20lbs lighter by Christmas Day, anyone?

notagiraffe · 21/10/2013 14:18

Hi
Got weighed at weekend in one of those places where you can't shift your toes around on the scale to lose half a stone. Bit of a shock. Does anyone want to join me to be 20lb lighter by Christmas?

That's only 2lb a week. We can do it.

Height: 5'4"
Start weight on 21st October: 159lb
Goal Weight on Christmas Day: 139lb

Food Plan: no sugar or processed foods, lots of water, lots of veg and lean protein. Alcohol free on weekdays

Exercise Plan: Daily Shred plus what I already do (fitness class and walks)

Anyone want to join in and add plans, tips, motivators, anything at all to get us there by Christmas Day?

Hi all, had a good day today, I'm on a fast day but allied myself to eat about 800 cals as I did 40mins of fitness DVD at lunchtime and an hours netball match tonight which I estimate to be at least 800 so I'm calorie neutral today :-)

Bush, exercise can't be something you just fit in otherwise it will be the 1st thing to fall by the way side. I treat it as an appointment and have regular slots booked in so that I know I have made time for it - no excuses! I work full time and have 2 kids who both play sports so am out at training / matches 4 evenings a week. I use my lunch hour to squeeze in at least 35 mins each day, I also go to a late Pilates class once a week and I also play netball - because I'm part if a team with a coach I can't miss training or matches, plus it feels more like fun than exercise. Weekends I'm a bit more relaxed usually try and fit something fun in with the kids that is still exercise - swimming, ice skating, bike ride, canoeing etc

KatoPotato · 23/10/2013 22:52

Thanks to the motivation of this thread, I hailed my backside to kettlercise class and upped my weight to 6kg.

Not bad food wise today but didn't count how many chocolate fingers I actually ate this evening...

DerbyNottsLeicsNightNanny · 23/10/2013 23:08

I have 20.5lbs to lose. Weight today 149.5lb, target 129lb. Dd is only 4wks old so it's still early days but I know this weight is not going to just 'drop off'. Started ww on Monday & starting going to gym again next week after about a years break - gonna be hard!

bubalou · 23/10/2013 23:19

Id love to join Smile

Height - 5ft 6
Start weight - 23rd October = 149lbs
Goal weight - Xmas = 129lbs

I like to follow Jason vales juicing plan along with a low carb diet to get all my vegetables and minerals in an enjoyable way.

I am also going to make time for myself for a change and exercise, even if it's my DVD, a quick jog, some sit ups or use of the weights we have in our spare room. Grin

SaucepanFucker · 23/10/2013 23:24

Hello, long time member and recent lurker here! (usually Saucepanman)

I'm going to try and join in:

Height: 5'3"
Start weight on 21st October: 174lb
Goal Weight on Christmas Day: 154lb

Food Plan: no sugar or processed foods, lots of water, lots of veg and lean protein. Alcohol free on weekdays

Exercise Plan: 2x running per week (not v far as running with dog, who's a rubbish running partner), walking daily and shred x2 a week. Using striiv and myfitnesspal apps to track. At least 10,000 steps a day.

WishIHadAFunkyName · 23/10/2013 23:31

I'm joining! I haven't weighed myself but think I'm about 165lbs. I've just gone back to work after maternity leave and had to buy bigger clothes as my old stuff didn't fit me.
I realised how awful I look as there are a few full lengths mirrors in the lifts and the toilets. I kept catching sight of myself and being totally shocked at how huge I've become.
I eat too much junk. I'll eat about 6 biscuits in one sitting, a couple of packets of crisps etc. I do it all the time which is why I've been getting bigger but I'm also feeling ill with it. It just has to stop.
I know all there is to know about diets and healthy eating. I just need a kick up the backside and a pile of willpower.
I can't really be like this anymore so I have now cut out the junk and am increasing the amount of veg I eat. I'm also drinking more water.
I'm walking more and doing some abs workouts every night.
There are some good ones on youtube.

WishIHadAFunkyName · 23/10/2013 23:39

Oh I should do this bit too

Height: 5'2"
Start weight on 21st October: 165lb
Goal Weight on Christmas Day: 145lb

Food Plan: no sugar or processed foods, lots of water, lots of veg, protein and some good carbs.

Exercise Plan: walking and ab exercises

CrystalDeCanter · 24/10/2013 02:06

Hello everyone

Yesterday I ate... Muesli and cherries, one skinny flat white +1 sugar (will try to do without the sugar), tuna mayo on toast with salad, small bowl of beef stew and rice with lots of veggies.

Today so far... Muesli again, and a coffee. It's now 11.30 and I've just walked/run (wk 1 of c25k) 8kms with the dog. Dog now snoring next to me on the sofa.

