I lost weight by eating less and moving more, though now I'm using MFP to be a bit more obsessive exact about it.

40lbs

6 months

1 - I did it with DH so had a buddy (he had lots more to lose than me) and there were some awful photos on Facebook that kept me on the straight and narrow. I'd got to the point I wanted to do something about my weight, I didn't want to be fat anymore.

3 years, aside from the pesky 10lbs that crept on this winter. I've lost them now in 7 or so weeks using MFP.

I think if you've had the moment that tips you over the edge it can be quite easy to lose weight. Unless you have reached that horrible moment it's a struggle.

Fairydogmother · 12/06/2013 22:12

I lost 3.4 stone in 5 months using myfitnesspal and taking up running. And then I got pregnant Grin

Hoping any excess pounds will be as easily shed afterwards!

I was disciplined about food and exercise but banned nothing so if I wanted a chocolate I had a small piece and made sure I worked it off. It was more about learning portion sizes etc that made the difference. And I loved running - miss it terribly but ligament pain has put paid to that until I give birth!

O and I agree with hotel - there's generally a moment that triggers it. Mine was being weighed in the Gp surgery and being so mortified that I cried.

Which diet did you lose weight on? Low carbing
How much did you lose? 36lb so far - more to follow
How long did it take you? 4 months so far
On a scale on 0-10, how tough was it? 10 being restricted in anyway but 1 or 2 for actual 'toughness'
How long have you kept the weight off for? I know I will keep it off for life because it's do-able & I need to for health reasons
Do you still look 5 months pregnant (like I do Grrr!) Yes and fear that I might always due to being very overweight to start with - but better that than overdue with triplets!!

Why do you ask?

HotelTangoFoxtrotUniform · 12/06/2013 22:18

Fairydogmother makes a good point about portions. I'd forgotten how big a portion was so weighed everything for a good while to dial back in my portion sizes - I was eating twice as much as I should have. Boring, obsessive, but it helped me know how much to eat and helped the weight stay off.

The wine, and a lack of gym going made the 10lbs creep back on. I'm not going to be sedentary again.

I want to loose some.

Will be doing the MFP route so it's good to hear other people did well with that! Smile

Snoot · 13/06/2013 12:46

Two months so far, just, although it's starting to feel like a long time! I don't have scales but I've gone from bursting out of my (generous) size 14 jeans to them being unflatteringly baggy, I'm 5' 7". I've Atkins-ed in the past successfully but not kept it off. This time I'm DIY no carb-ing in the week (but drinking dry white wine) and eating normally Friday night-Sunday night. So far I can live with it and I'm pleased with the results. I do find it effects my quality of life as I usually love to cook but I can struggle to summon up much entheuiasm for what feel like incomplete meals. I'm looking at switching to another scheme but I do know that this one works, is easy, requires no weighing or measuring and allows me to drink Grin Wine

higgle · 13/06/2013 15:35

I'm doing better this time than when I've tried before

Which diet did you lose weight on? slimming world
How much did you lose? 23 1/2 lb - half way there.
How long did it take you? 2 3/4 months so far
On a scale on 0-10, how tough was it? 1-2 - very easy diet to stick to.

How long have you kept the weight off for? I hope this will be the last time, I hate being fat.
Do you still look 5 months pregnant - no - but a baby at age 38 18 years ago was the start of my problems, I was about 7 1/2 stone before that.

higgle · 13/06/2013 15:37

Snoot, just saw your comments about your jeans, me too. It was not being able to sit comfortably and struggling with the top button on my size 14s that made me start going to SW, now I can pull them down without unbuttoning at all! I need some 12s but think if I hold on another month and wear a belt I will be able to buy 10s next time.

I have lost half a stone since mid/late April, I'm not looking to lose anymore. All I did was to monitor what I was eating more closely and keep a food diary. I have completley given up crisps, have cut down on sweet things (although still have to have something every day) and I am just generally being a bit more mindful. Some days have been easier than others, but not bad really. Obviously I have had a few whoops days where I have gone out and had a nice meal or eaten far too much chocolate brownie. Calorie wise I probably eat between 1700 and 1900 cals a day (unless its a whoops day), which I know sounds a lot, couldn't stick to what myfitenss said I should be eating to lose weight (1,200 cals a day). Have found the key is just to be a bit more boundaried but no to cut anything out, all in all I would say I have adopted a Nigella approach. I do eat ready meals (find them quite helpful in controlling calories/portion size), although a lot of people wouldn't agree with that. I also keep active, but did this anyway with two young DC's and quite a bit of walking as I don't drive. The other thing I would say is to try and eat a reasonable amount of protein, does help keep you full, although I haven't cut out carbs by any means - personally couldn't do that as my energy levels would crash. The key now for me is to try and keep the weight off. Good luck
