So here it is - come and weigh in for the last time and tell us how much you've lost in Bootcamp.

The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness is here

Hmm, up 0.6lbs for me, but given the amount of booze, crumble and an errant Yorkshire pud at the weekend I will accept that gladly!

prettybird · 26/03/2013 11:14

STS this week - which is actually not too bad considering my tablet lapse last week Blush and is better than it would have been if I had weighed in yesterday Wink

My dad is back from his long holiday, so we had supper at his place on Sunday - shepherd's pie with a side salad with balsamic dressing, followed by home-made (very good!) tarte tatin served with low-fat yoghurt Hmm. No escaping the carbs! Grin

Still got 2lbs to go by 6 April to reach my target of breaking th 11 stone barrier by my birthday....

AuntieMaggie · 26/03/2013 19:01

I'm trying not to cry... On day 2 of strict bootcamp and DP has made me a lovely dinner trying to be supportive but I'm off food :-(

The thought of eating anything makes me feel sick. Last night I only managed my steak and tonight it looks like I'm only going to manage the homemade burger.

Please tell me it will get better...

KKKKaty · 26/03/2013 19:09

OK, I've decided that this WOE is not for me - I find it too restrictive, unfortunately. I don't miss the rice, potatoes, bread or pasta, but I do miss the odd chocolate, glass of wine and especially fruit. My plan is to go lowish carb and do the fast diet as well. My question is this. How do I go back?! I fell off the wagon on Saturday night (threetwo glasses of wine, a bag of hula hoops) and spent Sunday morning on the loo (tmi, I know). Do I just do it gradually, an apple here, a chocolate there, a big helping of carrots with dinner...?

MrsHeggulePoirot · 26/03/2013 19:09

Oh mags promise it will get better lovely. You know it does, you know it works, just eat a little and see how you go. It always takes about a week for it all to settle and to get back into the swing if things. If you're not hungry save some for breakfast or lunch tomorrow perhaps?

ChippingInIsEggceptional · 26/03/2013 19:14

AuntieMaggie - do you think it might be something else? Everyone else I know is hungry, craving carbs for the first couple of days - not off their food?

Hope you feel better soon!

ChippingInIsEggceptional · 26/03/2013 19:21

KKKKaty beatiful Katy, you're the only ggggirl I adore... :)

Sorry.

You find it too restrictive? That's a shame. Have you been having good results with it?

All the things you miss seem to be add-back-able once you have got to your target weight. Another friend is doing lowish-carbs & 5:2 though and is doing 'ok' - not as well as she was when lower low carbing though.

Have you read John Briffa? His book might help you decide how to balance things a bit better so you don't get tummy ache :(

prettybird · 26/03/2013 19:28

Kkkaty - after the first two weeks, you can have the odd glass of wine and piece of chocolate. You can even have some raspberries/strawberries/blueberries (I enjoy a few with some clotted cream for "dessert" or with yoghurt and cream for breakfast, together with a wee bit of cinnamon).

And as someone else says (sorry, on iPod so can't refer back), they're also things you can add back in once you're on Maintenance.

AuntieMaggie · 26/03/2013 19:41

I had this before when starting the new year bootcamp but not as bad - going off food especially strong flavoured food and just wanting bland food. I've been doing bootcamp light on and off since (due to illness and crappy work schedule) but started proper bootcamp yesterday.

The only carb I really have eaten when off the wagon is potatoes/chips though a lot less of them than before.

I normally really like salad and veg but I can't stand the thought of eating them. I've also gone off eggs, chicken, bacon (too salty).

I think its the metformin tbh as my sister gets this when she takes it but I only seem to suffer in the first couple of weeks of this woe.

I'll stick with it but may have to go buy some protein shakes.

BecauseImWorthIt · 26/03/2013 19:46

KKKKaty - if it makes you feel better, in the year I've been low carbing, I have continued to drink alcohol at the weekend. I suppose I do a sort of hybrid Bootcamp/Bootcamp Light - stricter during the week and more relaxed at the weekend. That way I have never felt deprived. And certainly never feel that this is a restrictive way of eating - especially not compared with a low calorie/low fat diet!

If you're finding Bootcamp too restrictive, move on to Bootcamp Light, and then you can have a bit of fruit and the odd piece of chocolate.

timidviper · 26/03/2013 19:48

AuntieMaggie Metformin is notorious for upsetting tums. There used to be a joke in medical circles that the advice to give patients starting on it should include "Never stand with your back to an open fire" due to its wind inducing properties!

I sometimes feel, not exactly nauseous, but a bit off my food. It passes quite quickly though.

AuntieMaggie · 26/03/2013 19:53

Thanks timid.

Funnily enough though I find it upsets my tummy in other ways less when I'm not eating carbs.

