Welcome Small :)

Bought a juilienne peeler, and made yummy courgette spaghetti with it, so easy. Really tasty fried in butter then tossed in garlic, cream & parmesan. Had it with my steak instead of the coleslaw I had planned.

MsRinky · 15/04/2013 20:07

Hello all. Aubergine curry with paneer and mint fritters for dinner tonight, lovely. Still very busy and too much social stuff on to be losing, but I'm doing ok maintaining until next bootcamp starts.

Ruprekt · 15/04/2013 20:43

Recipe please Mrs Rinky for curry and fritters.

B sausages, egg and mushrooms

L 3 slices smoked cheese

D. An amazing Waitrose bargain.....£1 joint pulled pork instead of £5!!!!Smile Roasted it for 3 hours and it fell apart. Ate it with cauliflower cheese.

Peppermint tea

ChippingInLovesSpring · 15/04/2013 21:35

Rup I swear it would be cheaper to employ you to shop for me than to go shopping myself... how do you do it?

Down 1kg/2lb this week. Finally. Scales had been stuck for a month!! Still unimpressed with current weight loss given how sodding good I'm being!!

BIWI · 15/04/2013 21:37

AuntieMaggie - if you're hungry, then you must eat!

What have you had today?

How much fat have you had?

How much water have you drunk?

Wild love totry low carb, but am ConfusedConfused as I basically eat white carbs as a staple! Advice and ideas welcome please

Ruprekt · 15/04/2013 21:49

SmileSmileSmileLol Chipping!

I do lots of shopping for friends with my cheapo deals. Smile

MaryBeardfanclub · 15/04/2013 21:59

prettybird oh yes, ktc coconut oil is as good as the uber expensive stuff - apparently it's refined which makes it cheaper but just as healthy. I will get some for cooking, if I ever get my car fixed and can get to a shop.

B: goats cheese, cumin and cauliflower frittata (on recipe thread, dp liked it)
L: 1.5 fromage burgers, aubergine parmigiana, celeriac fondant
D: some cheese, a few hazlenuts

I am working tonight, report to finish so no time to cook. (time to mn though you will note!)

I have been so hungry or something today, it was horrible - have awful period pains, I've been bfing ds2 so no periods since Nov 2010. I think they are returning, I do not feel on an even keel anymore and I do not like it. I feel a bit stodgy in fact, yuk.

Ilisten2theradio · 15/04/2013 22:10

I have been away too, and also eaten lots of everything that I shouldn't and red wine too.
then we went to an 80th birthday meal where there was a set menu to choose from - very nice but definitely not low carb - although I tried to minimise the damage before the birthday cake (no flour - but sugar and alcohol though). Ahh well. All things considered an additional 1.5lb for the amount i ate last week is very little damage really.
So this morning it is back to eating "properly" again and to get rid of the extra from last week.

AuntieMaggie · 15/04/2013 22:32

BIWI I got really hungry between lunch and dinner doing the ubercamp - mushroom omlette for bfast, whole pack of prawns with mayo gem lettuce and cucumber for lunch etc... 4 litres of water by dinner time (i've been weeing all day!) butter in omlette and mayo with prawns.

Enjoyed dinner of chicken thighs cooked in butter- never cooked them like that before but it was lovely.

Roughly how much of an avocado is 100g?

prettybird · 15/04/2013 23:07

Dh has rejoined me on Boot Camp.

Lovely meal tonight of lamb steaks (fried in a wee bit of coconut oil and finished off with some Marsala) served with cumin roasted cauliflower and creamy leeks.

Lunch was cheese and spring onion omelettes and breakfast Lidl yoghurt with cream (and in my case cinnamon and blueberries).

Been good and had plenty of water, which has meant that my only snacking has been 2 brazil nuts and a babybel.

