Starting Slimfast today for a week...anyone done it?

I need to lose a lot of weight, but need a kick up the ass. Saw this in Boots at half price and thought I should go for it...I'm not usually convinced by silly fad diets, but think if I can kick start some weight loss, and focus on not snacking or overeating, then I maybe motivated to carry on. Will increase my exercise too, but limited due to a back injury.
Anyone done it? Any success?

is this a shake type thing?

CheeryCherry · 05/07/2013 14:23

Yes I've bought the shakes, 77p, but there are snack bars too. Not too hungry yet but DD has made a cake in good tech today... I must be strong!

I did it, it made me grumpy and miserable and hungry! I only lost half a lb over 2weeks so I gave up. It does work for some people though I guess otherwise it wouldn't sell as well as it does.

BsshBossh · 06/07/2013 10:27

I did it for 2 weeks once. I couldn't do it longer than that but it did kickstart weightloss, which was very motivating. Then I shifted to calorie counting via MyFitnessPal which lasted a year, then 5:2 fasting this year (I no longer need to count calories). Over 5 stones lost so far and I eat everything (even ice cream most days!).

CheeryCherry · 06/07/2013 22:15

BshhBossh that's amazing, well done! Two weeks is hardcore. I've managed 2 days so far! But yes I'm hoping it kick starts me into getting stuck into losing weight. Not miserable on it yet, but early days. Will probably move onto Slimming World.
Yippee can't wait Grin

Pissed off! Did a week, was v good except for a bowl of special k when I was desperate. Did more walking too. Lost the grand total of 2lb. I'm huge, I should have lost more.
So have had a bagel and two scones for breakfast Blush

Do I try another week? It was only to kick start some proper weight loss.Sad

No, 2lbs in a week is excellent. If I had given up at even 1 or less lbs a week I would have not lost 5 stones. You need to take any loss as a good thing and look at the longterm picture.

But you don't have to do Slimfast, try something else eg 5:2 fasting or calorie counting and stick with it even through the weeks you inevitably don't lose weight.

Good luck!

I'm doing slim fast, I did low carbing for a while which I found quite good.

I like slim fast as it fits into my routine well, I don't need to bother thinking about lunch or breakfast and can enjoy a nice dinner and small treat with DH in the evenings.

I've done 2 weeks and have 4 more to go (big event)
It's well worth blending with Ice or sticking it in the freezer for an hour as you get far more shake Smile

floatyjosmum · 23/07/2013 07:32

I've done two weeks on slim fast and list 5 lb in total which I'm impressed about. Have to admit I think the cutting out of sweet stuff probably helped most!

I have discovered though that its nicer mixed in the blender - goes frothy like a proper shake!

sustainable weight loss is slow and cannot be kickstarted.

chuck the sugary shakes in the bin where they belong, eat reasonable portions of a good variety of food and move around.

ginslinger · 06/11/2013 20:12

I did it years ago and lost a few pounds quickly, was utterly miserabe and put it all back on in a week

Cheesyslice · 06/11/2013 22:04

I genuinely don't think I've ever heard anyone with a positive story about weight loss on Slim Fast.

VeryStressedMum · 07/11/2013 07:33

I think they may be quite sugary which wouldn't do much for your food cravings.

Iggity · 17/11/2013 10:16

I did it for a whike with the bars and meal in the evening. I got heartily sick of it very quickly. I wanted something easy for breakfast but the bars really do taste rotten after you've eaten them 20 times. I can't comment on the shakes. How about trying to have a big bowl of porridge for breakfast, have a shake for lunch and then your healthy meal for dinner. Doesn't make you too reliant on the shakes then but really the best option would be to ditch them. You could kick start your diet by making one change at a time rather than going cold turkey.

Normalisavariantofcrazy · 17/11/2013 22:25

I'm thinking about this, I'm huge and have stomach issues . At the moment all I can stomach is milkshake so may as well be one that's good for me right?

I need to get out of the habit of eating.

Cheesyslice · 19/11/2013 22:14

What makes you think that slim fast is good for you?

Normalisavariantofcrazy · 20/11/2013 09:37

Because it's got more nutrients in than a straight milkshake

drinkyourmilk · 20/11/2013 09:42

normal I understand your thinking but suspect you would be better having soup.

Normalisavariantofcrazy · 20/11/2013 09:48

I can't have soup at work, got nowhere to heat it up

Cheesyslice · 20/11/2013 18:05

Probably the same amount of sugar as well.
