Hi all, hope you've had a lovely holiday weekend. Onwards and upwards. I've got back on course since Sunday thanks to you. I plan to:-
1 Listen to the cd. Not before sleep as I think I get more out of it if I listen fully conscious.
2 Drink more water
3 Drink less alcohol
4 Visualise myself at my target weight
I got on the scales yesterday and it wasn't quite the disaster I was expecting Smile
I had trouble getting on to the original PM thread all weekend.

Horse · 03/05/2006 09:55

Where is everyone? Are you still trying to post on the old thread? How are you doing? I am getting along much better than last week and have stuck to my four points that I should concentrate on below. Taitai, your walking is impressive. I am going to walk more often and take the stairs as much as I can. We are on the 5th floor so that should help me with the excercise.

mancmum · 03/05/2006 10:06

I am still here!! Sticking at it and doing well... just need to step up the exercise now but am feeling very positive and slimmer...

patkica · 03/05/2006 11:55

Here you all are. I couldn't post on the old thread either so started a new thread which you should ignore. TT: how do you do so much walking? That's brilliant. I'm trying to work out the best things to do at the gym. I just do the same old things all the time. Any ideas or websites you can recommend? Also, does anyone else find it really hard to listen to the CD these days? I find it so boring now, having heard it so many times. While it's on, my mind just wonders.

So glad to see Dinny and Mancmum again and happy that everyone is feeling motivated. This lovely weather helps. Decided not to weigh myself anymore as I'm too scared that I'll see no change or even a gain so I'll just see how I feel in my clothes instead. But my doctor said I should measure my waist so I did and I have lost three inches in 5 weeks. Hooray! Smile. Glad to have started again with you all on Sunday. We are all going to be lovely and slim by JUly. THat's my prediction.

TaiTai · 03/05/2006 18:06

Hello! I found you all, finally Grin Was just clicking on "threads I'm on" and it was bringing up the old PM thread; I couldn't understand why there was radio silence after we made a pact to start again... After the 72hrs expired for threads I'm on I went to threads by topic and found you.

Anyway, after that exciting tale, let's get down to business -

I do a lot of steps by doing lots of walking throughout the day with the pram; the odd ten minutes here and there really adds up, and I prefer to walk where I can rather than get the bus. But what has really helped is that I've started running three times a week to train for the Race For Life, so that gives me a big boost in steps.

My top tips for getting steps are (in no particular order):

  1. 10,000 steps equals approx 1 hr 40 mins per day. That seems a lot, but you'll be surprised at how much you tot up. If you live in a house, being forgetful and having to constantly run up and down stairs to find the things you've forgotton to take up/down with you is a great way of getting steps Smile. As is having an adventurous and disobedient toddler.
  1. In order to do at least 10k steps every day, you have to be organised. I think ahead, so if I know I'm not running or walking much on a particular day, I might plan to go to the supermarket then instead. Walking around that for an hour gets you a lot of steps.
  1. The obvious one - walk where you can instead of taking transport/driving.
  1. Another obvious one - do structured exercise.
  1. I find dancing around the lounge with your child a good one, but make sure the curtains are closed as otherwise you'll be raising a smirk from the neighbours as well as your step count.
  1. Stand up more - i.e. on the tube, etc. Seriously, I found that standing up for two hours during my recent singing classes meant a LOT of steps.

There are others, I can't think of them just now, but it is a case of every little helps. I do recommend a pedometer. Having said that, I've been doing at least 10k for ages and all it's done is maintained my weight. Humf.

Horse · 03/05/2006 21:12

Hi everyone, glad you found the new thread. Seems that we are all still on course. Taitai it is amazing how many steps you manage. I am going to start counting mine and putting more effort into this type of exercise. It all adds up.

I must admit that I have started to weigh myself more often. This is because if I visualise the amount of pounds I need to lose I find it easier for some reason. Maybe it is because my target weight isn't too far off.

dinny · 03/05/2006 23:20

hello, just a quickie - Taitai, how many miles is 10,000 steps? about 5? xxx

Has anyone seen or used the PM weight loss DVD? I've ordered it and am hoping it will give me extra motivation. Don't think I'll be going to his seminar after all.

TaiTai · 04/05/2006 11:13

Oh, why not, patkica? I thought you had a place already booked (and presumably paid for)?

patkica · 04/05/2006 12:41

I'm still in two minds about this. On the one hand, I think I'm doing fine without the seminar and it would be nice to get the money back. On the other, I'm curious and it can't hurt to go. But it is a lot of money to pay for curiosity. What do you think?

Horse · 04/05/2006 15:27

Patkica, I'm definitely going so if you decide not to go I will tell you all that happens. I want to deal with my unhealthy relationship with food (in the past now I hope but as you know I have lapses). I also wanted to be within sight of my target weight on the day of the seminar so that I get a little bit more motivation to get those last pounds off. I don't know about you girls but in past I have dieted successfully only to find that loosing those final pounds have been difficult. I also want to maintain the weight loss and not yo yo up and down. I only know of one other person who has done the seminar and she lost a stone and a half and has managed to keep it off over the last few years. I was also told that the seminar was not just about weight loss, it covers self esteem and many other aspects of life.

