here for my kids for as long as possible.

I want to be a good example for my kids.

I would like to feel attractive again.

I am going to check in here at least once a week. Monday morning weigh in to keep me honest over the weekends. Please feel free to join me, or cheer me on.

I don't want to be a diet bore in real life so I am going to use this thread for my rambling instead.

So here goes......

I took my measurements today, I've not done it before and I figured that I need to see where I'm at - 10 weeks to our holidays!

Well, let's just say it was a bit of a shock to the system. I knew that I'd not been trying as hard this past couple of weeks and now I really need to get a grip on it and increase my exercise levels again.

Plan for this week, as well as cutting out the treats that have snuck in:
Mon - 5k walk/run
Tues - Bike ride
Weds - shred
THurs - walk/run
Fri - Bike ride
Sat - first ever Parkrun
Sun - eat cake, drink wine......

magentastardust · 20/04/2014 23:05

11 weeks until mine RunningKate -beginning to feel the pressure!!

I have measured myself last week and for the first time the month before was good to see that I have been losing inches.

I am waiting until June until buying holiday clothes! I think I am doing okay with my food (apart from slight lapse on Thurs/Fri this week but back on track today) so need to concentrate on upping the exercise and toning to work on my shape and all the wobbly bits!

Lamby80 · 21/04/2014 08:18

Yesssssss! I lost 1lb! I didnt think i would this week, been bad but i feel good so more motivated again!
Runningkatie and Magentastardust, 8 weeks til my holiday and still hoping to lose a stone. Trying to wait til last minute to buy clothes, aiming to buy all of them in a 16.
X

howiwonder · 21/04/2014 08:59

Well done Lamby! My second weigh in today and lost 2lb - that's 6 lbs in total, so feeling happy with that.

Went through the calendar and wrote lots of goals for myself last night, have lots of family birthdays coming up, so I decided what weight I wanted to be by each date. Good way to keep focused hopefully. You have inspired me to do measurements too RunningKatie!

magentastardust · 21/04/2014 10:34

Well done Lamby! I am hoping to be a size 16 for holiday clothes too. I know a lot of you on this thread were only starting out at around a 14 and don't have as much weight to lose as I have but you have been a great support and I am enjoying keeping up with the thread!

I think toning and more excercise is what I need to work on my shape now. A friend has asked me to try an insanity work out with her tonight-I fear it may kill me!! Shock

magentastardust · 21/04/2014 10:48

Oh also I have discovered fitnessblender.com loads of great free videos to try-all different lengths and difficulties. They talk you through the excercises and loads of choice.
Seems silly but fact I can just quickly access it on my phone or laptop and do it is appealing to me. I'm not very high tech and working out how to get the dvd player on with all the remotes means I will rarely faff with it and end up putting off. At least with this I have no excuse. (although I did spend the other day watching some videos instead of doing them Wink )

AnnaDoreta · 21/04/2014 11:35

Hello!
Some more good losses today. Well done. And one from me - 1.5lbs on my "first" week. So I'm really pleased with that especially as I pretty much are what I wanted to yesterday.

Back on it today. Will have a look at fitness blender, sounds just the sort of thing I need.

Just need some willpower now to avoid the girls' chocolates!!

AmeliaToppingLovesShopping · 21/04/2014 19:52

Well done all who have lost weight.

I took the DDs out for an unplanned dinner at a local pub. Eat quite a lot but mostly veg (1 Yorkshire pud, 2 small potatoes and 3 slices of pork) was lovely and I didn't have a pudding which is amazing for me!

Weigh in tomorrow. I have done the shred twice this weeks so fingers crossed.

FlossyMcgrew · 21/04/2014 23:46

Weigh in time for me

Week 8
11 stone 8
2 lb loss
13 lb loss so far!

I am thrilled with that and feeling really motivated now!
Hoping to be better about checking in here now Easter hols are over. Also hoping to avoid my dc's ridiculous amount of chocolate. Sending loads to work with DH.

Congrats on all the losses and good luck everyone!

