Thanks pretty for the tip! Will look it out!

Made most of the Mughal Eid banquet from Nigella's Feast last night, adapted to be both low carb and vegetarian - thoroughly recommend the pheasant curry (which I did with tofu) - heavenly sauce with lime, green chillies, yoghurt, spinach and mint.

Also did the smitten kitchen Indian vegetable fritters which were really good (just didn't put flour and it was fine) - grated carrot,
Courgette, shredded leek, ginger, spices mixed with egg and fried. Will find link and post on recipe thread.

MaryBeardfanclub · 14/04/2013 20:54

prettybird read the coconut oil label carefully - I believe you need the virgin cold pressed sort, the other is cheaper and hydrogenated which is very bad indeed for health.

jake welcome back, I second everything our illustrious leader said - keep reading.

B: almond flour/egg/cheese pancake with bacon
L: nibbled kid's leftovers as not hungry (gammon)
D: Atkins fromage burger, hm coleslaw, salad, bit of dp's aubergine parmigiana

choos I am making notes of the indian fritters, sound amazing

spilttheteaagain · 14/04/2013 21:25

Looking forward to that fritter recipe choos!

ChoosandChipsandSealingWax · 14/04/2013 21:37

Recipe by popular demand! I used less eggs (only two but also a bit less veg) and no flour:

prettybird · 14/04/2013 22:04

I've gone away and done a wee bit of research and came across this

""KTC Coconut Oil is 100% pure, refined coconut oil. The oil is not hydrogenated in any way and hexane is not used in the refining process.",

...on this web page.

spilttheteaagain · 14/04/2013 22:08

Looks good, thanks, will try those this week!

prettybird I am a big fan of KTC brand. They are such good value. Our nearrest big asda has loads of their stuff in the ethnic aisle and it's much more affordable than the equiv tins/flours/spices elsewhere in the shop.

JakeBullet · 15/04/2013 07:17

Reporting in!

Coffee with cream for brekkie....well at least until I can face a proper breakfast.

AuntieMaggie · 15/04/2013 08:51

Morning :)

Day 1 ubercamping here - any tips?

BIWI · 15/04/2013 08:56

Don't forget the water, is what I'd say, AuntieMaggie! And remember that it doesn't mean that you have to go hungry. You can make the protein portions of the meals as big as you want.

HeirToTheIronThrone · 15/04/2013 09:15

Morning all! Feeling positive this week, managed a day out in Brighton on Saturday with all good LC choices, and yesterday turned down sandwiches and sausage rolls at lunch, and mashed potato at dinner with my B and SIL and their children, Did have a small portion of apple crumble, but consciously, it was lovely and I felt satisfied with it and didn't want more - a bit step for me! I will weigh tomorrow but I think I should have a good few lbs off...

HeirToTheIronThrone · 15/04/2013 09:16

Also, AuntieMaggie I'd say don't try and guess the weights of the ubercamp stuff - I worried I'd be hungry until I weighed out 80g of salad which turned out to be twice as much as I thought it was, an enormous plate of food!

BIWI · 15/04/2013 09:20

Oh yes, good point, Heir - on Ubercamp it is important that you weigh all your veg/salad - as it has been specifically carb-counted.

OP posts:
AuntieMaggie · 15/04/2013 09:26

Thank you :)

The only thing I have subbed is prawns instead of tuna as I can't eat it (I'm doing the plan with eggs!) and I couldn't get fennel.

Hoping this will really get me back in the zone as I had a carby day yesterday!

Ruprekt · 15/04/2013 09:48

Could someone repost the tartiflette recipe please or put it in the Low Carb recipe section?

TIA

I have been soooooo good whilst away visiting parents.

Ignored all alcohol and drank sparkling water.
Refused bread and pasta and dessert. Had cheese instead.

I did have some dark choc one eve which was fine.

Tried to defend LC eating and said that I had read up on it and was not doing it blindly. Father went off on one!! Hmm

Am ready for bootcamp again BIWI but this really is a WOE for life for me now.

BIWI · 15/04/2013 10:51

I thought I'd posted the tartiflette recipe in the recipe thread! Hang on ...

OP posts:
BIWI · 15/04/2013 10:53

I did! But here it is anyway:

Celeriac Tartiflette

Rough quantities:

500g celeriac, cut into small chunks, boiled in salted water till just tender (15-20 mins)
2 little packs smoked lardons (they are usually linked packs)
2-3 echalion shallots, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic
100ml white wine
sloosh of double cream
a bay leaf or two
25g butter
Reblochon cheese - around 200-250g - cut into dice

While the celeriac is cooking, fry the shallots, lardons, garlic and bayleaves in butter in a frying pan, till all are soft/tender. Add the white wine and the cream and continue to cook gently till all is reduced.

