Well done everyone.

That celeriac soup sounds lovely.

I had a bad day yesterday. Ate peanuts after swimming. Then more peanuts. Thn did not enjoy my lunch (belly pork with green beans) nor dinner (tuna mayo salad) so ate a big bar of 80% cocoa chocolate instead.

I should have had breakfast before going swimming, I think it would have avoided the spiral of despair.

timidviper · 25/03/2013 13:15

Well done Ewan that's amazing! I'm sure I'm not alone in feeling inspired by the success of those of you who are further along in your weight loss aims.

The celeriac is really meant to be served as a pureed vegetable but I think ours must be smaller than in the USA, as are most vegetables (she says 2 celeriac = 5lbs in weight where 2 large ones here were just over 3.5) so you can either scale the liquid down or have it as a soup. It is delicious, I promise you.

I have had some ham hock and scrambled eggs for breakfast in my attempts to get back on the wagon... So far, so good.

NoelHeadbands · 25/03/2013 13:31

Well done Ewan and Jake Thanks

teaandthorazine · 25/03/2013 13:47

Have just had a quick look at that Boots thread Shock

"Carbohydrates are an essential source of energy and are important to maintaining blood sugar levels. Even fats and sugars are essential for general body function and play an important role in keeping us going."

I don't even know where to start with this. Carbohydrates maintain blood glucose levels? Errrr, how about carbohydrates fuck up blood glucose levels?

And the lumping of 'fats and sugars' together, as if they're the same bloody thing. God, it makes me mad! Fats are utterly essential, sugars (which, fyi Matt, ARE CARBOHYDRATES) are not.

It's really, really poor 'advice', whether you ascribe to a LC WOE or not. I would've thought he'd at least know the difference between his macronutrients...

Sorry, as you were!

WillieWEggledEgger · 25/03/2013 14:50

i tried liquorice tea today, which despite saying zero carb on the packet frankly tasted suspiciously sweet to me

a bit of googling suggested that it is not good for those with high blood pressure (which i knew as I think mumat39 had done some research, and if anything my blood pressure is a bit low) and also that it might cause an insulin reaction. so i think i won't have it again, and I had to chuck it anyway as i just found it too sweet for me!

Bessie123 · 25/03/2013 14:57

willie it's definitely an acquired taste. I tried chewing liquorice root yesterday - disgusting.

Ruprekt · 25/03/2013 18:06

I was not keen on the liquorice tea today either. Bleurgh!!

Dh quite liked it.

NoelHeadbands · 25/03/2013 18:10

Same here for the liquorice tea!

Disgusting stuff, tastes like its crammed with artificial sweetener though I know it's not.

DH really likes it but is really suspicious that its low carb, being so sweet. He keeps studying the box in case there's any hidden ingredients anywhere

Yama · 25/03/2013 18:15

Peppermint and Liquorice tea is one of the most disgusting things I have ever tasted. £2.30 a box as well. And I absolutely loved liquorice.

JakeBullet · 25/03/2013 18:19

It's delicious...I love it Grin

ChippingInIsEggceptional · 25/03/2013 18:28

Ewan & Jake well done both of you :)

LittleFreida - well, I suppose you can look at it as a tough lesson well learnt :( and at least you have got straight back on the wagon :)

Timid - I'll give that a go with the celeriac. I haven't really 'made friends' with celeriac yet, it's ok mashed with great dollop of philly in it, but without, it's not for me and I'm trying to find things without cheese - soooo veg stock instead sounds worth a shot :)

Tea - I was spitting when I read that thread, so I backed out quietly. It's not that they are suggesting a different 'diet' - that I can cope with, it's (like you) the sheer ignorance displayed. I hope it doesn't go unchallenged, but I wasn't in the mood to do it without a large side order of sarcasm!

Willie - I thought about trying it today (I was in a cafe that do the TeaPigs range) but I just didn't like the sound of it, so I tried the red winter tea - boring, not much different to plain rooibos (which I don't care for). I shall continue in my quest for something different to drink.

Bessie - utterly vile stuff isn't it!! Bleurghhhhhhhh

Another smidge off for me this week - now 9kg/20lb down in 9 weeks. I have A Point To Make at the end of this month (to a not very nice Doubting Dora) and it would be uber lovely if I could make it (at least) 12kg, so if anyone has a spare couple of fingers they could cross, that would be fab :)

sybilfaulty · 25/03/2013 18:39

I hated the liquorice tea and I LOVE the real stuff. Can I recommend the clipper sleepy time tea, which is lovely and fruity, sweet but not overpowering. Very cheery if you need a sweet lift.

