Quick 5:2 question!

Very sorry for not posting on the proper thread, but need a quick answer and it's so fast moving I'm worried about it getting lost!

Today is my first fast day - I didn't eat from 5pm last night until 3:30pm today, when I caved and ate 300 cals (was feeling a bit rubbish). I was aiming to go to 5pm, eat my 500 cals and then no further eating till tomorrow, but I've just read in the book that 5pm - 5pm is a complete fast! Is this right? I've just eaten my other 200 cals. I was expecting the total fast period to be close to 40 hours in the end (so 500 cals that whole time), but it now seems I got that bit wrong and I can technically eat a bit more this evening now. Which is right? Can anyone enlighten me? I'm pretty hungry by the way!

You could do it that way but you won't have the same calorie deficit I guess.

That's what I figured. Just had 2 big cups of green tea and am waiting it out till tomorrow. Won't be fasting from 5pm the previous night for my next fast though! It will be 40 hours on 500 cals by the time I eat!