Once the celeriac is cooked, drain it, put it into a casserole dish, add the onion/bacon/wine/cream mixture, stir in and then add the Reblochon. Stir together and season with black pepper.

Bake in the oven with a lid on the dish for around 20 minutes at around 180-200, then take the lid off and continue to cook for another 20 minutes until golden brown on top.

Lovely served with a green salad with a garlicky vinaigrette dressing.

Ruprekt - why did your father go off on one? What was his argument against Low Carbing? And how did you defend it?

OP posts:
thenightsky · 15/04/2013 11:46

Ruprekt - I have the same issue with my sister, who is a holier-than-tho healthcare professional. She is obsessed with Benecol and low fat this and that. She is convinced my cholestrol will kill me very soon Hmm

Ruprekt · 15/04/2013 11:53

'How can you possibly miss out whole food groups? Tis disgraceful! Food is about enjoyment......not drinking wine.....tis a terrible thought.....' on and on and on.

I did tell him that being teetotal was not to do with LCing but personal to me but he blathered on and on.

I told him what I had learned about sugar and carbs and highs and lows in blood sugar but he is one of those who DOES NOT LISTEN, DRINKS TOO MUCH, is BELLIGERENT and thinks his opinion is the ONLY one that matters.

Can you tell I have ishoos with him?? Been there for 5 days and need a vent!!

I also read him an article that was v good (DM though!) about eggs and how cholesterol is actually good for us but he refused to listen.

He is about 6 stone overweight. Drinks and eats far too much and I will never speak to him about it again.

Thanks for recipe. Will cook it tonight.

WillieWaggledagger · 15/04/2013 12:27

v frustrating ruprekt, but honestly if he's that belligerent you're not going to change his mind so you might as well save your blood pressure and nod, smile, ignore (easier said than done)

i get pointed remarks from dp's mother (i don't talk about this WOE with her, or anyone actually, but she has noticed what i choose to eat), things like 'it's unhealthy to cut out a whole food group', 'the key is everything in moderation' etc etc. nod, smile, ignore

the responses to the above are of course 'i'm not cutting out a whole food group, just making choices about where those nutrients come from and in what proportions' and 'what exactly is your definition of moderation? i do eat carbs in moderation, just my idea of moderation is lower than yours, and i think no mars bar is always better than one mars bar'

but this is a woman who has a cup of tea with three biscuits at 6am before she has breakfast an hour later Hmm

BlackAffronted · 15/04/2013 12:50

Have been shopping & stocked up on LC stuff, so no excuses now! Yesterday was 100% LC, so think thats me back in the swing of it. Had an omlette & mushrooms for breakfast, prawn salad for lunch and think Ill have steak & coleslaw for dinner.

AuntieMaggie · 15/04/2013 15:48

I'm hungry :(

Really enjoyed today so far but now I am hungry :(

carbalanche · 15/04/2013 16:06

I am sooooooooooooooooo stupid. Had a lovely holiday. Ate like a pig. Came home. Continued to eat like a pig. Am now the same weight I was in Week 3!!!!!

Started back today (but that's what I said last week).

Have entered my weight gain on the spreadsheet just to shame myself into action.

12 stone 12 this morning. And to think I was hoping to be 11 stone something by the start of the next Bootcamp Blush

Smalline · 15/04/2013 16:38

Hi everybody, I hope you don't mind if I join you. (Waves to Prettybird). I decided last weekend that enough was enough, I was at my heaviest, and after reading through the Bootcamp threads and seeing the magnificent results, thought I'd give this a try. I have just completed the first week and have lost 5.5lbsGrin.

I thought the hardest thing would be giving up alcohol, but to be honest I haven't really missed it, I think I was drinking more out of habit than anything else. I absolutely love this WOE and have tried things that I've never tried before i.e. celeriac mash, and have loved every mouthfulGrin.

I am going to join the next Bootcamp when it starts, hopefully there will be even less of me by then. Anyway thanks for listening.

Oh and BIWI and all you lovely people, these are for you Thanks

prettybird · 15/04/2013 17:14

Hi Smalline - nice to see you here! Thanks

It really does work and I'm sure you will see results. I've stayed steady(ish) since the end of the first Boot Camp (but had Easter and a birthday in between) - but I see that as consolidating my initial loss Wink

I'm back on the wagon now and trying to lose my final stone. I find the key thing for me is remembering to drink enough water. It really does make a difference.
