Cabbage w cheese sounds yum!

I have made pancakes the last couple of mornings which are delicious. Mix a tablespoon of ground seeds with an egg and a little water and fry in butter. Makes 2. I serve with a dash of double cream, and this morning I had a few blueberries but would also be nice with some fried mushrooms and grated cheese.

intravenouscoffee · 06/04/2013 06:48

Morning all. Off to work after a breakfast of scrambled eggs and spinach. Have packed a tuna salad with blue cheese dressing so I won't be tempted by the canteen stodge. Just hoping I can avoid the biscuits and chocolate that will be everywhere!

Still drinking the water. Have a good day!

BlackAffronted · 06/04/2013 08:53

Argh, have struggled all week to get back on the LC wagon :( Have planned all my meals today to make sure I stick to it. Its my sons bday, so we have a big superhero party this afternoon. I am so excited for him, Batman & Robin are coming Grin

Bab - lots of cold gammon & mayo, eggs
L - fennel & spring onion soup
D - Oxtail stew

HumphreyCobbler · 06/04/2013 10:22

hello there. I am really wanting to get back on the low carb wagon after enduring horrible morning sickness for the last two months and only being able to eat bread and drink squash (bugger - I was THIN when I started thanks to low carbing). I am delighted to get to three months and the sickness is starting to abate a little, so am planning to get on with cutting out bread and refined sugar as a start. Obviously I am not planning to go into ketosis but my aim is to eat as low carby as possible, with the addition of the odd carrot/apple/lentil.

Are you going to start a new bootcamp? Or will there be a general chat thread. This WOE has changed my life and I am desperate to get back to it.

BIWI · 06/04/2013 10:27

Humph! I didn't know you upduffed! Many congratulations. Glad the sickness is abating.

The next Bootcamp will start on 29 April. In the meantime, we will keep this general chat thread going.

thanks BIWI - I don't think I believed it would happen until I saw the positive scan Smile

Have managed a no sugar, no bread morning. Hooray.

sybilfaulty · 06/04/2013 10:54

Humph, many congratulations, what lovely news! I thought you were planning to try but didn't realise it had happened. When are you due? I remember MS as being horrid, and barely abated even with copious carbs. Hope you feel better soon.

Am still a sugary twat. Back to work on Monday though so that will make a difference (I hope).

HumphreyCobbler · 06/04/2013 11:04

I am due oct 14th. So excited. But determined not to gain three stone like I did last time. I had horrendous water retention too and feel sure that healthy low carb type eating will help with that.

MrsHerculePoirot · 06/04/2013 11:04

humph HURRAH congratulations! You prob don't remember but you joining and your reasons for weight gain were similar to mine at the time and you gave me the confidence to join in. This fantastic news is also giving me hope too!!

HumphreyCobbler · 06/04/2013 11:07

I certainly do remember MrsHP. It is amazing how helpful both this WOE and these lovely threads are, isn't it?

Yama · 06/04/2013 12:32

BIWI · 06/04/2013 22:06

I made tartiflette this evening, using celeriac rather than potato. It was lovely!

Rough quantities:

500g celeriac, cut into small chunks, boiled in salted water till just tender (15-20 mins)
2 little packs smoked lardons (they are usually linked packs)
1 onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic
100ml white wine
sloosh of double cream
a bay leaf or two
25g butter
Reblochon cheese - around 200-250g

While the celeriac is cooking, fry the onion, lardons, garlic and bayleaves in butter in a frying pan, till all are soft/tender. Add the white wine and the cream and continue to cook gently till all is reduced.

Once the celeriac is cooked, drain it, put it into a casserole dish, add the onion/bacon/wine/cream mixture, stir in and then add the Reblochon. Stir together and season with black pepper.

Bake in the oven with a lid on the dish for around 20 minutes at around 180-200, then take the lid off and continue to cook for another 20 minutes until golden brown on top.

Lovely served with a green salad with a garlicky vinaigrette dressing.

The Reblochon should be diced, by the way

sounds delicious BIWI. I am on the hunt for recipes suitable for dp who has agreed to go mostly LC - he has not done much reading about it although I bought him Waist Disposal by Dr Briffa so he is not as clued up as you need to be - but it's a start. Our holiday is in 11 weeks - he has between 1/2 and 1 stone to lose but mostly I want him to do it so his cholesterol reduces and I would love him to be able to come off his blood pressure meds.

ds1 has chickenpox. Was awake all night - I had a good sleep in the spare room so I am on the daytime shift.

hope all have a lovely LC Sunday Smile

MaryBeardfanclub · 07/04/2013 07:51

oh, and congrats Humph, that is wonderful news, I am excited for you. Smile

thenightsky · 07/04/2013 11:07

BIWI - do you leave the rind on the Reblochon? It sounds delicious, but as I don't eat bacon I need to think of an alternative ingredient.

BIWI · 07/04/2013 11:37

Yes, the rind stays on the cheese. It all melts into the dish.

Not sure what it would be like without the lardons, to be honest - that's partly what gives it its flavour.

Bessie123 · 07/04/2013 11:54

You could use Quorn bacon?

Ruprekt · 07/04/2013 12:05

BAB Bacon, 2 eggs, fried courgette and mushrooms

Need to drink lots of water today as i made the choice!! to have some chocolates today. Very yummy too. SmileSmile

Bessie123 · 07/04/2013 12:39

I had a huuuge breakfast of low carb pancakes. I made 1 batch with 2 eggs and some cream cheese and divided it in half. Put a bit of cheddar and some chives in one half, cinnamon and a titchy bit of sweetener in the other (maybe half a sachet equivalent). I had the cheesy pancakes with smoked salmon and creme fraiche, the sweet ones with a bit of cream and 2 cut up strawberries. Pics on food porn if I can find the thread again...

BerylStreep · 07/04/2013 20:39

Can anyone offer any cauliflower related alternatives to mashed cauli?

MrsHerculePoirot · 07/04/2013 20:46

Roasted cauliflower? Cauliflower cheese?

Emilythornesbff · 07/04/2013 20:50

I saw on another thread a cauliflower idea: grate raw cauliflower (in processor on large grater blade) and pan fry as an alternative to rice.

Is that any good?
