Oven at 120 degrees Split.

You know, I used to think that I couldn't eat lamb as it gave me a sore stomach. Now I realise that it was what was being served with the lamb that hurt me.

JakeBullet · 24/03/2013 10:17

Car has flat tyre again Hmm . A bit suspicious tbh.....second one in a week!
Desire to binge is massive. ..frustration, anger etc. Going to make some Parmesan shortbread to keep me on tbe straight and narrow.
Drinking fizzy water and calming down....going to get stuck into housework in a bit.
Grrr....I hate frustrations.

BecauseImWoeufIt · 24/03/2013 10:22

Any idea why, Jake? Have you checked the ground for nails?

JakeBullet · 24/03/2013 10:40

Will do ss the one last week had a nail in it. Grrr.
Calm nowGrin

spilttheteaagain · 24/03/2013 10:51

I know BIWI, the recipes do need a little tweaking to make them properly low carb but I shall let people do that for themselves (CBA!). Will c&P them onto the recipe thread for safekeeping. MN is great when stuck in a food rut!

middleagedspread · 24/03/2013 13:21

Just to tell you I did the Spanish Chicken recipe last night, added some black olives with a side of pureed celeriac, was absolutely delicious. What a great find.

timidviper · 24/03/2013 14:13

I bought a Barefoot Contessa cookery book last week called "How Easy Was That?" and it looks to have some nice veg recipes in.

I'm not doing brilliantly atm, am feeling very nauseous which I'm not sure if it's left over from the tummy bug of last week or a side-effect of my TMJ problem which is giving me headache, faceache, etc. Whichever it is I am not wanting to eat sensible protein and veg so am finding it hard to eat properly.

WillieWEggledEgger · 24/03/2013 15:14

Interesting that doing 'fancy' things to veg is quite an everyday thing for low carbing people!

Sorry you've got this tmj pain viper. Is it chewing that's the major problem or is it more a problem of appetite?

Yama · 24/03/2013 17:55

Split - I made the Fish Pie (non creamy). I used turnip to top.

Dh and I loved it, dd picked out and ate the mackerel.

NoelHeadbands · 24/03/2013 18:13

I think it's quite funny how when you tell people you're low carbing they assume you eat tons of meat. I have never eaten as much, or as varied, vegetable dishes as I do now.

B- nowt
L - celery sticks with potted beef and butter
T - roast pork and crackling with sprouts and buttered cabbage, broccoli and a small spoon of roasted Jerusalem artichokes

spilttheteaagain · 24/03/2013 18:58

That's fab Yama. I might try it for a lunch with DD at somepoint this week. She is a smoked fish fiend. (I keep getting my hand slapped on threads in Food for saying my 19month old loves smoked fish - apparently it is too salty and bad for her Hmm I really do not think that the 2 tsps she eats as a helping is going to give her salt poisoning.... she gets no jar sauces, hardly any bread, no cereals other than straight oats in milk so very little salt sneaks in by default. And it's oily fish! That is brain food Grin). How old is your DD?

Mine has had a feast day, after famine yesterday. She has Not Stopped Eating all day. Inhaling cherry tomatoes Shock

Noel I get that too "oh a high protein diet?", Erm, no actually, normal protein, high fat. Then they look even more scared and start gasping about arteries etc Grin Likewise, the veg is so much more interesting now, it has to be, you've got the old carb "space" on the plate so have to think of something to put in it, and I don't know about you, but it's all been far more tasty than some boiled pasta or rice.

Ruprekt · 24/03/2013 19:37

B bacon, egg and spinach

L nothing

S. half an avocado

D. Lamb curry with sauteed cabbage, aloo saag with celeriac not potato. Very tasty. SmileSmile

Camomile and spiced apple tea

Yama · 24/03/2013 19:44

She's 7 Split and a smoked fish fiend too. She drinks loads of water though so the saltiness of the fish doesn't worry me.