ChippingInIsEggceptional · 26/03/2013 20:03

Ah - metformin... now it makes sense. Sorry - it sounds horrible :( Have you had your levels checked recently? Do you self check? I'm wondering if taking the metformin and low carbing is making your levels too low?

MrsHeggulePoirot · 26/03/2013 20:09

chipping I think the metformin that auntiemaggie takes is not for diabetes but for other reasons if I reall correctly. I also take metformin regularly but haven't experienced not wanting to eat but know it affects people differently. I sometimes find when I have 't drunk enough water on this WOE that I don't fancy anything much, or only crave things I shouldn't eat... Interestingly I also find it affects me less when on this WOE. Do you think it is the thought of beig strict is putting you off a bit? I sometimes get that feeling early on...

halfthesize · 26/03/2013 21:24

Eve All, just caught up on thread.
Well done Jake on weigh loss. mary pleased to hear sleep training going ok, sleep deprivation is the most horrendous thing ever!

I am starting a fresh tomorrow morning and will be incorporating some IF. Need to my arse in gear now after being not great since ChristmasBlush

KKKKaty I have never given up wine throughout the low carbing which has been for a year now, I hope you decide to stick with it, this woe is the most amazing thing ever Smile

AuntieMaggie · 26/03/2013 21:31

Thanks Chipping :) but Mrs is right - I take it for PCOS not diabetes :)

My dose increased around xmas to 1500mg twice a day.

I'll make doubly sure I drink enough water tomorrow and see if that makes any difference.

I know this woe is amazing and I've felt the benefits in the past so I will stick with it.

MaryBeardfanclub · 26/03/2013 21:35

here is an example of the worst sort of reporting I have ever seen, it beggars belief.
low carb diet warning

utterly shoddy journalism, what is the actual point.

B: 2 soft boiled eggs with lashings of butter
L: vinegar chicken leftovers + swede with brown butter
D: pork tenderloin coated in egg and parmesan & fried in butter with buttered cabbage, creamed celeriac and cheesy fennel

I made that dinner for myself as I am alone (ds2 asleep at 6.30pm) - a year ago I would have had 2 weetabix with milk and called that a meal. Now I think, meat and 2 (or three) veg please.

KKKaty I eat chocolate now and again, and seem to have lost my taste for wine - but this really is a woe, not something to dip into now and again to reap the full benefits, however, maybe you are better suited to a gradual change to this woe, my dp is not doing lchf although i think he'd really benefit - BUT he has made some good changes moving towards it - cutting down drastically on sugar/choc/crisps/bread. He has lost 1/2 stone without really missing anything as he's done it so gradually over 2 months (of me nagging). Smile

KKKKaty · 26/03/2013 21:38

Chipping - you're the only one to ever get my name! Not that I'm implying I'm beautiful, just that it's a song my mum used to sing me! Someone once asked me whether it was anything to do with the Ku Klux Klan Hmm!

The results I've had are that I lost 3 1/2 or 4 pounds in the first 6 days, had my night of vino and crisps and I've put two of those back on again. It seems to me that with this diet, a day of going off piste is pretty catastrophic, which is not the way with, say, a low fat diet. It seems very all or nothing. Great if you can do it, not if you're me.

As I have said before, I'm searching for a sustainable WOE for me, and I've come to believe that this is not it. But I do believe that too many carbs esp white flour, pasta, aren't the way to go and I think I've learnt some lessons from my brief foray into this WOE - especially that you don't need carbs to make a meal. I am going to start working my family's diet towards more vegetables and meat and less pasta, cake etc.

ChippingInIsEggceptional · 26/03/2013 21:41

AuntyMaggie - sorry about that! That's a hell of a dose. Is it helping? I'll revert to the standard answer then - drink more water Grin. I hope you feel better/more like eating soon x

ChippingInIsEggceptional · 26/03/2013 21:48

KKKKaty - Kl Klux Klan - wtaf? I'm an old gimmer Grin

What you are doing sounds good :) I'd still suggest you read John Briffa's book (most libraries have it if you don't want to buy it, but it's really cheap on eBay). It's really interesting and he'll help you avoid some common pitfalls.

KKKKaty · 26/03/2013 21:53

Chipping, I have read Briffa, and it makes a lot of sense to me. But Briffa and Bootcamp are two different kettles of fish! Having read it I wouldn't go back to Weight Watchers or such like. I'm just in the process of working through a few options and ideas and trying to find something that will work long term for me.

Bessie123 · 26/03/2013 22:00

kkkkaty I think that in a couple of weeks, when your body is used to this woe, that won't happen any more. I ate half a box of chocolates the other day and didn't put any weight on

ChippingInIsEggceptional · 26/03/2013 22:37

KKKKaty - As I said, what you are doing sounds good :) I hope it works for you!

Bessie - you know she will hunt you down!
