Welcome to thread 12 of the Paul McKenna's I Can Make You Thin weight loss system.

The Golden Rules that will aid you on your journey with our like minded support system are:

1. Eat what you WANT
2. Eat when you are HUNGRY
3. Eat CONSCIOUSLY
4. STOP eating when you are satisfied and full

This weight loss system is about re-educating your body; learning to listen to it and in doing so losing weight and inches. After all, eating a meal is not a competition, it's about enjoying what you are putting in your mouth, but not feeling bloated and uncomfortable (or guilty) afterwards!
Many people have issues around food. Many of us have been brought up by the 'clear your plate' parents of yesteryear which leave us feeling guilty if we leave even the smallest morsel of food, but we are working through this guilt or any other hang up we may have, and we are learning to leave a bit on the plate; return to it another time if we really want to or even feed it to the dog or the bin!
So!! forget diets; they may work for a while, but they aren't permanent solutions. This is a new way of living for your brand new life!! Let's get lighter for those summer clothes!

The Paul McKenna system really works and is easy to maintain.

I've C&P'd our previous threads links as they are helpful.

Here are the book choices on AMAZON which is all you need to get started! they aren't compulsory, but they do help! it's something to refer to and listening to the cd's can really focus you.

This is the tapping technique EXPLAINED - this can be useful to combat cravings.

You don't have to buy the book and CD, but we have found that they do help and somehow they keep you on track, so it would probably be a good investment and will cost you far less than a couple of trips to WW or SW meetings, so do consider having them in your life.

Please feel free to join us, whether it's 10lbs or 10 stones you want to lose.
We are friendly, supportive and successful, but we're not hungry ~ NO we're not!!! so come on in and start living your new life today and make 2013 your year to drop a dress size or several...if we can get into a smaller size for summer, just think how we could look for next Christmas!

You're a good mix then! Though if it's a competition I'm half all english (probably my DM's family were vikings over 1000 years ago! They lived by the east coast) the other half is jewish with GD from Russia and GM from Lithuania!

NoGoodAtWittyNames · 16/07/2013 15:31

I'm in need of a kick up the bum. Following rules 1 and 2 perfectly (especially 1 Grin) but 3 and 4 have totally gone to pot. Has anyone got any inspirational stories of fantastic weight loss or how there's a box of uneaten chocolates in their cupboard that haven't been touched in 6 months because they just haven't fancied them??

Rulesgirl · 16/07/2013 16:19

Well......I have lots of chocolate , bumper packs of crisps, lots of yummy cheeses in my fridge and haagen daz ice cream in my freezer and it hardly gets touched. The chocolate drawer contains lots of big bars and I mean the massive ones , of galaxy, green and blacks , etc. I have just put loads of reduce cakes from Tesco on the bird table as they love them and we didn't eat many of them and they have gone stale. Im talking maple pecan Danish, boxes of doughnuts, berry muffins, Danish swirls. Birds are loving it and as they were very much reduced on Sunday, im happy too

Rulesgirl · 16/07/2013 16:24

Heres the thing. Mastering this woe is not so much about great weight loss its firstly learning to eat normally again. That can take at least 6 months before you can begin to really understand in your subconscious brain that food is not an issue anymore. People lose weight gradually not necessarily quickly, although that can happen too. Your still thinking in terms of quick fix though cause your asking for tales of fantastic weight loss to prove to yourself that it is worth continuing.
With regards to the rules if you really only eat when your truly needing food with actual physical hunger and then stopping when you don't need any more cause your body is satisfied then your on the right track. Smile

Hello,

Too hot. Much too hot.

We went to Goodwood on Saturday and if we hadn't paid so much for the tickets (and if DH and DS1 would have let me), I would have come home at about midday it was so hot. I ate about 5 inches of baguette sandwich and an ice lolly all day and still didn't feel hungry at teatime. I keep saying never again and then I have to go as it is DS1's birthday treat. He won't go without his mummy. Smile

Reminds me of 2003 when it felt like it was like this the entire summer and I was pregnant with DS2. It was not fun. Thankfully the weather broke a bit when he was a week old - it was September though. Just hope the temps don't peak at 100F again. That wasn't fun.

Have to agree this weather is an appetite killer although yesterday I managed to stay quite cool and it was like somebody turned on my appetite again and I kept eating on and off all day. Blush And there was I thinking I might lose a bit extra. Unfortunately, I have stalled again - I realised I hadn't been weighing myself regularly and I am in hiding from the scales. I manned up and weighed in this morning and thankfully due to the hot weather, it is just a stall and not a gain so I shall regroup and be more mindful today. Should be easy today as it is another scorcher and there is nowhere to hide!