Dh was brought up to at least taste whatever was put on his plate. He's encouraged dd to do the same so she's a great eater. Ds on the other hand is a long way off agreeing to such a deal (he's 2.7). I will be a very happy woman they day he eats smoked fish. Grin

MaryBeardfanclub · 24/03/2013 20:00

i am completely done in after a weekend of ds1 creating madness and noise round the whole house, we have both screamed at him til our throats hurt - last 2 weeks of him have been unbearable - dp looks fit to drop.

ds1 and dp have departed for a week at GPs - they are staying there each night this week whilst I sleep train ds2 (for the 6th time). Shock

what is wrong with smoked fish indeed? the kids had smoked mackerel tonight with cabbage & carrots and sauteed pots - ate the lot

I had vinegar chicken - reminds me of that mumsnetter of yore vinegartits.
it was quite tasty - from Leiths cookery bible, basically chicken fried in butter, lots of cream added Grin

jake i also find your posts so inspirational - so glad you are on this thread.

timid i love the barefoot contessa - her food looks like just what I want to eat

am off to tidy up before the night begins, wish me luck...

littlermissstan · 24/03/2013 21:38

Hi all, boozy night last night for me and succumbed to apple crumble at the pub having lunch with the family... But will be back on it tomorrow, despite my stepdad giving me a big lecture about how my cholesterol will be through the roof... Am off for an early bed!

spilttheteaagain · 24/03/2013 22:08

Sounds like you drew the short straw there Mary... good luck!

BecauseImWorthIt · 24/03/2013 22:17

We were invited out to lunch today. It was a really good example of the things that get thrown at you when you're trying to low carb.

Starter was prawn cocktail. Fab.

Main course - all plated up and served to us directly - roast beef, Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, parsnip puree and sugar snap peas, with red wine gravy.

Pudding - blackberry and rhubarb crumble with custard.

Lovely, and impossible to refuse.

In these circumstances, all you can possibly do is 'go with the flow' and enjoy it. It's life.

timidviper · 24/03/2013 22:59

You are right BIWI it is life but I have to make life take a back seat and get back on track tomorrow. I've had a whole week of being crap because my jaw hurt and I felt queazy so have eaten bread because it's soft and easy but I am going to start again tomorrow.

OMG the Barefoot Contessa celeriac was gorgeous. It was 2 large celeriac (about 5lb weight) peeled and diced, sweated in 2 tblsp butter for 10mins, add 250ml chicken stock and 250ml double cream, simmer for 20 mins then puree and season well.

BecauseImWorthIt · 24/03/2013 23:10

I know, timid. But sometimes you really can't do anything about it Sad

That celeriac soup sounds gorgeous.

EwanHoozami · 25/03/2013 09:00

I have finally shifted the last pound that means I HAVE LOST TWO STONE! Sorry for the yelling but I'm so chuffed. The first stone melted off like all the butter I was eating, the next half a stone was a bit of a chore but this last half stone has been a slog. Not helped by Christmas and the cold weather. But I've beaten it and weigh the same now as I did when I was 21 Shock

5'8", 10st 3lb and size 10-12. I actually feel a bit emotional writing that down Blush

I thought my target would be 10st but we'll see what my body does over the next month. I feel quite happy here, tbh.

Mary how did the sleep training go? any breakthroughs? Hope you're not too knackered. Must be lovely to have some one-on-one time with the little 'un.

BecauseImWorthIt · 25/03/2013 09:12
Flowers

Brilliant, Ewan!

carbalanche · 25/03/2013 09:32

Congratulations EwanHoozami that's a great weight for your height - I am aiming for that weight and I'm only 5ft4! The going really gets tough when you are trying to lose as "little" as half a stone. I'm in the fat melting away zone at the moment and know that this next period before the start of the next Bootcamp will be critical and more difficult than these first 10 weeks. Got a long way to go!

Am just about to pop this week's 4 pounds weightloss on the spreadsheet!

BIWI, do you think we should just keep this thread going rather than start another interim weekly thread before the next Bootcamp? Might be easier to keep a track of it - what does anyone else think?
