Low fat snacks when an apple just won't do?

Hiya,

Need to shift about a stone, from nine down to eight really.....my downfall is four pm or so, at work, knackered, need a break, reach for the purse and the snack machine.

What can people recommend as a low cal snack which is also tasty? Or do I have to accept that food is fuel not an emotional treat?

Protein thought the day will keep you fuller. Apple will just give you a quick sugar high and low
Try yoghurt? Those new Danone fruit layer high protein ones are nice, or handful of nuts or piece of ham/chicken

Not ideal but a curly wurly is only 100cals!

something2say · 29/05/2013 20:13

Emuz I might try those....went thro a yoghurt phase recently...think I need to buy more food like protein.....snacks are rubbish really aren't they.

Trying to give up sugar so mustn't risk the curly wurley!!!

Cheers x

I really disagree that eating low fat will help you lose weight. You'll just crave food as our bodies need fat.

If i'm snacking healthily and v hungry I snack on nuts, a boiled egg, seeds, cheese- and often fruit (am a size 10). Or often oatcakes and humous , full fat yoghurt, biscuits, homemade cake...

Do you eat low fat all the time? I think you should make sure your food is 'nutritious' eg salmon and homemade chips in olive oil and veg so that you don't get cravings (or maybe you don't.but I'm always mystified by the low fat thing as even thinking about it makes me feel hungry)

Popcorn! I have an air popcorn machine thingy and bung on some curry powder or similar and it's yum.

Forget low fat - slim people don't eat low fat foods. You need something that's going to satisfy you and not give you a sugar high followed by a crash later on.

Up your protein intake at lunchtime and if you feel you need to snack in the afternoon try something like Peanut butter and half a sliced banana on oatcakes or wholemeal bread/toast.

ChippingInWiredOnCoffee · 29/05/2013 22:14

Well, if you low carb, you will have more energy and you can eat when you need to - win/win :)

Agree low fat is not the way to go. A good low calorie filling and healthy snack that I like is two Rude Health brand oat cakes (there are just oat and spelt and nothing else) with a tbsp of no sugar pure peanut butter (Meridian brand is good) spread between them. It's about 120 calories, filling, and delicious.

Ok lovely cheers....have been upping the protein already....did chicken last night and it did help....will be researching some of the threads on here about low carbs.....luckily my partner is brilliant at all this so he will help me. Sadly the scales tonight said I am nine four now!!!!! What!!! Aaaaaahh.

When it's my time of the month, I now reach for natural yoghurt with toasted pumpkin seeds and a bit of Xylitol sprinkled on top, or natural yoghurt and Eat Natural gluten free granola. Sometimes I have Alpro hazelnut milk instead of the yoghurt.

Having done ww for all of my life, I can say that low carbing is the way to go!! SmileSmileSmileSmile

Eat fat and protein and low carb veggies and you will lose weight!

Snacking at 4pm, eating whole packets of biscuits, was my downfall.

I now do not binge at 4pm.

Go low carb!!!, SmileSmileSmileSmileSmile

bettycocker · 31/05/2013 22:00

Definitely low carb is the way to go, but don't be afraid of including some low GI carbs such as bean and pulses or even sweet potato and gluten free cereal. It can mean the difference between a full on binge and a little wobble.
