Good luck with the race for Life, everyone who's doing it! I have a friend who runs - she just ran the London marathon. Don't think I could run to the end of the road - I'm not hideously unfit but just don't get on with running. But I faithfully do my Rosemary Conley workout videos at least 3 times a week but spend far too much time wondering why her hair never moves a millimetre, no matter what she's doing. Haven't lost anything this week - I'm always really disciplined until around 4 pm each day and then I just snack snack snack for the rest of the evening. Any tips on how to beat this habit gratefully received...

jambuttie · 09/05/2006 09:57

12 stone 3lb for me this week

HeavyBee · 09/05/2006 11:28

Good luck, Race for Life people, & stay motivated! Like VioletElizabeth I can't run to the end of the road, although I can walk and cycle ok. Possibly it would all be easier if I weighed a bit less.... Violet Elizabeth, if it's any help, DH finds he can resist late night cheese & biscuit snacks if he eats apples instead, for him it just means making sure they're always available.

Well, here nothing seems to shift the weight much. I'm 9 stone 6. This pound goes off and on, I need to get past this and start working downwards again.

Good luck, everyone, and keep going....

jambuttie · 09/05/2006 14:39

good luck for the race for life. My hubby has just done the Bupa great Edinburgh run 1st run ever and he is already talking about his next one

Smalline · 09/05/2006 19:53

I have been really really really good this week, lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, the warm weather has made me determined to lose the weight but how much have I lost this week, zilch, nada, not an ounceAngry.
VioletElizabeth I have the same problem myself, I do try and make sure that I have lots of fruit with me to snack on when I am at work, or if I am at home then I make a fruit salad and just pick on that all evening, also I make sure I carry a small box of raisins in my bag for my sweet tooth. Hope that helps.
HeavyBee I'm also having problem with that 1 pound going off and on, only difference is
I'm 2 and a half stone heavierBlush

busywizzy · 09/05/2006 20:44

Smalline, that could have been my post. I've been good foodwise (well goodish) all week, resisted all the Easter eggs we still have in our house and I've exercised loads. Been out running (2.5 miles) twice, trained for an hour on Saturday, bike riding, walking and STILL I can't loose that 1lb. I'm 10st and half a pound but I'm not declaring the loss until I'm 10st nothing and the way I'm going, that's going to be never Sad

VioletElizabeth, I try and keep busy in the evenings as I too find that a difficult time, particularly as I try and eat early with the children so I don't have heavy stodge in my tummy late at night. If I'm hungry I have a glass of water and I carry a box of raisins too in my handbag.

I'm reading a book I'm enjoying at the moment which takes my mind off food. Oh yes, and I'm running in the evenings but that doesn't seem to be making a jot of difference. Maybe I was born to be 10st 1lb Wink

Jambuttie, you just keep going and I'm very Envy Heavybee, fingers crossed your 1lb stays off this week Smile

Where's everyone else?

chickenrice · 09/05/2006 21:46

1lb off this week?Smile

The way I have gone about it is to eat smaller portions as I used to eat loads. I eat pretty much everything I did before. No special diet. I have also cut down on eating out/takeaways. I think my body is getting used to it but I am hungry late afternoon. Sometimes I succumb, sometimes I don't. When I do, I try my best to eat fruit instead of eating an extra meal. I find that when I have a good breakfast and lunch I am less likely to be hungry in the afternoons. Today is cake day so I had a slice of chocolate fudge cake and a piece of baklava. I said 'no' to some biscuits earlier on in the day so I don't feel too bad.

Good luck with the race for life!

dustanyone · 09/05/2006 21:51

1lb off for me too! Smile

SleepyJess · 11/05/2006 10:20

4 lb off me me this week! Shock Down to 10 stone 9 and a half pounds now :) Getting there.. Target is ten stone.

HeavyBee · 11/05/2006 15:53

Chickenrice, I'm sure you're right about the smaller portions. I managed perfectly well on a bowl of muesli a third the usual size, but it's been creeping back up again - I must use a spoon instead of just cheerfully upending the jar over my dish!

Those of you (ahem, not me) who are running and exercising a lot but not losing weight, bear in mind that muscle weighs more than podge, but you'll be in better shape and look better even though the weight may stay the same for a while. I weigh much more than I did twenty years ago, but that's partly because I carry dd2 on the bike and my short legs are big and muscly now instead of medium and squishy.

jambuttie · 12/05/2006 09:00

well done jess good result this week hun

VioletElizabeth · 12/05/2006 09:13

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions. I should get back to the smaller portions; ever since I got married the weight has crept on because my husband eats loads and is as thin as anything but of course I have got heavier and heavier! If I'm serving pasta now, he has a pasta bowl and I just have a cereal bowl which is enough to fill me up. I must get back into the fruit snacks; a friend at work keeps prunes in her desk which I thought would be horrid but they're lovely! I find grapes are great for snacks too. You're right about keeping busy, buzywizzy - my worst times are when I'm lounging in front of the tv. I'll try harder this week. Well done, all you who've lost some - keep it up!

busywizzy · 12/05/2006 13:43

Have just sent this week's chart. Really sorry it's so late but we've had real problems with our computer this week.

Back on track next week hopefully Smile

tortoise · 12/05/2006 21:19

Im really not doing well! Know im not gaining weight very often but dont know why! Im having really bad time with food! Last night i ate a whole 200g bar of whole nutBlush.Tonight ive had 2 choc ices and 2 mini rolls.Im not hungry but i dont resist.Cant even say i try!I just think ooh ive have x.Then afterwards i think why did i eat that!Only exercise i do is walking everywhere! I will never be slimmer at this rateSad

tortoise · 12/05/2006 21:21

i'll not ive!

busywizzy · 13/05/2006 19:54

Tortoise, Ive had a few spells where I've not been very good with what I've eaten but when I really think about it, I've not been bad, just normal really. I think everyone needs to have a treat sometimes but we've been doing this for quite a while now so little treats seem like big sins.

The way I look at it is that I'm eating more normally now and I want to eat treats every now and again. I'm therefore not loosing weight but I think if I ate less, once I started eating normally, the weight would just go back on (I hope that rambling makes sense) So I've increased the amount of exercise I'm doing in the hope that at some stage, that's going to make a difference.

Stick with it Tortoise, you've done fantastic so don't give up hope now Smile

Thanks for those words Heavybee, I hadn't thought about muscle weighing more than my flabby tummy and thighs. Not sure I have developed muscle yet but it made me feel better for a while Smile

Hope everyone is having a good weekend. I went cycling this morning (about 5 miles) with DS on the back and did my Race for Life training this afternoon. Our instructor had us practising sprint finishes (like that's going to happen after 5K) and after an hour of running like I haven't for years, every bit of me aches. Off to have a nice hot bubble bath rather than indulging in a bar of chocolate Smile

dreading this weeks weigh in

busywizzy · 14/05/2006 18:12

Jambuttie, know the feeling. I had a McD's today with DD and had rice pudding this evening. I'll have to run about 100 miles before Tuesday to shift those calories.

OP posts:
busywizzy · 15/05/2006 09:15

Oh dear Blush Went to bed last night and DH produced a family sized packet of minstrels as a treat for all the RFL training I've been doing. Such a sweet gesture that I felt obliged to help him eat them.

Tomorrows weigh-in is not going to be good Sad