And now,in a moment of insanity, I appear to have entered the ballot for next year's London marathon?
Now I really need to try on those running shoes, yikes!

AmeliaToppingLovesShopping · 22/04/2014 07:07

Well done on the weight loss Flossy and actually quite jealous of the London marathon, I couldn't even manage the race for life!

AmeliaToppingLovesShopping · 22/04/2014 08:18

30 shred done and 2lbs weight loss this week. Total weight loss 12 3/4lbs.

I'm trying to do the shred before school as my motivation seems to disappear the further into the day I get.

RunningKatie · 22/04/2014 08:52

Fab work flossy, i got a place to do the marathon, deferred because i'd not trained after having dd. Then got pregnant again so didn't manage it. Sad

I ran/walked 5k yesterday, was going to cycle today but it was pouring at 6am. Will shred later instead unless dh really has broken the dvd player

Weigh in yesterday, 12.6 again so no loss in 2 weeks, no gain either but i need to get back into it again.

ThatsNotAKnifeThatsASpoon · 22/04/2014 14:21

Hi all, may I join? Been lurking on the weightloss boards for awhile and starting to feel like I need a bit of camaraderie to boost my weightloss efforts.

In week 4 of a low cal/quasi 5:2 diet, combined with doing C25k (on week 7 of that though). Started with over 2 stone to lose.

Been doing ok, not too hungry. Find the C25K challenging but just about manageable. Until yesterday/today.

Only managed 10 mins of a 25 min run last night, and today all I can think about is food. I'm ratty with the kids and generally feeling low and susceptible to crashing and burning. Can I have a kick up the arse please? I can't go back to chocolate, I just can't. Sad

RunningKatie · 23/04/2014 21:29

Hello ThatsNotAKnife & welcome.

Were you trying to run on a fasting day or something? How does that work for you? I'm a rubbish runner in the evening, can't run on a full stomach so I aim to go out before breakfast. Saying that, at 6am I would really rather be in bed!

I am hitting the easter chocolate, it needs to go but I think I'm attacking it with a bit too much gusto. Blush

FlossyMcgrew · 23/04/2014 23:37

Congrats on the loss Amelia, that's fantastic! I keep trying to make myself shred in the morning, but my snooze button keeps winning!

Hi RunningKatie not sure what I'm thinking with the marathon ballot, I'm terrified that I may actually get a spot. We didn't buy any Easter chocolate, but have ended up with a ridiculous amount for the dc's. Very generous of people, but seriously, my kids are 2 and 3--there is no way they should have this amount of chocolate. I need to just pack it away to dh's work or something.

Please join us ThatsNotAKnife! Hope you had a better day today. 7 weeks of c25k is awesome. I have been talking about starting it for 7 weeks now and have only gotten as far as bringing my running shoes downstairs (and apparently signing up for a marathon...) you are doing really well, don't let one bad day get you down. Can you go back one workout and repeat the last one?
I keep hearing so much about the 5:2, but have avoided it because I worry about blood sugar crashes on fasting days. I have lots of diabetes in my family history and apparently it's best for me to maintain an even keel, and also get more active. My sister is a nurse and was trying to explain to me about the glycemic index. I should probably look into it!

Good luck everyone

Not posted since page one and had to de register and reregister as I couldnt get the reset to work! I was storynanny.
Im on week 7/8 now as well and have lost 10lb by calorie counting. I am writing down everything I eat and trying to stick to around 1000. I am amazed at how little 1000 calories of food is but I am determined not to reach my next birthday, 58, still carrying baby weight from 1991!
Hit a big problem 6 weeks ago, bought new scales, showed I was half a stone more than the ancient ones!10lb more to lose so half way there.

FlossyMcgrew · 24/04/2014 00:35

Welcome back storynanny, well done on your loss, that's great!
When is your birthday?
Scales are almost like a necessary evil aren't they? They are good for reference and progress checks, but they can also be almost addictive and disheartening too.

