That's it really, need to lose just over 2 stone and it seems totally daunting. Wondering how you successful ladies have done it.

Funnily enough I was just thinking of starting a thread on "anyone managed to lose the weight they wanted to for the summer". I need to lose the same Somanykiddies (great name!).

Two stone would be marvellous although would settle for one at the moment. Have lost all motivation having lost it all after ds3 and then regained it all..feels like just too much to do so again. I know I need to not eat between meals and go the gym and then I'll be on my way but saying it and doing it are very different

Somanykiddies · 15/06/2006 15:47

So I think I will shamelessly bump this then. (Excellent name too Bummer, was thinking of changing mine to Wannabthin!).

Its not easy.
For me it was a light switch moment of two seperate people telling me i looked "blooming", obviously a compliment of pregnancy.
I decided there and then.
Started off wanting to get 1 lb off for my first week and did it that way.
Small managable amounts.
I wrote a food diary and went to weight watchers.
It took me 5 months but i got 2 stone off and i am continuing to loose weight even though i am at my goal weight.
Top tips:

  1. DEFO DEFO DEFO meal plan. Shop for and ONLY buy the food on your list. 2)If you have sweet tooth or like me want Nay NEED sweet stuff and crap at a certain time of the month, buy a pack of weight watchers or shops own low fat cakes (89p) and put them in a cupbourd and have one with a brew, that takes the craving off for me. 3)Make big portions and freeze half, fab for those days when you cant be bothered.
  2. treat yourself, have a nice meal or takaway once a week, dont deny yourself that.
  3. break ALL chocolate bars and cakes in half because that allows the calories to escape into the air...thus does not count.Grin For me a slimming club is essential because of the discipline and weekly weigh in. Aweek is only seven days, count them off as you go, count down to your treat night. HTH

Donbean, I LOVE point 5, now that's one thing I haven't tried over the years Grin

Donbean · 15/06/2006 16:19

Yes, it is an essential facet in the weight management code of conduct actually.

I have lost about 3 stone over the last 2 years, a combination of running and healthy eating (not really a 'diet' as such - just less crap stuff and more good stuff).

For me the motivation has come from the positive reaction I have had from other people - love meeting people I haven't seen in a while and seeing their faces at how I've changed, also getting more attention from men, which is great, although as I'm happily married I obviously don't act on it. Nice to get compliments though.

When I don't feel like going to the gym / going for a run, I imagine the weight I've lost running after me and catching me up. Sounds mad, but works for me.

Once you are on a roll, the motivation is self-perpetuating I find. You've just got to get to that point in your head where you say "no more!".

Not sure if this is helpful, but it's all worked for me.

Somanykiddies · 15/06/2006 17:13

emsiewell, was helpful. Imagine that when people compliment you it would keep you on track and motivated, it's just getting started although I am def at the 'no more' point.

I have two stone to lose too (3 would be even better!!)

I had a moment too where I suddenly thought, look, you twat, you would be so much happier if you lost a bit of weight so just do it.

I joined ww online 2.5 weeks ago and have lost half a stone. I have stuck to it rigorously and for the first few days I was hungry, since then I have been fine and I haven't found it a problem at all. I save a couple of points a day for a blow out at the weekend.

I have found that it totally stops me picking and it forces me to eat more healthily in order to feel full.

My clothes feel better already

Somanykiddies, I started going to WW meetings four weeks ago and have lost 11.5lb since then. can't believe it! am soooo motivated, would thoroughly recommend ww, makes you so focused...

mosschops30 · 15/06/2006 17:26

have just lost a stone and the best thing for me was, making a selection of good music on my mp3 player, stuff that really got me going and was good to run to.
Oh and I only weighed myself once a week (as I usually like to hop on every day Blush) which was lovely to see the weight coming off.

The motivation lies in getting that zip on those goal jeans a little bit more done up every week. Go out and buy a pair of nice jeans in the size you were/would like to be and aim for that

CountessDracula · 15/06/2006 17:32

It helps to have little goals too

ie I have a holiday in 2 .5 weeks so i had 5 weeks to lose a stone

then I have my 40th in October and my aim is to fit back into my wedding dress (not to wear obv!) when I am 40.

CountessDracula · 15/06/2006 17:33

(also I have told lots of people I have joined ww so that will make me embarrassed if I fail!)
