And anyone else who wants to join in. The idea of this thread is a way to record weightloss, motivate each other, discuss which methods if any we are using to lose weight and give the occasional kick up the bum.

Right you lot. I was going to wait until new year to start this thread but I think that if I'm going to have my head in the right place to start, I need your help now. I haven't weighed yet I'll do that on the 1st but I think I probably have 2 1/2 stone to lose. Last time I had 3st to lose so I'm seeing that as a postitive.

So, are any of you still out there? Who'd like to join me? Xmas Grin

On this occasion IMST is babysitting. We do have family around. The dcs that need it are 5 and 10. Ds1 is 17 but dd knows how to press his buttons so that's no good. Plus he's at work 5 nights a week.

I don't wanna go tonight. Dh is doing my head in and I'm losing patience. Oh well. :(

Grin at all this ss confusion. I accidentally put in 'sheet 10' on the bottom menu somehow . I have no idea what or how I did it!

Kato yes I'd love a sharing food etc pictures and ideas, sounds fab. FWIW DDs vegetable avoidance has been since she was about 6 months! She's always been fussy with everything, especially veg .

So far today not a sniff of chocolate to my face. I'm doing well.

Hair enjoy your drink with DH Envy . We never gt time alone and if ever we go it's the odd half hour or so and we just collapse on the sofa and fall asleep [dull].

TheOneWithTheHair · 14/01/2014 15:59

That made no sense at all. Yes we have family nearby but they are not sitting tonight.

Tobermory · 14/01/2014 16:08

Im always Envy at the idea of a drink, mainly the drink. We're doing dry January in the Tobermory house...is it almost February?!!

hair hmm, drinks when youre not in the mood is not so good.

toe ha, yes to OCD though I thought maybe no one would notice! Grin

TheOneWithTheHair · 14/01/2014 17:21

Right I think we should have a spreadsheet amnesty. Anyone got any other confessions? If we get it out of the way in one go then perhaps Kato won't skin us alive.

Then we can ask her very nicely, to fix it if we promise not to do it again. Grin

DH has gone out to get beer and nibbles to eat while I'm out babysitting. Now I don't snack in the evenings I think he misses it a bit, but he knows better than to complain about itGrin.
I shall enjoy an evening at Hair's, reading my book quietly and not feeling like I need to chat. I've had a bit of a mad day: buying fabric, taking bookings, rewriting contracts, tech support, and uploading a book (not one I wrote, one I formatted) to the printers.
I need down time.

Tobermory · 14/01/2014 19:46

IMST, do you not snack at all in the evenings or snack differently?

FattyMcSaggyChops · 14/01/2014 20:05

My downfall is night time, yesterday I managed to get to 1550 calories after dinner but by 9pm I was rifling through the cupboards, luckily there were special k crisps but I had 2 portions!

Tobermory · 14/01/2014 20:24

Me too Fatty. How have you done today?
I'm at 1250 and have gone to bed so I won't eat back my excercise calories!

FattyMcSaggyChops · 14/01/2014 22:21

1610 but I've tracked everything, including the Oreo I had whilst cooking dinner and the mini smarties while I was doing the ironing.

I'm quite hungry, just out the bath and going to head to bed too to stop me picking!

My DN is being christened on Sunday so that will be a nightmare but I'll try rein it in and just take a small bowl from the buffet.

I've just signed up for race for life 5k in May but I'm going to keep it secret just now (except DH) and just spend a few weeks walking then start the couch25k.

1250 calories?? I'll get there won't i?

TheOneWithTheHair · 15/01/2014 07:09

Well done Fatty for signing up for Race for Life. It's a really good goal to have.

I think a lot of people start off feeling hungry when calories are reduced. Then it kind of goes away without you noticing. I remember a few on here felt like they were starving all the time.

The other thing we found was that it isn't always beneficial to start with just 1200 calories. You can start higher and reduce as you lose. There's no point setting unrealistic rules or you won't stick to it.

Stick with about 1500 if you are losing weight. If you stop losing, reduce it then.

Had a good night last night in the end. Three vodkas and 1/2 a pack of crinkle cheddars. I didn't even know they were a thing.

I don't feel hungry in the evenings any more. DH put an apple turnover in my bag to take to babysitting and I didn't eat it because I didn't feel like it.
Time was, I could easily put away half a family cheesecake and a big bag of crisps most evenings, but these days a cup of tea is plenty.
Habits change. They take time, but they do change.
I remember feeling hungry at the start of my weight loss, I drank water to keep my stomach full until meal times, gradually my body got used to smaller portions and better choices.

A cup of tea is fine if you can reach the tea caddy IMST! She politely pointed out to me that she can't reach the tea caddy in my cupboard and last time she babysat she had to lift ds2 up to reach it for her. She is tiny! Grin

One thing I've learned is that I don't have to be concerned about being hungry. Don't feel that you have to eat the minute you feel hungry. It's actually healthy to be hungry before a meal, your body is telling you it's ready. I also think that if I'm hungry, my body is burning the fat stores I have and not the food I'm putting in my stomach iyswim.