AM 2lb off. Very slow progress here but lots of things get in the way right now. Well done to all of you with some FANTASTIC losses

timidviper · 25/03/2013 18:50

I think I have confessed before that our local sweetie shop sells sugar-free salted liquorice or Salmiak which is gorgeous (in moderation of course!)

JakeBullet · 25/03/2013 18:57

Oh Gawd I now have a desire for some Liquorice Allsorts.....and it's all YOUR fault. Grin

middleagedspread · 25/03/2013 19:41

Hollandaise sauce tonight, with bacon & watercress.
I can't quite believe that I can eat this without putting on pounds.

This is what I'm finding so hard about low carbing; eating 'treat' foods & not feeling guilty.
Still missing bread though..

BlackAffronted · 25/03/2013 19:49

Had this for dinner tonight, and it was gorgeous! Had mine withgreen beans, the others had potatoes.

I love the liquorice & peppermint tea! It is quite sweet though. I have loads of teas though, some really yummy ones. Sipping on a cranberry green tea right now!

Just back from Zumba, and tired. Shower, book & bed for me I think!

JakeBullet · 25/03/2013 20:12

That looks delicious Black... Did you use flour in it or omit that bit? I have heard that cauliflower is a good thickener in place of flour when making sets and casseroles but not tested it out just yet.

NellVarnish · 25/03/2013 20:26

I've put FOUR POUNDS ON! ShockHmmShock

Took my eye off the ball quite a lot the last two weeks and bloody hell has it showed. I am a SUGARY TWAT!

Am scunnered.

However today after the weigh in I took myself in hand and have so far had:

B: none as in shock
L: 2 scrambled eggs in butter with a bit of chopped ham
S: 2 babybels and a spoonful of tuna
D: salmon and roasted broccoli in sesame oil

Lots of water.

Still want sugar though.

NellVarnish · 25/03/2013 20:27

Well done to everyone else though!

BlackAffronted · 25/03/2013 20:37

ooops jake, I forgot to mention I omitted tge flour! it didnt need anything to thicken it actually.

BlackAffronted · 25/03/2013 20:38

nell Sad I am Grin at scunnered though! hee hee.

you havent eaten much today?

QuickLookBusy · 25/03/2013 21:21

Well done everyone. Flowers

The stomach cramps I was having at the start of the week have stopped thank goodness. I've stayed off the bread and eaten things like nuts and lentils, so thank you to everyone who gave me that advice.

NellVarnish · 25/03/2013 21:48

I'm reverting to my roots Black - ah jist fancy a wee snicester noo and it's takin' a' mah willpower tae stay oot o the kitchen.

Is that really not much - I thought it was loads? Have been weeing for Scotland tho'.

Lavenderhoney · 26/03/2013 03:15

Well done Ewan that's amazing:)
I had some chocolate fondant. I made some, the dc left a bit so I dd something I haven't done since 7jan. I ate leftovers. Bit of upset tummy after:(

Dc a bit better and able to go and do stuff today. I have realised. Do spend quite a lot of time indoors cuddling sick children - all day sometimes and have only just realised that could possibly affect weight! Doh! So I will have to do a ( gulp) DVD or run before dh leaves for work on those days. Or put the tv on and hope it occupies them long enough.

I can't stand fruit teas. I would like to like them but I feel like I'm drinking a scented candle:) they are so sweet- dh bought me some black earl grey tea though, and some jasmine tea so I will give them a go. As soon as I have a teapot:)

MaryBeardfanclub · 26/03/2013 10:34

weirdly down 1 lb this am - maybe because I'm off work so not snacking all day - or could be the BABs - after my cheese and gammon 3 egg omelette yesterday I could not eat any lunch - for the 1st time in 42 years Shock

sleep training going ok - it's alot easier without ds1 and dp here (dp cannot listen to any crying hence we have not had a night's uninterrupted sleep for 4.5 years). ds2 likes to sleep late Smile

nell scunnered reminds me of my mum - she used it a lot, uses it less now after 30 odd years living in Surrey. My favs are oxters and boak.

lavenderH I'm not a fan of fruit teas either. I am in the midst of a nettle tea obsession - a taste of the hedgerow, I love it. For a fab afternoon pickme up - scalding hot green tea. I also love fennel, subtle, not fruity.
