Hi

I tried slimming world last year and found it pretty good but need a boost to loose the weight I've put back on. I also tend to overdo pasta and think I need to break my carb addiction.

I was looking at paleo or harcombe for a short period as I've read some good things about them. I'm also reading John Briffa's book on low carbing which I'd like to move onto after an initial short 'get into some clothes that don't have elastic waist bands' phase.

How easy is it to give up caffeine? Did it give headaches?

I've heard of something referred to as carb flu, do you really feel that bad? I'm a childminder and need to have lots of energy.

I'd really appreciate some help.

Thanks

I lost weight on harcombe, but put it all back on and more after. Its too restrictive to keep to on a permanent basis. She talks a lot of sense though talking about sugar addiction. I'm battling my sugar demons on the sugar-free thread. This feels like i could do it permanently.....
If you need more energy i would increase your protein and decrease carbs (without going carb-free necessarily). Switch to wholemeal to avoid energy slumps.

If you want to try either paleo or harcombe, i would sort out cutting out sugar first, its hard enough on its own but combined with arestricted diet its crazy. Try a sugar free 4 weeks.

I have been following the harcombe diet since the beginning of January. In one Month I have lost 11lbs, have around another stone to lose before I will be at a weight I prefer. I haven't found it too restrictive, lots tasty recipes if you buy the book. First week was a little hard going with no caffeine and not mixing fat and carbs but have retrained how I think about food and it it fairly easy now.

Caffeine withdrawal headache wasn't too bad for me, previously I probably drank around 6 cups of tea a day.

Thanks for the replies.

I've downloaded the 7 day black dress kick start so trying that from Saturday. Cutting down on carbs, sugar and caffeine until then.

Fingers crossed for the first week!