As dh and his Master of Wine study buddy were doing a blind tasting, we had to chose to finish off the wines with our meal conveniently forgetting that I both chose the wines and wrote the question and knew what I was cooking for supper, so could ensure a good match Wink

BlackAffronted · 16/04/2013 07:59

Rusmum, there is loads of info in the link on page one of this thread, plus read through this and other Bootcamp threads for lots of ideas:) There are 10 rules of Bootcamp, so easy peasy to do!

WillieWaggledagger · 16/04/2013 08:07

welcome rusmum!

i would start by having a read of the info BIWI has put together here, here and here.

once you've got your head round the principles of low carbing it's easier to understand the food choices you should be making.

do you have any goals in mind through low carbing - weight loss? general health? what does your diet look like at the moment?

from 29th April we will be doing two weeks of low carb bootcamp, using the bootcamp rules which can be found in the spreadsheet here (look for the tab at the bottom 'Bootcamp Rules'). you can join us then, or start earlier, whichever you prefer

and there are tons of us here to answer any questions you might have!

BIWI · 16/04/2013 08:14

Welcome, rusmum! As Willie has said, the next Bootcamp is starting on 29 April. In the meantime, I really recommend that you read up on it (using the stuff that she has linked to on the spreadsheet) and get yourself prepared for low carbing. The key to success, IMHO, is preparation and planning. Make sure that you have plenty of low carb foods to hand, and plan your meals. This is especially important if you're on the go and away from home - make sure you know what you're going to eat and where you can buy low carb options.

The other thing to warn you about is the carb flu. If you're a complete carboholic, you are likely to feel pretty shit in the first 2-3 days, whilst you 'withdraw' from the carbs. Drink plenty of water and keep your sodium, potassium and magnesium levels up by eating salt (or drinking a hot drink made from Marmite/Bovril), spinach, avocado and salmon. It will pass and you will feel much better in a short time.

AuntieMaggie I've just weight a small-ish avocado that I have in my fruit bowl, and it weighed 124g - so I'm guessing that once the peel/stone has been removed, that will probably be around 100g.

Hopefully on day 2 you will be less hungry. It's also, from memory, a slightly higher carb day. But if you are hungry, eat something. A hard boiled egg, or some prawns (if you have any left!) or a piece of ham, etc.

A really interesting piece here, which covers the basics

You may already know some of this, but there's some interesting stuff you may not know as well.

Well it just goes to show - one week completely back on the wagon except for a small apple crumble detour on Sunday and I am almost 6lbs down! So, back to having lost a stone, and determined that it shall never be seen again. Just had raspberries and cream for breakfast which feels like a big treat.

halfthesize · 16/04/2013 11:17

Thats a really good site BIWI

So I am back on track today and have just completed my day 15 run, its still really hard though.

Well done Heir on the loss. Welcome rusmum and small

AuntieMaggie · 16/04/2013 11:47

I thought there was no snacking on the ubercamp :( will eat if I'm hungry today!

NigellasGuest · 16/04/2013 11:55

I'm starting over - AGAIN.
last week I had DH's birthday, and DCs still at home. Even yesterday they were here, due to inset day. Plus, family gathering on Sunday involving the usual carb-fest. So I am still feeling very very fat and yukky.

However, today is my fresh start. DCs back at school, no birthdays or family days in the foreseeable future, so I can hopefully keep myself on track. Starting with lots of water!

BIWI · 16/04/2013 12:09

Well no, there shouldn't be, but if you are really hungry then eating some protein isn't a great crime! The idea behind it - apart from being super strict - was to try and break the habit of snacking and to make sure that you eat enough at mealtimes. If, for example, your omelette wasn't filling enough, make it with 3 eggs instead of 2; cook yourself 3 chicken thighs instead of 2, etc.

Ruprekt · 16/04/2013 15:27

AuntieMaggie · 16/04/2013 15:37

Right I've got another week away working in Peterborough coming up so anyone from round that way can recommend where I can eat low carb in the evenings so I don't live on steak?
