How did you do it?

I know there is no magic formula and it will be along the lines of eating less and doing more exercise, but I need some encouragement to get going.

I did lose some weight last summer by cutting out bread and pasta, but put it all on again (and more) when I became pregnant and then had a miscarriage. I am now 35 and worry that if I don't do it now I never will :(

by completely changing my relationship with food and exercise

now I take nothing for granted and try and lead a balanced life so that I can have fun sometimes but I do try to work it off

sorry to be dull

iloveblue · 03/07/2013 22:24

That's okay - thanks superbagpuss
You have just hit the nail on the head of what I need to do.

I did Dukan combined with exercise 4 times a week and lost 2.5 stone. A year on I am 5 pounds more than I was at my lightest. I now make sure I am aware of calories, and I try to exercise at least 3 times a week, so that I can enjoy my food. I also don't drink much alcohol, and always drink water before I eat.

blimeyohriley · 03/07/2013 22:34

Oh and I am sorry to hear about your miscarriage. I hope you are ok.

Gastric bypass ... 8 stone lost and stable for 18 months

scarlettsmummy2 · 03/07/2013 22:46

I did myfitnesspal- lost loads quickly and easily. I have kept it off by sticking to roughly 1500 calories a day, only allowing myself one treat a day, and weighing myself regularly so that if I have put on a pound or two, I can lose it again quickly.

scarlettsmummy2 · 03/07/2013 22:48

Also really sorry to hear about your sad news x

Parisbanana · 03/07/2013 22:51

I don't know what time you eat your evening meal but for me that was a big help....I started having it at 6pm rather than 8 or so, and ate a really good, pretty big dinner, so during the course of the evening I wasn't hungry at all and therefore not tempted to snack.
I actually think filling meals are the key as for me they stop me picking inbetween meals.
I lost 3+ stone and have kept it off.

Exercise-wise, I am now much more of a formal exerciser but when I was trying to lose weight I gradually added brisk walking, climbing stairs instead of the lift, all those things really do help.

Good luck Smile

ExitPursuedByABear · 03/07/2013 22:51

I miss as many meals as I can. I have realised that hunger is not a problem. Eek. That sounds extreme. I don't mean it to. Just that eating is sometimes a habit rather than a necessity.

TheFallenNinja · 04/07/2013 06:42

I weigh every morning. If it goes up over 3 days then I eat a bit less until it goes down. If it goes down I eat a bit more.

Constant monitoring and lots of running.

BikeRunSki · 04/07/2013 06:55

I lost 3 stone with Slimming World and so.fsrvha e kept it off for 6 months. I generally eat a SW breakfast and do SW on. days I am at work, so I can relax and eat cske and ice cream with the DC at home.

blimeyohriley · 04/07/2013 16:59

I also do myfitnesspal now to keep on track. I particularly like the fact that 45 mins of Zumba allows me to eat 400 more calories Wink

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 04/07/2013 17:03

I counted calories and upped the exercise and lost 2.5 stone that had crept on last year. I watch what I eat now and fast one day a week (6:1) and am generally careful. I have kept at my goal of 9 stone 7 for six months so far. The new wardrobe I bought in size 10 is also an incentive!!