OP posts:
Tobermory · 15/01/2014 11:24

eightytwenty I'm just the same. Evening snacking is very ingrained in me so much so that i took myself to bed at 8 last night so i didn't succumb!

Hair you know that feeling hungry thing is a biggy for me. I think about how i ate before, when I'm not on the wagon, and definitely dont wait to be hungry before eating, more that i ate because it was 'time' to eat.

Also this "I also think that if I'm hungry, my body is burning the fat stores I have and not the food I'm putting in my stomach iyswim." That for me is quite a motivator, a positive thought.

ifandwhen · 15/01/2014 11:34

hi all. On day 4 of nursing DS through horrible vomiting bug, DH gone back to work today after 2 days off ill, and feeling a bit iffy myself (DD strangely fine - keep expecting her to succumb too).

On the bright side, have kept on with the mfp and restrained eating apart from a minor snacking incident last night.

FattyMcSaggyChops · 15/01/2014 12:30

Just looking through the race for life info. A child 5 and under is free. would a child of 5 be able to run 5k? I'm assuming this is for those walking it?

I ask as DD1 is 5 and I wonder if she would like to do it with me but I'd like to run it (although not at a fast pace)?

Would she be allowed to do it on a bike scooter? Just thinking out loud now.

TheOneWithTheHair · 15/01/2014 14:01

ifandwhen I hope you all feel better soon.

Don't know about scooters in Race for Life. Ds2 is 5 and he would walk/run 5k better than me I think. Ds1 was the same at that age. Dd however would probably need bribery on a huge scale to do it now and she's 10! You have to judge your own dc I suppose. You could always enter her and decide nearer the time. You've lost nothing if it's free.

Reastie · 15/01/2014 19:53

If also hope you feel better soon as does everyone else at ifandwhen towers.

Interesting chat re: 5k/entering runs. Last week I discovered there is a 10k local to me at the end of March and am debating entering, but I don't and haven't really run before (the occasional jog but not for a long time) so don't know if 10k might be a bit steep, and tbh I don't really want to train specifically for it as want to keep with my interval training Confused .

Re: evening snacking, it's interesting as I've always preferred to eat often but less than eat 3 meals and no snacks. For me it works better. I still feel hungry when I come to eat [greedy]. I have dinner stupidly early (just after 5pm) which is always soup of some kind with a tiny bit of bread and low fat cheese. Sometimes I have a yoghurt/nuts/bit of chocolate for pud, sometimes nothing depending on how hungry I am. Most of the time I then have a couple of rice cakes and peanut butter a bit later, and later still I have a small bowl of cereal. I know it's a bit random eating cereal last thing in the evening but I've done it for about 15 years Blush . Maybe it's one of those habits I should break.....but then my logic is I eat dinner so early it's not too unreasonable to have something later, bit like having a meal in 2 parts

Also on the chat of hunger. I suffered greatly with this and it really stressed me out. I remember posting on the original MM threads about this. I found the key was to cut down slowly on stuff. Don't go straight to 1200 kcals, get down bit by bit. My MFP aim daily to lose 1 lb a week is around 1400 kcals a day, and, tbh it's rare I manage that, it's usually more like 1800 - 2000 kcals, but I've still managed to lose weight doing that so somehow it's working!

Hair you know I imagine you being very glam with gorgeous hair btw Wink

Reastie · 15/01/2014 19:56

The thing, whilst I've got a minute to mn, I really struggle with, and would be really interested to see if others have this thinking too, is eating when I'm not that hungry because I know I might not be able to eat when I am hungry because of an appointment or work or such like. SO I'll have something to eat that I may not need at that moment because I know I will be hungry later but I won't be able to eat anything for whatever reason, when I am hungry. I panic I'll get over hungry (which triggers my IBS and I can get nasty stomach pains and stuff) so compensate to make sure it doesn't happen. Is this just me or does this thought or behaviour go through other peoples mind?

I remember last year when I successfully lost one of my habits was to keep back 100 cals or so for an evening snack. I don't know if it's wise to eat a kit kat at 9oclock at night but it kept me going, even now I'm mentally looking forward to a low cal hot chocolate and a snack. I don't know if ill be hungry but still want it....

Today I helped my DD choose between white mice or snowies and I wasn't tempted. Not even a tiny bit. She offered me some but I declined, it wasn't even hard. Mentally I feel in quite a different place to earlier in the week when I was snaffle my chocolate left, right and centre and saying 'sod it'.feeling good Grin

Haha. Thanks reastie but I'm not glamorous at all!! Ask IMST or Stealth who both know what I look like. Grin

Where is Stealth by the way? Anyone seen her around?

I found the only way to stop snacking in the evening is to keep my hands busy while I watch telly. I learnt to crochet about a year ago and it's brilliant. I have been offered chocolate and not eaten it because I haven't wanted to stop. Shock

I do like a mouth sweetener after I've eaten though so if I'm going to eat chocolate, it's allowed then. Any other time is bad.

I do understand the eating before because you might not get the chance later. Dh does this. I was going to suggest getting used to it but if it sets off your ibs then that's not a good idea. I'm afraid I don't have any useful suggestions atm.