For those that find it hard to exercise with young kids, this is what I did (mine are now in primary)...
Walk with both in the pram
DVD at home
Swap with a friend ie one babysits all the kids whilst the other went swimming/run etc
Join a gym with a crèche - although mine would scream all the time I was exercising so I left after a few times
My friend bought a running machine so she gets up early and runs when the kids are still sleeping
I used to live in a house with a steep driveway so I'd put the baby in the pram or playpen and run up and down the drive for 15 mins

Dunno if any of that is helpful or just screamingly obvious Grin

Welcome to all the people who are new to the thread. Please post your start weight and your height, so we can keep track of progress in weekly weigh ins. (If you all pm me your weekly weigh ins on Monday I'll put up a list and we can see how much we've lost between us.)

Kato soooo pleased this thread motivated you to go to kettlercise.

Rugbymum - think you have to get a balance. Tell DC that some days it's slow walking at their pace and some days it's mummy's turn to do fast walks or jogs with buggy. Can you do ball games at the park? Or get your DC one of those pedal free bikes - they whizz around on those. Or a micro scooter - you'll be charging round after your DC on one of those - they are lethal!

Done bootcamp already today, and am about to do a hilly walk to pet shop for supplies then later will cycle with DS2 up to a music shop in next village.

Drink water! I forgot yesterday and ate too much as I kept thinking I was hungry. We are going to be toned and slim for Christmas.

Rugbylovingmum · 24/10/2013 13:56

Thanks notagiraffe - I will definitely try that. Today on the preschool run I pushed DD2 in her trike while DD1 cycled - she is pretty quick so it's at least a fast walk for me. Then I let DD2 dawdle most of the way back collecting leaves etc. Hopefully once DD1 is a little more confident on her bike I can stick DD2 on mine and we can go for a nice cycle once we drop DD1 off at preschool. Although she hates the buggy/trike/carrier she loves the seat on my bike. Just need to get DD1 better at kerbs/bumpy bits of the track.

We do run around at the park etc, it just doesn't feel like a proper work out. I really miss playing rugby and all the training we did. I had just started doing bodypump and aerobics at the gym but it clashes with my teaching sessions now so I'm a bit frustrated. I really need to get back to running - I keep planning to start the C25k as I know I'll enjoy it once I'm back up to 30min runs but I hate those first few weeks so keep putting it off Blush.

Starting weight: 12st 4lb
Height: 5ft 4

hellsbells99 · 24/10/2013 14:14

Count me in too please.

Have lost 13.5lb so now 213lb - a long way to go.
Height 5'5''
Desparate to get to a healthy weight. My dad had his 1st heart attack at 47 and that is my age now.
20lb by xmas would be 197lb

sweetheart · 24/10/2013 15:09

Hi all, welcome to all the newcomers Grin

Having a good day so far today - always the way when I'm at work really - it's when I get let loose in the real world I have problems Wink Been home at lunchtime to do my last session of level 1 Shred - up to level 2 tomorrow, which I seem to remember is where I have always given up in the past so really need to try and push through this time. Got netball training tonight too - it's not really high intensity but it's better than sitting on the sofa watching TV and thinking about what I can eat.

Good luck everyone else today too - the weekend is looming and that's where I loose control. Does anyone have any coping mechanism's for me? How to stay on track and healthy over the weekend?

notagiraffe · 24/10/2013 15:17

Rugby
Maybe C25K programme isn't right for you. It does start slowly. DS says he much prefers to just jog gently rather than do C25K style interval training. The stoppy-startyness of it tires him out more. You'd soon get to 30 min runs if you did a slow jog the whole way.

hellsbells Sad If that story about your dad isn't an incentive to us all, I don't know what is! You've lst nearly a stone in 5 weeks already - that's brilliant!

Crystal you sound fit!

I find level 3 easier than level 2 - level 2 has some uncomfortable move sin it. If you feel like giving up, just jump to level 3 instead. It's a LOT of plank iirc, but it is a great workout.

Weekend ideas (love to hear some more from other people):

  • Keep busy with lots of virtuous physical stuff (tidy the garden, take kids out on bikes etc) so you keep remembering your intention to stay slim.
  • Shred first thing, so that MFP gives you an extra 200 cals to play with.
  • If you drink, sort yourself out a really nice long alcoholic drink like G&SlimlineT with loads of ice and lime, or a spritzer made with 3 parts sparkling water and one part wine, so you don't feel like knocking back half a bottle.
  • If you're eating out, decide in advance whether you feel like looking for the healthiest options on the menu, or whether you'd rather fast during the day and have what you want at dinner.
OP posts:
sweetheart · 24/10/2013 15:45

Notag, thanks so much for those. I do try and shred on a Saturday morning but Sunday's are so hard as both my kids have sporting matches we have to attend which usually fills out day (either that or I'm too hung over to even contemplate a workout!!!!) Plank is not good for me, it gives me a bad back, so may have to modify it slightly to get through.