I had a similar thing happen to me last year, was doing well and getting serious, so bought new scales, which then showed me having instantly gained back everything I thought I had lost! I ended up taking them back in the end, but it really knocked my confidence and slowed my momentum. So, well done to you for not letting that happen and sticking to it :)

AmeliaToppingLovesShopping · 24/04/2014 08:28

I have done the 30 shred every morning this week. I find it easier to get up if I do it as soon as the alarm goes off. If I leave it and snooze I become welded to the mattress!

I am wearing a jumper that I haven't been able to wear for a while yay!

ThatsNotAKnife I started c25k last year and found I couldn't do nearly as much if I hadn't eaten something before. If you like bananas can you have 1 before you run? They are supposed to be good for energy.

RunningKatie · 24/04/2014 08:38

Whatever you do, don't have 2 banana's as i once did. They travelled through my system extremely fast so it ended up being a sprint to the loo before i disgraced myself Sad

Shredded this morning. I have put the scales in the wardrobe for a few days as i was weighing every morning.

We didn't buy eggs either flossy but have ended up with about 8. And 2 solar powered meerkats, because those are the ideal easter gift apparently!

My mum once bought some scales that weighed everyone as 1.5 stone! Smile

AmeliaToppingLovesShopping · 24/04/2014 09:31

I haven't bought my DDs any chocolate yet they have ended up with 5 eggs, 6 giant chocolate bunnies, 3 chocolate lollies, 3 white milky bar animals and a handful of mini eggs between them.

I got given a box of Irish cream chocolates for easter which I have put into the cupboard with the identical box she got me for my birthday. I will start on them when I have lost a stone.

Have you all got a target weight? I'm aiming for 10st 3lbs initially and will see how I feel then. At 5' 3.5" that is still at the higher end of the healthy BMI.

storynanny2 · 24/04/2014 09:52

I was surprised to see that even when I get under the magic 10st mark I will still have an overweight bmi at 5'2". So even if I weigh 9st 13 and wear a pair of size 12 or 14 jeans I will still be officially overweight!
Flossie, my aim is to be target weight by 2 summer weddings and keep it off till my 58th birthday in October. I have lost weight in the past several times but it has always crept back on. Very determined this time as it definitely gets harder to lose weight past menopause.
Keep going everyone, remember chocolate is just a lump of greasy fat!!

AmeliaToppingLovesShopping · 24/04/2014 10:38

I am size 12 now and my BMI is 26.7 I think I will have to be a size 10 before I'm a healthy weight according to that.

I haven't had any chocolate since I started losing weight. My problem is I can't seem so stick to a small amount. I have one peanut M&M and next thing you know I have hoovered up the whole bag!

ThatsNotAKnifeThatsASpoon · 24/04/2014 10:49

Thanks all for the welcome. In the end I did succumb on the day I posted, had some biscuits and a bit of dairy milk. Not too bad, managed to rein it in before I lost the plot.

I tried the 25 minute run again yesterday and thankfully did it (albeit verrrry slowly). I think I just got distracted and lost my nerve on Monday. I think a lot of my success or otherwise for both running and dieting depends on confidence and being in a good place mentally.

Thanks again for the support, running tonight so planning to eat a bit more during the day. A bit nervous of eating right before I head out in case of cramps or worse!

Am also studiously ignoring the mountains of Easter chocolate in the house Angry Angry

storynanny2 · 24/04/2014 11:11

Amelia, I am the same with chocolate, so I have gone cold turkey. However, I know that I will "reward" myself with a bar when I reach my target! Sort of warped thinking really isnt it? Maybe we need to train ourself to look forward to rewards other than food.
I have had a painful jaw (tmj) for nearly a year now and it is definitely helping my diet, as I cant bite on big hunks of crusty bread etc!
My evening tip is a big mug of hot marmite before I go to bed as I can not sleep on a hungry tum.
I am eating lots of fat free yoghurt, rice cakes and soup. It is getting boring! Did try the weightwatchers ready meals but they are about 350 cals for a titchy portion. When I add on my milk allowance that leaves hardly any calories left out of 1000 so I am making big pots of soup.