MIL took Welsh GCSE when my PIL retired to N Wales, just so she would fit in. I am not sure she uses it a lot because the people she knows are either retired English or they know she is English and don't use it but she can use it if needs be. I think she still does a Welsh conversation class every week just so she doesn't forget it all.

Rules - your house sounds horrible. I'm so sorry - how do you cope with sea views, your own gym, half way up a mountain. It sounds a tough life. Wink Grin

Nogood - glad you had a good holiday.

BigBoobiedBertha · 16/07/2013 17:12

Wasn't Notgood who went on hols was it?

It was VeryBerry. Whoops.

Very - glad you had a good holiday.

I wrote that long post this morning. Builder rang the door bell just to be annoying (longish story v boring) and then I had to go out so I didn't re-read it or post it until just now.

I went to get my hair cut........ and hog the air con in any shop that had it blasting out. Smile

Rulesgirl · 16/07/2013 17:17

Yep BB very tough life lol! What was your haircut? Different or same.....(not that I would know the difference anyway).

KeepTheFaithBaby · 16/07/2013 17:42

Hot here too. Overlooked baby who is currently working on rolling over! Only been successful a couple of times but I guess now is the time I start needing eyes in the back of my head?!

Sounds like a nice day BBB. Make good use of air con!

BigBoobiedBertha · 16/07/2013 17:58

Same old haircut, Rules.

I keep meaning to change it but haven't found anything I like. I don't want it to be middle aged woman trying to hard to be trendy as that is just sad. But on the other hand, not trying to give at least a nod to being modern I could end up looking like my mum and that is not a good look!

I would like it cut off for a change actually (currently shoulder length) but keep thinking I want to leave it until I have lost a bit more weight. I will probably be grey by then, the rate I am going . Grin

Ah, well done on turning over Faithlet. Smile

She'll be crawling before you know it and then you need to be careful although now you won't be able to leave her unattended on anything without bars for fear of her falling off which they all seem to at some point, no matter how vigilant we are. Or was that just mine. Blush

Rulesgirl · 16/07/2013 21:09

BB You say your middle age so your still young so you can still be fashionable and have a haircut that is different. You really are as young as you feel not the number of birthdays that you have had.Smile

BigBoobiedBertha · 16/07/2013 22:18

Yeah I know that in theory.Smile Age is a bit of thing with me atm - it's that time of year, 2.5 weeks to my birthday and I will be 47. Shock Defo middle aged but it is just a state of mind, I know that. I still think I am about 30 (you couldn't pay me to be a teenager or in my early twenties again)

I just have a bit of a thing about middle aged women who have a certain type of hair style. All very new and modern but out of place with the rest of them. Like they are trying too hard to be up to date and not get old and just drawing attention to their age in the process. Besides, nobody under the age of 30 has short hair these days, so it seems. My problem entirely but I want to look younger without looking like I am trying too hard.

Rulesgirl · 16/07/2013 23:35

Well Im 52 and no one believes me. I am apparently late 30s early 40s. Good genes I think. I am blond ( have been for 20years now) green eyes, 5ft 9 and size 14 to 16 round the arse and big boobs. I think the key to looking young and feeling young is to smile all the time and laugh. I had a very short bob and am growing it longer now and loving it. Maybe we should put our pictures up so we could get to know each other better.....maybe......just a thought Smile . I have seen a pic of pp and she looks great but don't know how old she is even though she claims to be an old fart or not !! ha ha.

Rulesgirl · 16/07/2013 23:36

Mind you not sure how we could do it privately so that we don't out ourselves to others as we still want to keep our secret self on MN don't we. Maybe someone more techy than me would know.

ppeatfruit · 17/07/2013 08:36

Morning! BBB it's funny here when we first started coming over for hols (in the early 70s that dates me i'm 62 BTW Grin) the women ALL had those short unflattering haircuts, well they STILL have Shock and weirder is the fact that they are are fashion victims when it comes to clothes;they'll wear the fancy tiered skirts with anoraks and those cut off trews with very large arses!

I don't want to sound bitchy Grin and there ARE elegant women in Paris and the larger cities but like the food France has a reputation for being very classy which is IME not fully justified!!

Ref. haircuts one way of looking younger along with good genes, smiling and laughing a lot as rules mentioned (not too much though) is having an up to date hair cut but not slavishly so ( I did allow that 'pulled through a hedge backwards' style to pass me by Grin Grin). I'm going on too much Grin sorry I'll stop!

KeepTheFaithBaby · 17/07/2013 09:01

Can't really pass judgement - currently have my hair in bunches! Mine is a mid length bob. Getting it cut Friday, might have more layers added to make it a bit funkier!

