I think the key thing was that I really cut back on my alcohol. Obviously I had the two weeks of Boot Camp (except for a slight aberration on Burns Night
) but after that I only had a couple of small glasses of wine most weeks. Dh joining me on Boot Camp a few weeks later also helped, as of course he had to go through the full initial two weeks "no alcohol" of full Boot Camp, I joined him in that. Also, if he was tasting wine (he's studying to be a Master of Wine) and his study buddy had brought up a wine I didn't like, I chose not to drink it (previously I would just have drunk it 'cos it was there). Likewise, if it was one of dh's wines that I had tried before, I didn't feel such a strong need to have a large glass - a small glass would do, as I know I can have more later.
I seem to be one of the fortunate ones that is dairy tolerant, as if I feel the need to snack, I'll have a cheese triangle or a Babybel or a tiny sliver of parmesan or a wee portion of greek yoghurt. I've also cheated and continued to drink far too much tea (Darjeeling/Earl grey mix) with milk in it I have changed our milk to full fat.
We've had quite a few roast chickens in the past 10 weeks, which I do in the chicken brick and have lovely crispy skin. Amongst the three of us, we get at least three meals out of that: hot, cold, and then broth made from the stock from the bones and neeps (swede), leeks and a couple of carrots added - and all the rest of the chicken stripped from the bones that had been used to make the stock - plus the left over chicken jus that is produced in the chicken brick. That's usually our Wednesday night supper - and if there is any soup left over, possibly Thursday lunchtime.
Have been having loads of eggs, cream (have even snacked on clotted cream together with a few frozen raspberries
), butter, avocados (avocado, bacon and green salad with oily dressing is a favourite lunch). Frittata with parmesan and leeks is another favourite, either for lunch or a light supper.
I've also been doing the Jillian Daniel's 30 Day Shred or "Ripped in 30" 5 days a week (although had a nearly a fortnight "off" with a chest infection that wouldn't lift) - and always made sure to weigh myself after wards, and not drinking too much until I'd done so
I also tried to get a better sleep pattern (I'd been guilty of falling asleep on the couch and finally going through to bed at two or three in the morning well after midnight, much to dh's irritation). I now try to be in bed before midnight every night (up at 7.30, when dh has got the breakfast stuff ready - he's a morning person, I'm not
). I've also been trying to make sure to go out for a half hour walk every day (oops - didn't do that today
).
Breakfast is usually Lidl yoghurt with some cream and a few blueberries if I have some in the house (none at the moment) and some cinnamon. Alternatively, it might be boiled eggs or scrambled eggs with cream and maybe some bacon (if I can get up a wee bit earlier - I'm the better scrambled egg maker
).
Last night we had king prawns with sliced leeks, garlic and a wee bit of lemon juice then some cream cooked in with it and finished off with some yoghurt, served with buttery shredded savoy cabbage.
Tonight we're having pork belly and probably some buttery cauliflower (dh likes cauli as his "potato" substitute) and maybe broccoli or mashed neeps (with yet more butter)
I've noticed that the composting bin has been filling up much more quickly - which is indicative of more veg.
Also had ribeye steak with boursin and cream a couple of times (Lidl had some good offers on), served with shallots and buttery savoy cabbage (and in dh's case, buttery mushrooms ugh ).
In the early days, I also "snacked" on bags of pork scratching but haven't felt the need to do so so much any more. Maybe because I'm on Boot Camp Lite and can have a few nuts. I always have two brazil nuts after my exercises to boost my selenium.
I've not been perfect my any means: I make home made chicken nuggets (since Lidl stopped doing their nice frozen one) and the coating is half and half parmesan and (homemade from a whole loaf that no-one ate ) breadcrumbs. I've taken the pragmatic view that if I've been "good" the rest of the day, I'll be ok with what is probably only a tablespoon of breadcrumbs - and as it was homemade, it doesn't have the massive amount of sugar and he accelerated yeast process of shop-bought sliced bread.
Does that help carbalanche ?
And no, I'm not going to admit that today after my weigh in I've succumbed to a few too many pieces of tablet that I made for a MN meet-up yesterday. Oh no, not me