I like the idea of long drinks so need to come up with a good one. My main spirit is Vodka (don't like gin - or soda water come to that) so no wine spritzers either. I'll try and stick to Vodka and diet coke but if anyone has any other ideas that would be great. I don't drink at all during the week but I do like a drink at the weekends and we have parties every weekend now until Christmas so I need to find a way to cope with them.

notagiraffe · 24/10/2013 18:42

Food diary:
Natural yoghurt sprinkled with muesli
Coffee

2 scrambled eggs
1/2 glass of mango smoothie

apple
4 ryvita
ready salted crisps

reduced sugar baked beans
peas, carrots
1 rasher back bacon, grilled
small portion oven chips

lots of water

not the healthiest day but did loads of exercise - 1 hour boot camp, 1 hour hill walking, carrying weights, so despite all that food MFP says there's calories owing today. Won't have them. Feeling stuffed.

I'm finding if I drink a big glass of water straight after a small meal it's very filling.

OP posts:
WishIHadAFunkyName · 24/10/2013 19:27

food diary

breakfast - some seaweed peanut crackers. not the best breakfast but I was out and wanted something without sugar and not too fatty.
lunch - left over rice and meatballs. yoghurt
snack - tea and 1 twirl finger
dinner- butternut squash, tomato and spinach lasagne

Although that doesn't sound like the best diet day, its actually a huge improvement for me. Tomorrow will be better.

CrystalDeCanter · 25/10/2013 03:07

Hello again, lunchtime here and I'm at work so going to head out for my final c25k run of the week. I'm doing another fast day I think (or low cal day) in preparation for what is shaping up to be a busy weekend. We have friends for lunch/dinner on Sat and Sun - anyone got any ideas for low cal entertaining? BBQ and salad? Anything more imaginative?

We have our own chickens so last night I had 3 eggs, with lots of veg and toast. Was stuffed. I made dh have a 6 egg omelette (sp?). Bloody chickens lay LOADS of eggs.

sweetheart · 25/10/2013 09:18

Feeling a bit pissed off this morning - got on the scales and dispite being good this week the scales just don't seem to be dropping Sad so I'm having another fast day today in a desperation bid to try and drop some weight before the weekend. We're out with friends tomorrow so I know food consumption will be bad and Sunday we are on the road all day with the kids sporting activities so food will be hit and miss as I'll have to grab what I can on the go.

Crystal, BBQ & salad sounds nice. We have a meal which is chicken in a cream and grape sauce which is fairly low cals and yummy.
We use 450g chicken breast for me, dh and 2 dc's.
pan fry off the chicken is a tablespoon of oil until brown, add 150ml chicken stock, zest and juice of a lemon and some rosemary and let simmer until chicken is cooked through - stock will reduce. Then add 150ml of light single cream and a couple of handfuls of grapes (cut in half) and let the cream warm through. Serve with rice. I make it about 550 cals so not too bad for an evening meal.

Or we have chilli pasta bake which is about 480 cals per serving.
Make up a chilli with 500g lean mince, and cook 300g pasta then mix it together and put it in an oven proof dish. In a jug mix 500g 0% fat greek yoghurt with 2 Eggs and 50g grated cheese and some garlic. Spread this topping over the chilli pasta and cook in the oven for about 20-30 mins until the topping goes golden brown - it's very yummy!

PeteCampbellsRecedingHairline · 25/10/2013 10:12

Oh god I had a kebab last night. Blush This is what happens when you don't meal plan properly! Angry I didn't eat the bread though, so it's only really the coleslaw and awful dog meat that I have to worry about.

I'm putting that all behind me now though. Drinking plenty of water today and meal planning for next week.

Also, I still haven't had any diet coke or fizzy drinks. I have an unopened 2 litre bottle in the fridge. I know this probably doesn't sound like much but I used to live on it. I've also had no chocolate since I started this. I must have lost a least a stone this week. Grin

KatoPotato · 25/10/2013 10:18

Wahhhh! Do NOT weigh on a Friday! I've put a lb on FFS!

I've been so good, trying hard to stay motivated, blaming TOTM and wondering if Kettlercise is making me heavier muscle wise???

sweetheart · 25/10/2013 10:30

Pete - A chicken kebab is actually pretty healthy as it goes - about 400 cals I think. if the family want a takeaway at the weekend it's always my 1st option Grin You had a doner though didn't you Wink Grin

I weigh ever day Sad

PeteCampbellsRecedingHairline · 25/10/2013 10:32

I did have a doner because the chicken ones never fill me up. Grin

I read somewhere that you should only weigh yourself once a month to get a true idea of your weight loss. I can barely hold out a week though.

KatoPotato · 25/10/2013 10:35

I'd LOVE a donner kebab...

PeteCampbellsRecedingHairline · 25/10/2013 10:38

I'll let you know the damage on Monday morning. It was only a medium one!

I'm hoping the lack of coke and chocolate vs the doner will balance each other out.
