Felt really dizzy during exercise

Been doing the same type of exercise for over a year (Zumba) at least once a week mostly twice. Yesterday I felt really dizzy and had to stop for a while before I felt well enough to carry on. Any suggestions how I can stop this happening again. It was all a bit embarrassing to be honest.

Do you feel lightheaded when it happens? Wondering if your blood pressure is low

twinkle1010 · 17/02/2013 12:18

yes really light headed and (tmi) really sweating.

I haven't but my sister has and I have been urging her to go to doctor but instead she has quit the class! Last 3 times she felt funny and on teh last one she vomited everywhere {sorry} Will watch this with interest as am worried for her and she is stubborn

I would get my BP checked. It might be an idea to inform the instructor before the class, too.

Make sure you are eating enough and keep hydrated throughout the day, and replace the salts lost in sweating. (Non-carbonated isotonic sports drinks are good for this)

Sounds like low blood sugar - do you usually snack/have a drink before exercise and maybe didn't this time?

BreadForMyBREADGUN · 17/02/2013 13:02

Yep, likely BP or low blood sugar. Are you dieting?

twinkle1010 · 17/02/2013 19:15

Thanks for all your replies.
Not dieting and I ate breakfast as usual (class was 11am) I drink absolutely loads of water I am always thirsty. I carry water with me in my bag and always have a glass nearby when Im at home.

When I went to the Drs about 3mths ago (To get a repeat prescription) she did my BP and said it was fine.

Really dont want it to put me of exercising, I was really embarrassed :(

What sort of thing do you eat for breakfast?

twinkle1010 · 17/02/2013 19:52

I usually eat toast or cereal at the weekend. During the week I leave for work early and usually just have fruit and yogurt. (Before the class Id eaten toast and had a cuppa.)