I have a very hungry/thirsty baby! Many feeds overnight - co-slept for the most of it because it was easier. Not sure if its the heat or a growth spurt. Bless her.

I've been doing well with the exercise, walked for at least 30 minutes the last few days. Pushed the scales under a cupboard so I don't automatically weigh myself which helps.

ppeatfruit · 17/07/2013 09:31

Yes I love layers! Keepthe I've grown mine to nearly chin length at the front with an 'informal' longish fringe! and layers at the back to give it some height. I love my hair now after years of frizz its soo controllable. Something to do with hormones!

Rulesgirl · 17/07/2013 09:49

BB I bet you don't look anywhere near 47 and do not look middle age at all. You have the lovely pear shape feminine curves . I reckon you should go for something different and enjoy it. Might make you feel younger.Grin

Rulesgirl · 17/07/2013 10:11

Another gorgeous day......Faithy how old is Abbey now......it probably is a growth spurt. co sleeping is great when bf isn't it.

Rulesgirl · 17/07/2013 10:13

pp it's interesting what you say about French ladies. In Paris they seem so chic but do you know what, none of them ever raised a smile which made them all look very angry .

BigBoobiedBertha · 17/07/2013 12:06

I spent a fair bit of time with a French family as a teenager on exchange trips and I have always thought the 'chic' French thing was just a dodgy stereotype. I stayed in Normandy and I wouldn't have said that they were any chicer than the Brits. Other bits of France on hols haven't been much better although staying in Le Touquet was a bit different but that is supposed to be the playground of the Parisiens (sp?) Big cities tend to be where the shops and the money are so it is not surprising the chicest women are in Paris and the best of the Brits are probably in London. Having said that, I think the Brits are a bit more 'experimental' with fashion (is that the word) and the French are more classic so maybe they deserve their chic label more.

Definitely agree they can look very sour though.

Rules - you are being very kind but I definitely look overweight/fat. Curvy but still fat at the moment. Don't know if I look my age. I know I didn't use to but not being a good sleeper has probably aged me. Having a bit of face fat might help a bit - I do think there is a line I don't want to cross wrt to weight loss - when I was at my lightest (9.5st - I am 5' 7") I looked haggard so I am definitely not looking to be that light again. 10.5 st would do me. Healthy BMI but still enough fat to fill me out a tiny bit and keep the worst of the wrinkles at bay. My friends last week have convinced me of that, that and the necessity for suntan lotion and moisturiser. (I love 'em to bits and we had a great time catching up but I am still reeling about the weight loss and the excessive sun tan thing).

Ppeat, I know what you mean about the through the hedge backwards hair do - that is exactly the sort of very modern but strangely aging style I am talking about. I had short hair in the 70's and 80's though - it was the thing, wasn't it? Mine has never been very long - too fine.

I would share photos but I tend to be the picture taker, not the one in the pics. I would be hard pressed to find a decent pic of me! I will look.

Rulesgirl · 17/07/2013 12:13

BB you could take one your happy with on your phone.

Rulesgirl · 17/07/2013 12:15

pp why can't I see your pics anymore , come to think of it, I can't click on anyone's name anymore on mn.? Anyone know why?

ppeatfruit · 17/07/2013 13:15

rules I've tried to 'click' on my name too on here with no luck maybe its timing I don't know but if you go on the FB Paul Mckenna site (with the cake Grin) and find me (pm me for my name) Grin

BBB IKWYM about excessive tanning there's quite a few expats round here who look awful (I didn't recognise one woman she looked exactly like an Asian when I last saw her Shock) and about not wanting to get too thin (I really think that P.M. should 've called his WOE I Can Make you Slim) that's a much better look than THIN I don't want to look like an effing skeleton thanks Grin. Them women in Vogue look like freaks to me!!

BigBoobiedBertha · 17/07/2013 14:05

Rules - 'you could take one your happy with on your phone'

I'd need a time machine as well! Grin

DearPrudence · 17/07/2013 19:12

Hi, sorry to gatecrash an established thread, but this seemed the best place to go for some Paul McKenna advice.

I bought the HGB book and read it last week. I listened to the hypno CD last night, and I think I fell asleep. I did wake up at the end, but wasn't sure whether whether I'd just forgotten it, or had fallen asleep. So I listened to it again this morning - this time I couldn't get comfortable (I hurt my back a couple of days ago) and I don't think I relaxed enough.

Anyway, I have followed the rules today but I feel like it's willpower, not my unconscious mind, that's making me stop when full. And I have eaten more than a few mouthfuls of food before stopping. I'm feeling like it just hasn't worked - has anyone else had this, and then it's come good?