TaiTai · 04/05/2006 17:48

Funnily enough, I've just been sent an email from the PM website trying to entice me to book on the 13th May. This is naughty of them as I did register a while ago in order to find out the price of the seminar, but I specifically opted for NO emails. Hmm. I would be interested to know whether going to the seminar makes a big difference above and beyond doing the plan diligently on your own.

dinny · 04/05/2006 20:11

hello, just been for a 5-mile run and feel v good (knackered though)

my mad-cap plan is to do 6 x45 min runs pw to shift my lard fast.

hey, have just ordered the PM DVD mentioned (Patkica, thanks) have done express delivery so should get it Saturday (oooooh!)

OP posts:
TaiTai · 04/05/2006 20:25

Well done, Dinny! I'm trying to build up to 3 miles - am currently too lardy and unfit, with a gammy leg, to manage that much at the moment. My madcap plan is to run 3x a week (walk/run prog at the mo - building up to the 3 miles) and do Charlie Brooks DVD 3x week.

And yes, 10,000 steps equals 5 miles. x

dinny · 04/05/2006 20:27

thanks, Taitai - this hot weather has spurred me on - really want to be in bikini by July...

anyone see 10 Years Younger last night????

OP posts:
patkica · 05/05/2006 11:42

You're all so good with your walking and running. I hate running so use the gym instead. But on a nice day like today, a run would be a much better option. Horse, you're making me re-think the PM seminar. If it's self esteem and that kind of thing, it would be good for me. It might also help to really cement the book's messages. ALso, I've just found out that I can only get 50% back. A bit cheeky, I think.

patkica · 05/05/2006 11:43

p.s Didn't see 10 years younger, but did see the Body Clock thing the other night. IT worried me though: it just can't be good to lose that much weight so quickly. No one can keep that kind of thing up. That's why I like PM: no banned foods, just sensible eating.

Horse · 06/05/2006 07:51

I think that the selling tactics for the PM seminar are a bit aggressive. I was the one out of our group who initially enquired and so they had my details. When we decided to attend it was my girlfriend who registered us. Not realising I was in her group they have called me up trying to convince me that I should go. I told them I was already going but they wouldn't leave me alone until they had pinned my registration down.

This week I have been quite good. Yesterday was my bad day - I had five truffles after dinner. Chocolate and alcohol are my downfall.

TaiTai · 06/05/2006 11:45

I haven't been great. Finding it really hard to follow the plan. Tbh, I'm feeling a bit down at the moment and I think I've been eating emotionally. Well, not think, but know. I find listening to the CD tedious but I know I must and I really resist following the rules, feel almost resentful at changing my habits. But I'm so depressed about being overweight, I must do something about it.

Anyone want to give me a kick up the arse? Grin

PS: The PM selling tactics seem very aggressive. If they'd called me up I would have told them to eff off, I think.

Horse · 06/05/2006 20:36

Taitai, I know what you mean about the cd being tedious. I haven't listened to it for about three days and I find it hard just thinking of putting the earphones on. The emotional eating is hard to stop, I think we all do it to some extent. It is hard to stop once you start. Maybe instead of listening to the cd just read the book through again. It doesn't take too long and it may give you the lift you need.

Remember it is all about retraining the mind and not focussing on food. Also remember that it is alright to have relapses, don't feel down or guilty. Tomorrow is another day Smile

TaiTai · 07/05/2006 11:27

Thanks, Horse.

Starting again today. How many times have I said that now? Grin

Goood idea, I will look at the book again as I'm having thoughts about going back to WW as a last resort {shudder}.

I will make myself listen to the CD.

Patkica, if you're only going to get 50% of your money back then I would go to the seminar. It can only be a positive thing, right? I mean, you're not likely to come out feeling worse about yourself, I hope! And then you and Horse can come and report back to the rest of us, please. Smile

Horse · 07/05/2006 20:45

Taitai, I think Paktica said on the previous the previous PM thread that it also takes a bit of will power. This is so true. You have to really concentrate on the eating when hungry and stopping when full rules, especially the latter. I think that he also sort of contradicts this, at some point he says stop eating before you think you're full - I may be wrong. If you really concentrate on that then you will get results. Of course you mustn't starve yourself, eat when you need to but just eat enough iyswim. I know that it is a little wierd but by doing so you eat a lot less than you are used to and can manage.

I'm looking forward to Saturday and will definitely report back on anything he says, especially if it is anything different from the book.

Horse · 07/05/2006 20:47

Sorry Patkica not Paktica.

patkica · 08/05/2006 14:26

Hi everyone, feeling a bit crap as we are all dwon with some awful gastric flu thing. It's one way to lose weight I suppose, but pretty gross. I have you're feeling a bit better Horse and TT. It's ok to have bad days: he says so and a few chocltes aren't going to hurt. Remember that we are trying to learn to eat like natuarlly slim people. All the naturally slim people I know have a blow out now and then, but eat sensibly most of the time, so I'm sure that a few chocs or wine or whatever won't hurt. I refuse to give up my wine: I've cut down but not out because it would be stupid to pretend that I would be able to do this long term.
I'm fed up with the PM people too. Thye sent me a receipt for a completely fifferent people for over £3000 and refused to answer my emails about it. I had to track them down. No apologies of course when I finally got to the bottom of it. Still not sure about Saturday. I watched the DVD and it put me off a bit.

Horse · 10/05/2006 07:03

Where is everybody? I hope you are all well especially you and your family Patkica. I think that I am definitely programmed to this way of eating now. I am almost at my target weight, just a few pounds to go. This is where I wanted to be at this time as I am hoping the seminar on Saturday will give me the encouragement I need to maintain the weight loss. By the way has anyone read "French Women don't get Fat". I've only read about a quarter of it but it seems to have remarkable similarities to PM.
